Might just be the better thermal conductivity. I just ran a quick simple test, nothing conclusive, but it doesn't seem to use any more power in idle than a regular plastic case usb stick. Both were about 0.15 - 0.2 watts

But for the record, mine gets hot too when I leave it attached to the media player.

      • Okay I did a bit of a longer test in case there were intermittent periods of higher use, and these things do use a bit more power in idle.
        Sandisk extreme - ~125mW

My first 1GB USB Flash Drive was $99…

      • Think I bought my first 128MB USB for similar too~$100. Was using Iomega's zip drive for 100MB before that which I thought was already amazing x100 more than floppy disks!

  • Real speeds, especially write speed?

I just tested the 64GB version of them.

Did a 32GB test just to ensure accuracy. 4KB write fell off a cliff.
