Not much to say it's a USB stick and decent price.

  • Great deal! Just bought four, thanks!

  • these are great

  • Is this better than the Tesla default usb ?

    • +3

I think it is the same USB, just rebranded as Tesla.

    • +1

It's the exact same shape so I'm thinking it's the same

  • This is another option if you need USB-C, also better write speed: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CJ5V8BRL?th=1

    • Buy 3 for $62.02 with the 8 & 10% discounts.

    • +7

I'm avoiding SanDisk USBs until they make ones which don't run so hot they start having issues or slowdowns.

      • +1

What do you recommend usb type C to transfer files from phone that not run hot?

        • Just don't leave it in too long.
Get the job done the get out.

  • +1

What are people using these for in 2024? I kind of want one but don't see the use case

    • No CD player in car. 128gb of tunes.
Can also just leave these plugged into the back of TVs for PVR

      • Just had to Google PVR. What are you recording? And with what? My interest has been piqued

      • +1

recommend setting up kodi, all the FTA catch up channels/apps in one place, easier (list) interface and ad-free!

I still wouldn't mind one for $20 but may never use it. 1-2TB M.2 is better these days (for music server etc).

    • +1

Side load things on the PS3/PS4, lazily / manually copy videos and plug it into the side of the tv to watch them.

    • +1

These are one of the drives recommended by unRaid to use as a boot disk. Can't find the page though.

    • Playing files from your PC on your TV (obviously).

    • exporting /importing data in the field (Surveyor) these are pretty durable and don't break

    • I stopped using them. Instead, I'm using a Transcend ESD310C 1TB. It's much faster.

    • Xbox retroarch

  • Looks pretty good and robust. Grabbed one. Thanks OP

Do these still get incredibly hot?

    • +1

My first thought. I have one.

    • +1

This would be my concern. I had a different USB (I think it was Sandisk branded) and plugged it into my TV to watch movies from, and it got so hot that it started melting.

      • Yeah I have a Sandisk that gets pretty hot too and looking to replace, but I remember the stories of the old Samsung Bars that were too hot to touch after just being plugged in and not even read/writing - would rather avoid that

        • d'oh.

I have some old 32GB Samsung FIT and Sandisk FIT and certainly back then Sandisk would overheat like crazy but the Samsung stayed cool … so guess which one was left permanently plugged into the back.

Looking to upsize that one but obviously same criteria around the heat.

  • I've bought this before, unfortunately keeping it on the keyring doesn't seem to be safe for it.

    • Does it come of a steel keyring?

    • I've had 2 or 3 of these, (keep on upgrading size when deals appear), and they've all lived on my keyring, without a single issue over 5? ish years. It's why I buy them, they're rugged, unlike the cheapo plastic cases, which won't survive on a keyring. If you're storing data, you don't want to lose them.

So wild…. I've still got a Transcend 128MB USB drive I bought for like $70, and back then I thought it was a steal for something I could fit an album of mp3s on lol

    • +1

      Memories….
I've got a functioning Sony Vault 32MB chunky usb stick. Back then it was a great floppy replacement.

  • +1, can vouch for these.
Have accidentally chucked in the washing machine and it came out fine. Really fast, no complaints.

  • Thanks, seems like an unreal price for 128gb. There is a YouTube video of a 32gb Samsung Bar 3.0 being boiled and hit with a hammer and surviving.

  • +1

I've had a 64gb in my TV for a couple years with no problem.

Whereas the little thumbnail sized Sandisks only lasted a month till they corrupted.

Although the BAR acts like a heatsink even when not in use as it's always hot when I remove it.

  • These come free with any Tesla in the glovebox. They work well given the continuous write nature of recording the dashcam to it.
