Worrying reviews. Too much mention of these being refurbed drives.
Reviews are pulled from listings across different Amazon sites. It's possible people had bought from 3rd party sellers as they can be selected on the same listing.
Most people would already be aware of this, but just in case some unlucky sucker thinks this is a bargain… It's highly likely to be the same fraud mentioned here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/891267
Common knowledge even when those deals were up, but people didn’t believe the Chinese sources and convinced that they were “new”
thanks for the heads up, was considering buying a couple to put in a home server but that story about the smart data being wiped is enough to pump the brakes

It is almost certainly a brand new drive.

Wut, how?
Do you think the mega corp Amazon is buying refurb hard drives and resetting SMART data to scam people?
@Aureus: Not on purpose, but the supply chain has already been shown to be corrupted with refurbed drives.
@nugstar: I don't really know how big "Alternate, Böttcher, Büroshop 24, Galaxus, Jacob, Kosatec, Maingau and Proshop" are, but no evidence of Amazon selling dodgy HDD. Would be big news if they were.
Either way you shouldn't buy any HDD from Amazon direct, because they don't package them correctly.
Surely these would NOT be refurbished as they are sold direct from seagate not a third party store?
Happy to be corrected, but but I don't think the "Visit the Seagate Store" link means it is sold by Seagate. On the right you will see:

I believe the size is a bit bigger than normal drives. I have a 12TB, which doesn't fit my cage.
yeah nah
Be cautious now fellow ozbargainer as comments are more than upvotes.
Couldn't you trust Amazon for a new product to actually be new?
https://www.heise.de/en/news/Fraud-with-Seagate-hard-disks-D…
According to the readers, various retailers supplied the hard disks, with Amazon… being mentioned in large numbers.
People buy on the Amazon marketplace and don't know the difference between sold by a marketplace seller and Amazon.
Reviews are from people who brought from Amazon marketplace and direct from Amazon.
You can see another 1 star review mentioning they had to pay 20 EUR to return the faulty item, so that was clearly not from Amazon direct.
Stick with East Digital, I got 3 X18s 16TB for $267 each, factory recertified of course, no issues, 24/7 use, high disk use most of the time as well.
I had one of those die on me recently after two years. I sent it back to them and they provided a full refund. Good service and they stick to their 3 year warranty.
Couldn't agree more here. I've got 14 of these drives. One failed about a year ago after 2 years and got a refund for it.
Thanks for the suggestion, please could you share a link to where one can get this offer?
legend, thank you.
Do they have any current group buy offers?
Yep got one 16t exo it is rather quiet than I expected . 230$ can’t beat that deal
They still got that deal? I can't see it on their site…
Had one X16 die after a couple of months, East Digital initially said they would refund and not replace because they had no stock. Once I reminded them they are still for sale, I was offered a replacement.
Now showing sold out. I had one die and they have offered a refund :(

Yeah I'd be wanting parity if i was using one of these questionable drives.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/862268 these have been $259 each before, but allegedly were refurbs
the limit of one per customer is sound, practically humanitarian….one drive of data loss is better than multiple. typical seagate crap, wouldnt touch seagate with a barge pole
I just need affordable (<$150) 4TB disks. Even those seems to be gone
The reviews are hardly reassuring…
