Since when did we spend $700 on a fancy dust collector? These need new batteries every few years yes?

    • Can't comment haven't used it yet but unlike other electronics at least it can be replaced!

    • Since you guys keep buying them

I do a 4x2 hardwood floor house with a v8 on a single charge and empty.

It's an absolute brilliant little thing and would easily spend the money on it.

    • I've got a v7 that's several years old and still going strong. I would never buy a corded vacuum ever again, the Dyson form factor is so easy to use.

I own one of these as my primary vacuum. My suggestion is DON'T.

The dust canister on the V12 is tiny, it's 350ml. For comparison, the Dyson V6 has a 400ml canister. The small size means it fills too fast, it's difficult to empty, and the filter clogs all the time.

The other main issue is that none of the powered accessories work with the V12. Those accessories will work the V6, V7, V8, V10, V11, and V15. But not the V12. Yes, you can find versions of these accessories for the V12, but they are hard to find, expensive, and not compatible with other vacuums.

It's the black sheep in the Dyson vacuum lineup. Don't bother.

However, this deal price is good. So if I haven't convinced you go for it.

    • I believe this is the black sheep for those needing a super light vacuum.

      • Super light is the main benefit. I'm not convinced that benefits makes up with the shortcomings though.

Doesn't it already come with all the accessories you need? Seems like a bunch that cover everything already

      • My bugbear is the Low Reach Adapter. I use this for cleaning under my bed. It doesn't work on my V12.

    • Damn that's annoying about the canister size and accessories. The V12 is a more manageable weight at 2.2kg, the gen5detect is 3.5 kg.

      Decisions decisions 😞.

      • Do you have carpet across your house and pet hair everywhere? If so, this might not be great for you.

Otherwise it's great for my use case (two bedroom townhouse). Worst case scenario you spend the 30 seconds emptying the bin, it's not as horrific as mentioned above. It's nice and light so I love hand holding it while using a third party flexible hose and brush set to basically dust sections of the house and easily clean the inside of my car

    • I live in a unit and it is ok for us, unless you live a house…

I got mine for $694. Yes the dust canister is tiny, but depends on your use case (I don't vacuum the house all at once, I zone vacuum throughout the week). After each one, I just empty it and so far has been problem free.

I have had the filter clog on me yet, so will keep an eye out for that.

Accessories, never had to buy an accessory after the original purchase, happy with the tools they give you.

One thing that is absolutely great is the weight saving on the device. Very light and maneuverability is great.

      Again use case basis.

    • I have one, love it, perfect for small apartment. It is expensive but it's popular for a reason. It's the only Dyson handheld vacuum that has the acceptable weight for me.

I agree it's a bit hard to empty, hair often stuck and needed to be removed manually, but I heard v15 has the same issue too.

Also agree the accessories are hard to find, but mostly because the Dyson website is TERRIBLE. Some of the accessories appears to be out of stock on the site, but they are actually the outdated version. I often have to google the product and go to the correct link directly.

      • Hair is always a problem regardless of which Dyson… especially long hair. Wraps around the rollers and then in the bin.

    Gen5detect for very little more

    • Good point might get that instead

      • Worth buying complete model if you can

        • Wouldn't recommend the Absolute with the smaller container? Still seems a decent size at 0.77L. Is the complete a bit bulky and cumbersome with the 1.9L bucket?

    • They are heavy as hell. Be careful.

  • looking for a vacuum but not sure how Dyson model numbers work. Does a higher number mean it's better? And why is the Gen5detect more expensive than V11 or V12?

    • Gen5detect is the newer model and I think technically more powerful (maybe only on boost).

It's 3.5kg and is 500g heavier than the v15. The trigger has been replaced with an on/off button on, some people like this and some don't.

Gen5detect also has an in-built crevice tool which is handy. There are probably some other changes.

  • Currently I owned a V12 and have the same concern about the battery replacement. If I have another chance, I'd go for V15…

  • are all the accessories smaller in size too? or just the canister? like the width/length of the rollers

  • I was going to post this deal, but I'll just add my info here so it's not a dupe.

Shopback is the better option if you have a Westpac, St.George, BankSA or Bank of Melbourne card and pay using Apple Pay.

Dyson upsized 6% cashback + 1% Shopback Plus + Bank Bonus 10% + Challenge bonus $5 equates to another $85 off.

I've been monitoring this for a while and it works out the cheapest deal that I've seen.

If you have physical limitations there isn't a lot of suitable options when it comes to stick vacs or vacs in general, the V12 is one of the few.
