Was thinking about this for my father in law. Then realised a Mac mini M4 with a big monitor could be had for less.
Also a super valid point! with the education discount you could even grab a 16gb 512gb m4 mini and a display of your choice with a reasonable budget
I just did this exact configuration for my Dad, great little system for around $1500 with a half decent 4K Dell monitor! Was looking at the iMac originally but worked out for now much more could get him the Mac mini and a new iPad
@NoVillage: Exactly what he is getting for Christmas. An M4 Mac mini, 16GB 512GB education store $1149 plus 4K dell SQ2722qc $399 total $1548. Probably a bit overpowered for him but still.
The screen might not be the same quality but size has its own merit.
Thought about external storage to reduce the price even more but that means more stuff to get disconnected and also file management. Anything to reduce user support, which is why I was thinking about the iMac.

I don’t get why Apple killed the 27” and sell these, I can’t imagine using a 24” screen in 2024.
Can you even use this as an external display like you used to?
Not a bad deal at all but the m4 imac with 16gb as minimum is 1999 at apple rn and 1842 with a student discount link that isn't checked. Not invalidating this deal just putting it here for anyone considering, m4 isn't as much worth the jump but 16gb may be for some.
