Thought id just share this for anyone in the market for a new NVMe ssd.

Currently 23% off with coupon valid till 2nd Dec 2024, doesn't come up when you search in 'Black Friday Sales' category fyi.
While not the cheapest its been ($153 via Amazon JP in mid 2023), seems most SSDs are up in price this year from last. and if you managed to nab some of the tasty 5-10% amazon gift cards previously, its not a bad price then.

Went with this over something else around its price point like the Lexar NM790 as it has DRAM caching.

4TB version also on sale at $364.13 (also cheaper previously at $359 via Amazon JP in mid 2023), but i think the 4tb market has more competitive drives available around this price point:

Bought one last year (2TB one), Silicon Power did a component swap, Innogrit + the infamous YMTC 128L NAND. I returned it to Amazon due to it having the infamous YMTC 128L NAND. Did open it to check the controller and NAND. Ran a Crystal DiskMark test before returning it:

Silicon Power XS70 2TB (InnoGrit + YMTC 128L NAND) Crystal DiskMark test result

All time best price on Amazon AU:

    2TB: $149.43 - 15/08/2023
    4TB: $333.66 - 15/08/2023

Some OZBers did get the Phison E18 version, but that was back in June 2023 or earlier (and slightly more expensive).

Do we know if it was just the 2TB that had the swap or also the 4TB?

4TB was swapped back in July 2023. 2TB was swapped first, but 4TB soon followed. Quite a few OZBers did receive Phison E18 4TB version ($376.98 - June 2023). Initially, OZBers were hoping the 2TB would also be Phison E18 based (but swap already took place). Majority of OZBers who bought the 2TB ones did keep them so would be great if they let us know their experiences with their 2TB SSDs.

I don't rule out Silicon Power has done yet another component swap since then.

  • Yeah i just got this as a game drive. so if he dies, he dies
