  • good deal for full service airline.. just keep in mind of guaranteed delays and last minute gate changes in Guangzhou airport so you may risk loosing any connecting flights

    • +2

By Chinese Law which they are abide to, they will have to reassign you onto any flights any carriers if they delay and you request. That could mean if the first leg is delayed, they could put you on an Emirates or Singapore Airlines or Even better Thai airways’s direct flight. If the second leg was delayed, rest assured there’re nearly 20 flights everyday from Guangzhou to Bangkok.

dont compare to Jetstar as this if full services with bags and meals.

    • +6

Direct flights to Bangkok on a full service airline are around $1100 from Sydney right now, $1200 from Melbourne right now, and $900 from Brisbane (on Jetstar—they're low cost but the only airline that flies direct to Bangkok, so add $100 each way for baggage, seat selection, entertainment and food). These are around half the price and add 4-5 hours - still a really good deal in my opinion!

  • How much longer does it take to go via China?

    • +1

      ChatGPT is your friend:

      MEL Comparison:
Direct flights are faster, taking around 9 to 10 hours.
Via Guangzhou adds a layover and takes about 12 to 14 hours in total, depending on the connection times. This can be longer but may offer lower fares or different scheduling options.

    • Yep - 4 or so hours longer to save $500 (ish). Always a trade off between time/convenience & money!

  • Good value, day flight options to Sydney etc, 2x23kg baggage

  • What is the fare price like for a long stop in Guangzhou so I can travel to China and Thailand.

    • +1

I would call the airline and ask about stopovers to get this info

    • +2

looks like its the same price, just do a multi city booking on the website https://oversea.csair.com/tk/au/en/book/search

      • When I tried this yesterday it didnt work, but yes, @oringal is right, you can do a mutli city booking on the CZ website and extend the stay in Guangzhou.

Handy if you want to go to China too, just don't get back on for the last leg to Bangkok.

    • Get a separate onward ticket to enter China if you skip the last leg to Australia. Traveling with hang luggage advised, if there is short transit CSA might not want to check your luggage to China only. This only works for the last leg. Failing to show for an earlier leg will cancel the ticket.

  • Any via Shenzhen? Fast 15min train ride down to Hong Kong.

  • +1

Shenzhen isn’t a daily service, and CAN is only 50 mins from HKG on the train
