Carpuride Screen 9" with Dashcam $222 Delivered (and Other Sizes) @ Carpuride

60
BF40

This is a 40% off code. Very often they do 30%.

Just one of their products as an example. Note that while this model does have a dashcam, it's only a FullHD one, which is ok, but there are much better standalone dashcams. Their other products don't have the dashcam (but can have a rear cam).

These are a screen that can do Apple Carplay or Android Auto and play the audio through your car radio. In sizes from 5-10". Various options like rear cameras, dashcam. Various mounting options.

I have a 7" in my car and a 10" (with wireless rear camera) in my motorhome. They work quite well mainly being limited by the quality of the Carplay apps. In a car it can be a little tricky finding a place to mount it.

It was a great product, Very responsive. The only issue was that it was blocking a lot of front view.

Hard to know with the generic ones which are any good. At least Carpuride has been around for a while and has a decent reputation. They could be exactly the same - who knows?

I think that's why they do the widescreen ones. I prefer the more square shape screen so there is more height for sat nav apps, but that makes it even harder to see over.

If you're short and your dashboard is high you might have trouble. I'd recommend using a cardboard template and see if that fits somewhere that doesn't cause a problem. Even if you do find a place, the mount may not work. My 7" goes to the right of the steering wheel with about half the screen above the dash using the sucker mount on the windscreen. I tried the CD slot mount, but in my car it blocked too many buttons.

  • Looks like a rebranded $50 AliExpress unit. ^ °

They do all look similar. I've seen some Youtubes comparing and Carpuride does well. Better processors and screen quality than cheap ones. Which is not to say some of the cheap ones wouldn't match it, but it's knowing which.

Might be worth looking at something like this which has a 4k front camera and a rear camera. I'm wary of trying to put too many functions in one device, but it simplifies wiring and power supply.

    • Carpuride and T'eyes have been around for a while, they take a generic higher end chinadroid and put some decent software on.

They also have varying support, for example T'eyes has an Australian rep in Perth. T'eyes also enables retrofits into cars with climate etc built into the main multimedia screen, especially Lexus.

      • I asked AI to tell me, using a picture, all about carpuride.

        The result seems mostly accurate.

  • Wouldn't this melt on the dash?

I checked the description and can neither confirm or deny whether this unit is made from Cadbury dairy milk ®

No, but good dash cams have a super capacitor to prevent problems from overheating.

  • I'm also confused. Does my car need apple car play in the first place or can this just be connected via iPhone Bluetooth and go from there?

      Who else is confused here?

Does my car need apple car play in the first place

      No

These are best for cars that don't have CarPlay/Android Auto and/or don't have a decent screen. You can just run stuff on your phone but it's not designed for use in a car (with big buttons etc) besides being illegal. I'm not even sure why a screen is legal (i.e. Tesla).

The apps run on your phone. The phone connects to the screen by bluetooth/wifi. The screen connects to your car radio by either (in depending order of audio quality) - auxiliary cable (radio needs an aux in port), Bluetooth, FM Transmitter. FM Transmitter means the sc green broadcasts the audio on an FM frequency which you tune your radio to. If you can't do any of that (no car radio) it has its own speaker (but that would be terrible for music).

      • Thanks. This clears it up up .might get one for the mrs

        • It's good having Carplay as calls, music, sat nav, podcasts are all there. I like podcasts and it just restarts from where you left off when you start the car.
