Save you the click, BNE is via Singapore with 16 hour layover. Usual 9 hour flight is 1 day total.

    • Damn it.. BNE flights are a massive buzzkill. Should have been a genuine consideration before I decided to move to Brisbane.

      • +3

Should have been a genuine consideration before I decided to move to Brisbane.

You're welcome to leave and free up a house for people who have been forced to sleep in their cars due to the massive influx of people moving here…

      • I ain't the biggest Brisbane fan, but I'm pretty sure our Japan flights are usually better priced than the other cities.

        • -1

Theres only Quantas and Jetstar direct now so prices havent been as great, but still cheap for Jetstar.

    • On the other side of the coin - it's on QF51 (A330) which isn't the worst economy in the world. And the return should net a few status credits if that's your thing :)

But Changi Airport is fun! Voted as one of the best airport in the world. My family and I purposely booked a flight with 12hr layover in Singapore just to experience the airport.

      • You sleep at the airport too?

        • It's an overnight 9hr flight from Melbourne. We will arrive early in the morning at Changi and just spend the day there. There are free resting areas with beach like benches that can lay fairly flat to rest and cheap showers if you want to freshen up. After the 12hrs, the kids will be worn out for another sleepy flight to Tokyo.
Sounds okay in my head. Hopefully it'll work out.

    • +1

Simply get a family member to live in Singapore so you can tick off a visit to them and these layovers become a feature not a bug

  • +1

    is a stop over possible?

    • Keen to know this too. Anyone?

      • I'd love to stop for a few days in SG

        • just look fot Singapore airline deals then there should be plenty in the coming months

  • plzz January!

    • +1

There seems to be basically no sales for January ever/anywhere from what I can tell, school holidays etc. I badly wanted a break myself but you can barely even go interstate for under $400 and nowhere international under about $1000.

      • People go in January for the snow/skiiing in Japan. Very popular time

  • +1

Wtf Melb via SIN since when

    • +2

I thought it was supposed to be direct too 😭

    • +2

OP suggested some MEL flights are direct.

Wonder if the airport makes a difference - Narita or Haneda?

Edit: Looks like most direct flights are not $835.

Keen to know which dates have this price and is one leg.

      • -1

Have you actually looked at the direct prices? Less than the Sydney direct prices. Singapore for those who want to enjoy Changi along the way.

  • A few of Singapore <-> Tokyo flights are operated by Boeing 767 aircraft, which are up to 22 years old.

    • +7

Good, the doors don't blow off those models!

    • +3

2 3 2 is godly tho, only 1 row of middle on a widebody??

  • Heading to Japan ,Haneda 25 March from bris Singapore air because there were no flights apart from Qantas ,3 hr layover not bad but paid $1800 return but it is peak times .

  • Any flights to South America around Feb discounted?

  • I need a one way flight from japan to syd, preferably Osaka with Jetstar (but would go tokyo). Im astonished that a one way Jetstar flight once you add a bag is $680 at end of feb (Or over $800 from Tokyo) yet you can have a return flight, similar dates for $800 with japan airlines.

    • Supply and demand, it only has to be slightly cheaper if there's not much other choice.

    • I went to Osaka Universal Studios in Feb and it was so bloody freezing strong wind that even standing at the entrance gates I couldn't stand it, and we went upstairs to Saizeriya for some warmth instead.

So Feb is probably the coldest month and I ain't going back again then.

      • Good call on Saizeriya :)

    • I booked flights to Japan through jetstar for Aug next year for around 1600 (3 ppl). Kinda regretting it now since everyone has said the heat is horrendous during that time.

    Hi mate,
Are there any deals for direct flights from Perth?
    Thanks,

  • +1

Just got back from Japan, can confirm it is a really nice place and everyone was very friendly!

    • did you bring your own toilet paper ?

      • +1

We didn't, there isn't a whole lot of public toilets but there is plenty around train stations and tourist attractions.

  • I miss when more airlines did direct flights from Melbourne. I'm glad JAL does. Just wish it was cheap. I wanna fly with them one day. Time to enter the lotto.

    • +1

You need Qantas points to get the affordable JAL flights there.

  • hmm, very tempting, but I read in all kind of news and FB groups that Japan sinks into a crisis and even food prices are skyrocketing (not even mentioning of other services like accomodation and ski related stuff)

    • +5

We are still in Japan. Food here is generally cheaper than Sydney. However it depends on what you get.

    • +3

If you can't afford japan, you probably shouldn't go on holidays.

      • -2

What an odd comment. There are many local cheaper options for going on holidays.

        • +2

Let me get this right, LOCAL being holidays within AUSTRALIA?

You clearly haven't been to Japan.

          • -2

@TightAl: Yes local holidays within Australia. What don’t you understand?

I went to Japan in 2009 before it turned into the next Bali for bogan Australians.

            • +1

@PainToad: Makes sense you hang out with the local bogans in your local holiday since it's "cheaper"

    • +6

Just back from Japan this week, drinks at the Combi all mostly still under $2, including Strong Zero -196. Meal at Gyudon place still under $10 mostly and Bentos from $3 at supermarkets. Much cheaper to eat out and eating generally in Japan.

Another example was I went to Sushiro, had a few plates of sushi, tempura, a prawn tempura udon bowl and a parfait for desert and it only cost me 990 yen ($10.25). In Australia, it would be at least triple.

  • +2

Urgh… trying to get an itinerary to fit ANZAC Day/Easter, but return fares are in the three thousands of dollars…

    • +1

what an undesirable time to travel /s

  • If you are travelling with baby and toddler JAL terminal in narita have family check in lounge which they take care everything of weighing the luggage and you can checking in whilst sitting and the little one can do some drawing on the side (provided by them)
