how's it compare to the aldi set for $29.99 ? the aldi one appears to have a couple of VDE screwdrivers instead of nut drivers

Link to the Aldi set: https://www.aldi.com.au/special-buys/special-buys-sat-23-nov…

The electric light tester in the Aldi set could also come in handy too.

    • I'm wondering the same. I like the idea of these sets since you don't have to open a case for them. You can just have them out in the garage to grab when you need them.

Purchased this kit last time it was on OzBargain. Honestly they're really nice screw drivers, I see them lasting a long time, if not a lifetime. Also a diverse set for every job.

Cannot go wrong for the price.

Sorry, which kit - the Aldi or Supercheap?

        • Supercheap

      • Yes! I am also keen to know which you purchased and are recommending please!

Does anyone actually bother trying to perfectly match a screwdriver to a screw head? If it's a Philips I'll grab a Philips lying around and give it a go. I can pretty much get away with using two different sized Philips for everything.

    • +2

I do somwtimes. I was like you until I stripped a few small screews because there was not enough contact surface with the head.Do be extra careful with the small ones used with electronics.

The other thing with this set is different length and thickness of some of the screwdrivers. Makes reaching places or poking stuff a lot easier.
Had it for 5 years and fixed a lot if stuff including cars. Not the toughest but so far they withstood the abuse.

      • Surely you know about Pozidrive…https://shop4fasteners.co.uk/blog/pozidriv-vs-phillips/

    • +2

Absolutely. Wrong match (e.g. Ph2 driver in Ph3 screw) will tend to jump out and strip the screw. For low-torque applications it does not make much difference, but anytime you get serious, it will be much easier to drive your screws/bolts if it is properly matched (e.g. attaching TV mount with long screws into solid timber beams). This gets especially useful if you have impact driver - once it jumps out, it runs too fast and rouns your screw, ruining it straight away.

This is good set nothing incredible but it pretty much has every screwdriver you will ever need

Looks awfully similar to the ALDI one!

Another alternative from Bunnings, $29.98 at time of comment.

    • Link doesn't work. Do you have the item number.?

    • +1

      Craftright are rubbish tools.

I thinking about these compared to the others as they are colour coded. So you can easily grab the one you need based on colour and size if it plain philips or flat.

    • +1

Not gonna lie, this is actually really underrated.
I have a yellow/black Aldi set from a few years ago, and that's really my only complaint about it.

Even with size and type numbering e.g. PH1 on the top of the handle, I found that these can rub/wear off over time, and even when present isnt as easy to judge at a glance.
Having the handles in different colours by type is a great idea.

Can I become a pro if I buy these? Currently a home user.

At this price it better be made in Australia

  • Can the rack be wall mounted?

  • any recommendation for an electric one?

  • I have this set bought at this price. Not sure they're suitable for anything heavy duty, but I wanted a handy set for my office workbench. So far haven't had any significant wear. The holder is a bit of pain to slot screwdrivers back in would be my only complaint. Haven't really used the small bits much. I wouldn't pay $70, but $35 is a reasonable price. This price comes up regularly so never pay full price. Aldi one is probably just as good.

  • Bought a set. Will see how they go I guess.

  • Have this and love it. Recommend.
