Get 6 Weeks Free on combined Domestic Hospital and Extras

  1. The Offer

If you’re an Eligible Customer who maintains an Eligible Bupa Health Insurance Policy and pay by direct debit, you’ll receive from Bupa HI Pty Ltd (ABN 81 000 057 590) (Bupa):

6 weeks free, with the value of your free weeks based on your level of cover when payment is made. How it works:
In most cases, your 6 weeks free will be applied 28 days after you join, extending the date you’re “paid to”.
If your weeks free period ends before your next direct debit date, we may take a smaller-than-usual payment to make up the difference.
If you join through a Bupa consultant and pay yearly, your first payment will be reduced by the value of 6 weeks.

  • Good offer in terms of financial benefit but beware that many OzBargainers have had significant issues with Bupa customer service.

As a regular churner, I recommend taking up Bupa offers as a last resort, if there is no other active deal from another insurer. This is because of the customer service concerns described above and the time you will likely have to expend seeking resolution.

    • I am considering this or GMBHA ~ I don't qualify for Frank.. what would you suggest? With territory health now

      • +1

The current GMHBA promotion is similar. GMHBA customer service is much more accessible. I'd be going with GMHBA.

        • GMBHA does not give full back on optical?

          • @ozbargainerlife1: I'm not sure what your question is. All the funds operate in a similar manner.

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: I called GMBHA and they said they don't have member network to offer no gap optical and dental cleans

              • @ozbargainerlife1: You'll very likely save much more by churning than by worrying about a free dental service.

Every person's priorities are different. Do what works for you.

          • +1

@ozbargainerlife1: The AiA Vitality GMHBA extras option has 100% back on optical.

Light years ahead of Bupa on customer service. Never had to wait when calling yet….

They both push using an app ..and the app in both cases is crap.

        • Does this promotion (GMHBA) have 6 weeks cover free like BUPA , I cannot seem to find it?
          Can you help please?
          TIA

    • +1

Mind elaborate a bit more on the issues?

    • How do you churn in terms of limits? Don't some of them reset every calendar year and some financial?

      • How do you churn in terms of limits?

What is your question? I don't understand.

Don't some of them reset every calendar year and some financial?

        Yes.

        • If you use up your extras with a provider then churn to another provider a few months later, do you get a new limit on extras?

          • @EchoNoob: Yes, the limit resets on the 1 January, 1 July, or Date of Joining (anniversary date).

You are entitled to claim again up to the relevant limit. This is one of the 'perks' of churning.

  • Any promo for hospital only cover

    • Just get a cheap extras

      • I already have extra with another provider which I dont want to change as it pays 3 times what I pay in premium every year so just wanted to sign up for hospital cover

        • You don’t have to cancel your extra with the other provider

          • @nomekop: You can have extra with 2 provider? So I can claim extra benefits for 2 companies?

            • @Hellcat: Yes..

            • @Hellcat: Claiming extras for 2 providers would be fraud.
But if you add a cheap extras options you get 6 weeks free of the expensive hospital cover!

        • Which provider you use for extras?

    • I have seen one such promo in years of churning.

I have previously demonstrated that it's cheaper to take out Hospital and Extras under a 'Pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free' promotion than to take out Hospital only for that same period. Search through my posts.

Most people churn hospital cover so they don't get slogged with the Medicare levy surcharge. The extras are a bonus.

      • So lowest hospital + better extras for the rewards/bonuses?

        • +1

          yep, thats what I do.

      • That's a huge assumption on your part.

I want health insurance (Gold hospital and Top extras). I churn because I don't want to pay more than I have to.

          good to know…

Can confirm that your head is scrambled.

      • Any better?
Do I even need hospital, my head got scrambled signing up to AIA earlier in the year - 33, healthy, no health concerns aside from being a bit nuts
Levy, how much does it really benefit me the longer I keep it?
I usually max out and hit the limit of most if not all the common extras with a sprinkle of the others scattered around.
AIAs promo I feel I fell for and now that I've maxed out their vitality program, I feel spewing money now for not much in return

  • What's the best deal for existing Bupa customers?

  • +1

Bupa among other recently list their contract with Healthscope…so be careful if you want to attend any of their hospitals.

    • Correct - and is about to outsource customer service to the Philippines.

  • I think it's best to wait for them to do another deal including Woolies rewards points, they seem to do it once a year
