Compare to what they used to have there before (e.g. Legion 7i with 4070 for $1900 or Slim 5 with 8845 & 4070 for $1400), now prices not that super bargain anymore …

Top tier processor, mid gfx card

    • +1

And ram… Only 16gb, enough for chrome to open up atleast, lol

      • -1

well at least the RAM is not soldered…

    • According to Wikipedia, the 4060 is an entry level card…

      • +2

In the world of gaming laptops where RTX 30X0s are still being sold and 4050s exist, yeah, the 4060 can be considered mid-range

        • +1

          People still buying GTX cards

          • @DeanHaboro: ? There are no GTX on sale anymore

            • @Mr Bob Dobalina: Depends where you’re looking, they’re certainly in a lot of pre builds and laptops being offered at retail. My point is that an RTX 4060 isn’t entry level.

              • @DeanHaboro: It's entry level in the 40 series range.

                • @Mr Bob Dobalina: Well laptop 4090 are rare and niche products, no Ti versions in 40 series laptop as far as I know,
Realistically majority is just 4050, 4060, 4070 and some 4080 laptops.
So yea even among 40 series laptops 4060 and 4070 are mid range, in between entry level 4050 (~$1.5k) and higher end 4080 (~$3k).

4060 and 4070 are both mid-range because only 4080 and upwards break the 100W TGP performance limit

2050 4GB being sold brand new on manufacturers official product website this black friday.

  • Had issues trying to order. Kept auto decline on $0.00 and tried different links

    • It is still 'a little bit' cheaper than their normal online shop, sure ppl will still grep them, unless this one goes below $1200, I don't regard it as their true 'outlet' prices … Also now this site has been 'ozbargained' here publicly all the time, Lenovo know they don't need to give drop dead prices anymore, what a pity …

  • This feels like a no brainer to me as someone who's been waiting for the ryzen 7 slim 5 to go down close to $1500… but I'm concerned there's been so many intel legions in the outlet lately. makes me think people are unhappy with the intel vers specifically since we're not seeing outlet AMDs?

Full disclosure that I haven't bought a computer since 2018, so I have no idea how overblown or not intel's current gen issues are.

    • +1

I expect some people are concerned that the issues Intel has had with their 13th/14th gen i9 desktop cpus may extend in some way to their laptop variants, could be leading to lower that expected sales volumes.

    • I don't get it.

      Why get this?

It costs a lot, mid range graphics, and heavy as f so it very portable.

Might as well get a desktop for half the price for similar performance.

I mean in my personal case, it's because I need to work while lying down for medical reasons. I looked into getting like a hospital bed setup, but I'd need specialty equipment and someone to put it together for me etc etc. Altogether it probably would have been about the same cost as a $1500 laptop anyway. I'm not technically bedbound, just can't sit or stand comfortably for longer than a few minutes, so it's better for me to be able to take a device around different rooms throughout the day.

Mid range graphics for me are fine since this will be for student animation, not gaming. Any recent 8gb+ nvidia card is fine for basic projects from what I understand. I guess a lighter laptop would be nice, which is why the slim was my top choice, but even then the slim is only like 200g lighter.

Gaming laptops aren't a good deal for most people I agree, but I guess there's enough weirdos like me with super specific niche cases where they're a viable option.

        • Good luck with your gaming laptop sir!

  • can the RAM we user upgraded?

    • +1

yes, it has 2 slots. The SSD can be expanded as well I think.

    • +2

It does say that it has 2x 8GB - so you would have to throw away/repurpose both sticks in order to upgrade.

  • +1

Bargain, in this configuration the CPU is a bit of overkill, you can underclock it to get it to run a bit more efficiently. While 4060 is midrange this machine runs up to 140 watts which is the maximum it can run at. Also, with DLSS you get 30-50% better performance than the previous 30 series cards in a lot of games.

I have the 5 Pro with 13900 with 4060 and 240Hz screen, it is a great machine for gaming, AI/LLM and video processing.
