What are some of your go-to's?

  • The quality is not good but its so cheap that I bought 2,one from amazon 8L for $157.99 and other smaller one from spotlight for $70ish

    • The quality is not good??

    • What don't you like about the quality? I've had mine about 3 yeats now, its never skipped a beat using it multiple times per week. Its of very high quality in my opinion.

      • The quality of food in instant pot is worse than dedicated appliances as:

The pressure cooker in the instant pot is 11.6 PSI. This means you have to adjust cooking times. But even then pressure cookers that use 15 PSI will produce more tender meat.

The Sous vide doesn't have a circulator; the meat will cook unevenly compared to a sous vide with a circulator.

        This could be Op's problem.

But honestly the instant pot will suit most people. As the difference in quality will be barely noticeable.

      • I had Instant Pot air fryer the paint took off after first time use,the pressure cooker I only use it for soup or steam and max 10 times of use for the 2 cookers but has food into the liner that cant be clean

    Gone. Price back Up

  • If this comes back into stock let me know :)

  • Duo plus 5.7lt $119? Might be a good enough size for mostly all 4-5 head count families

    • +1

      Get the 8L

    • I second the 8L.

I still have a the 3-ish litre and it's not even enough for meal prep for two. Last us 2, maybe 3 days tops.

  • Hijacking post as I bought the Ninja XL and barely use it.

What are everyone's go-to pressure recipes?

    • +4

Stew, typically beef or lamb. Cut into 1-inch cubes or smaller sizes. Any vegies you want (I typically try to get frozen veg that is pre-cut/pre-sliced). Add salt, pepper, any spices you like. Add stock powder (or MSG, but I haven't tried that yet). 2-3 cups of water. Pressure cook for 60-90 minutes. If it's too watery, thicken up using corn flour. Adding peas/corn at the end can give it more colour. Adding diced garlic at the end can give it some nice pops of flavour.

      • +2

That seems like a long time to pressure cook (I usually set about 30 mins)

        • Yeah depends how chunky/chewy you like it. I like everything to break down and become super soft.

      • If you're cubing the meat you don't need to pressure cook that long

Highly recommend searing the meat first in the pot too

        • As above, regarding time. I'd say if you use something like brisket you might want more than 30 minutes.

Regarding searing - I hadn't considered that, could be interesting! But I'm also lazy, haha.

      • +1

Pretty mich exactly what I do. I buy beef brisket, saute with S&P and a squirt of tomato paste and either tean gourmet chicken curry or rendang paste. Pressure for 45 mins. Then throw in whatever vegies on a bed of basmati rice.

      Creme brulee

      Bolognese

      Risotto

      Chicken stock

—- just search any of these terms and add "instant pot", and find one that has the ingredients you already have.

    • I cook white rice in 10 mins, or brown rice in 20. Makes huge quantities. Also capable of making a single bowl

  • +1

Dump in 5-6 chicken breasts. 15 min high pressure. Cool down. Dice up. In freezer bags.

    De nada.

    • +1

If you want a flavourless chicken breast, sure.

Otherwise, you need to brown the chicken first, that's half of the flavour right there.

      • Mr. Gordon Ramsay, brown your chicken, pressure cook it and see what happens. You'll end up wasting time and a pale brownish chicken and stock.

You can add the seasoning to any dish you make later. I just gave you a tip on how to cook six meals in about 20-30 minutes.

Bonus: you will get chicken stock too. This is where I put bayleaf and aromatics to boost the stock. Put it in a cup and in the freezer too.

        • Can you share one of those recipes?

  • +1

15 mins rice always works for me. personally prefer the jasmine rice.
chicken wings, sticks, 5 mins high pressure and finish it up in a wok, stir fried.
i am tempting buying second one since a lot of time i want to prepare meat while cooking the rice.

    • Thank you, grabbed one.

I bought one of these about three years ago. It's excellent other than the flimsy plastic pressure release knob broke off after a few uses.

That said, I also have a 5 year old ALDI one. It has the same range of functions and performs just as well. IIRC I paid < $100 for it.

The InstantPot, on the upside, is better for parts. But they cost.
