    Price is $24.80 not $24

    • Fixed, thank you!

  • Cheap! How long do you think these would last on a shelf unopened? I just bought a couple of kgs elsewhere.

    • 3 weeks-ish, I just opened my second 1kg bag,
I have to change my grind size to compensate for beans aging towards the end

      • +4

keep them in the freezer and they wont age anywhere near as fast.

        • +4

Yes, I am scooping ~200g beans out at a time and keep them in resealable bags
the rest of the 1kg bag in the freezer

          • @frkino: Do you have to vacuum pack them for the freezer and when you take it out do you have to bring them to room temp first before grinding?

            • +1

@roofyapple: If you bring them to room temperature in the sealed bag, condensation will form on the bag not your beans. If you open the bag whilst beans are frozen, condensation with form on the beans.

            • @roofyapple: No, didn't do the vacuum pack step. My bag was only roasted 4 days before my purchase date.
My understanding is (and please the mighty internet correct me) the beans are going to gas-out anyways, so my objective is to just limit volume of air the beans will be expose to rather than completely suffocating the beans.

I always do freezer > fridge to reduce the templerature shock. The fridge environment is relatively dryer than my ambient environment.

Only my immediate-use portion gets to come out from the bag > fridge > ambient temperature. The rest of the bag goes back into the fridge.
Since I am not striving for a lab-controlled results, I figured the steps for me to do all the transferring and vaccuming and whatnot would've taken longer. So back into the freezer it went.

My observation still stands, these beans in room temperature has about 3 weeks before another dial-in recalibration. (Using a Barista Pro 54mm basket, 18g dose)

              • @frkino: @frkino I probably wouldn't be freezing 4 days after roast date but that's just me.

Getting a bit snobby here but general rule of thumb is beans need at least a week to degas and sometimes longer to fully develop the profile.

I also grind the beans frozen. If it's good enough for James Hofdman it's good enough for me.

                • @ezz88: Roast date on their packets not completely reliable. Finally got my order from last promo yesterday - roast date was showing as the day after the courier picked it up.

              • +1

                What is 'temperure shock' here?

If you mean to avoid condensation, that happens on the outside of the bag so it doesn't matter. There should be barely any air left on the inside of the bag to carry moisture. And going from 4C of the fridge to room temp is under the dew point anyway.

Just let the freezer bag warm up to ambient before opening it.

Freezer to fridge is just a totally unnecessary additional step.

        • +1

Best to store them in individual packages (single portions). Otherwise condensation occurs as soon as you oen the lid.

        • i freeze them in sandwich bag batches and they tend to be perfect for at least 3 months. havent needed to go longer yet. i've found it best for consistency if you let them sit in the sealed original bag until 10-15 days after roast date before freezing. otherwise you're forever adjusting the grind.

They sell golf tees for $2. I added one to my 2kg Downtown order which brought it over the $50 threshold for free postage. Plus, I play golf so win win!

    • +2

looks like free shipping is based on the original price, not the cart price. as even 1kg of downtown beans at $24.80 qualified me for free shipping.

grabbed some golf tees anyway though because it'll be a nice reminder of my bargain hunting when i'm having a bad golf game!

      • +2

Probably because you are in VIC.

        • good point - i really should read titles closely before commenting!

  • Seems a fair few of their products are 50% off once in cart

    • Yes. Only Downtown at 60%.

      • +1

AND Downtown can be bought for 50% discount any time by buying it through a coffee subscription

  • Grabbed a kg to try, comparable price even with the $5 delivery to airjo

    • +5

      Better than airjo imho

    • +5

Airjo used to be my go to daily drinker, but I've switched to downtown.

Great results every time and good for milk coffees. Not bitter, chocolatey and smooth.

      • I'm a decaf drinker 90% off the time (love coffee, but don't need the caffeine), but Downtown is my new go to for a caffeinated brew! Forgiving and hard to go wrong with. As you've said great for milk coffees and, in my opinion, long blacks too!

As for their decaf products, I quite like it, but wanted to compare a bit more to Airjo, but lucky for Inglewood, Airjo are always out of stock of their decaf. Yet to be determined which is more preferred.

    • Still think Lime Blue is a touch better. Good for variety.

  • Still a pretty good deal with $5 shipping to QLD

  • Why is it that Downtown is often discounted to 60% off but Sunset Blvd is rarely discounted beyond 50%?

    • +3

according to the insider guy, sunset is their best seller..
my take: dont need to discount further if it's already selling!

  • Ordered… 1st time trying.
How does it compare to Airjo enterprise and Limeblue M2M?

    • Haven't yet tried the 'Thank You Blend' I've got, but am disappointed with the Lime Blue decaf.

Due to smoothness and consistency of the brew, have enjoyed Downtown a lot more than expected - prefer it over most Airjo beans I've tried (still enjoy Airjo, though).

      • yeah not crazy about Lime Blue's decaf… I do absolutely love their Sao Paulo though.

      • I also didn't rate LB decaf however I do rate Inglewood decaf

    • +2

Airjo enterprise is high on the chocolate scale, low on acidity, and much stronger than downtown. On the other hand, Limeblue M2M is more on the acidic side and I would prefer Downtown or Sunset blvd over it any day. Have you tried Limeblue's Sao Paulo SO, I suggest you try that next time it comes up on special as well.

      • Roosevelt is really nice from inglewood, better than sunset by miles IMO. I could compare it to lime blue SP

        • Funny you should say that! Our 'house' style is Roosevelt. With LB São Paulo as the preferred alternative.

Other family members seem to prefer Downtown - so our 5kg Inglewood orders tend to be a mix of Roosevelt and Downtown.

    • I have tried the Sunset Blvd and can vouch its really good, comparable or slightly better than Airjo/Limeblue (to my liking). Never tried the Downtown as its a dark roast

  • Any clue re when this BF discount wraps up?

  • Any better than Aldi dark roast?

    • Depends on how you drink your coffee. I like Aldi's medium roast for milk-based drinks; this is definitely a step or 2 above that. Inglewood has been consistently delivering good beans with Sunset Blvd being one of my favourite and this is a close second.

    • definitely give the aldi luxe blend a try, its been my go to and is perfect for any coffee tasks.

    • +1

      IMO Downtown is much nicer.

    • It's subjective of course, but personally I find downtown much better than ALDI coffee beans (have tried them all).

    • Aldi dark roast is brutal! I can tolerate some of their others but the dark roast is only good to add to a blend for some extra kick and creama from the robusta beans.

  • Anyone looking for alternative roasters to the usual OzB rotation, I'd recommend giving Ranges Coffee a go (not associated). Not on sale, but not unreasonable for a taster pack.

  • +1

Still waiting for delivery of last promo. 9 days and not yet picked up by courier.

    • Yeah expect slow delivery with this one.

  • When does the sale end?

  • I'm not seeing this price, was it a price error which has been fixed or am I missing something?

    • +2

the discount is applied once you add to cart

  • Roasted darker to accomodate domestic equipment

Does anyone know how dark this is? My domestic equipment is towards the higher end of the range, and I don't usually prefer dark.
Perhaps someone who's tried both can compare it to the ALDI Luxe blend.

    • +1

Aldi Luxe is a bit brighter, Downtown has the balance right IMO, not too dark but plenty of body and character

  • Ha, Oh yes, I still have one bag from the last deal.

  • Any chanceof delayed dispatch to late jan?

  • Anyone else not able to go through checkout?
Wont let me type in my credit card details :/

  • Great work OP, ordered!

  • Would this count as medium or dark roast?
It says roasted darker but not sure if these are too oily? Will be using them in a super automatic.

  • Awesome stuff, I have ordered a few kgs!

  • Good local roaster, happy with their service and can recommend.

  • for some reason it shows $62 or $31 for every 4 weeks' subscribe and save :(

    • Just add 1kg to cart and checkout to see 60% off.

  • Did what others did. 2KG beans + a gold tee for $51.60 total and free shipping. Great find!

  • +1

bought some of the Bloom Seasonal Espresso Blend to try it, and no matter what i do there's chanelling and also the crema is pretty much non existent

    • I had trouble dialing in Bloom. Eventually got there after a string of lousy shots. Not buying again. Roosevelt, Downtown and Sunset are easy to use with only minor fiddling with our grinder - so we'll stick with Roosevelt (and some Downtown as a variation).

  • Anyone had their order dispatched yet?

  • +1

Seems orders are taking a while to get dispatched. Hopefully not without beans for too long, this is always the risk when buying online vs local cafe.

    • One of the reasons I haven't ordered from them in a while is because during sales, they expect a lot of orders (which is fine), but then they take forever to process them. And instead of sending them out in the order they were received, it's like a lottery.

  • I find they take about 3 days to dispatch at normal times so my guess is expect longer time during sales due to increased volume. They are pretty slow, but coffee is nice.

  • Sunset and Roosevelt are also 60% off now.

  • Ordered the classic trio. Will have to look into freezing some of them.

Do you immediately open, portion, and freeze?

Or just keep at room temperature, open when you need it, then portion and freeze unused portions?

Or freeze until you need it, then open, portion, and freeze unused portions? I guess the beans are still in the degassing phase, do you need to do something about the valve?

    • I would suggest freezing them after first week and before the 3rd week. If you are NOT freezing them in vacuum and seal bags then you can do as early as possible. Otherwise, give at least ~1.5 weeks to let the beans degas little otherwise you will notice that some bags will not be able to retain the vacuum (not a big issue but good to manage expectations).

Edit - missed your other questions
      1. I would recommend freezing them as above in 250mg bags giving you an average of at least 10 cups.
      2. Leave the freezer bag out unopened until the beans reach room temperature to prevent condensation.

      • Thanks, may invest in a vacuum sealer.

Finally got dispatch email, so maybe they're reading ozbargain and see everyone getting cranky! - ordered 26 November, so basically a week. Hopefully they were swamped and playing catch up roasting as opposed to sending out beans roasted a couple weeks ago.

    • Update - "Shipped" on Monday - still not here (Brisbane) 5 days later. Think this might be the last time these guys get my money :(

      • Definitely this is the last time these guys get my money

        • Just got an email that the delivery has been delayed. Guess I will never learn from my previous mistakes and got suckered into buying some new beans I have not tried with them before.

  • the 60% seems to be gone?

  • Yeah they say "We roast to order and aim to have all orders roasted, packed and shipped within 48 hours of order receipt."

But in reality it was more like 4-5 business days to ship. For me took longer for them to ship than it was to deliver from VIC to QLD.

Ordered 26 Nov - regular shipping
Shipping info received by courier 28 Nov
Picked up by courier 2 Dec
    Received 5 Dec (metro Brisbane)

  • 26 Nov - ordered, reg shipping
29 Nov - shipping info received
3 Dec - parcel picked up
5 Dec - delivered to Syd.

    Roast date was 2 Dec.

    • Dec 6th order, Dec 6 roast date, arrived today (16th) via AusPost.
Got shorted ~70g on Downtown - check your weights people!

  • They sent mine Couriers Please and ETA not until Monday now. Pretty sure it said it was meant to come today a few days ago.
