Eureka Mignon Specialita 55 Black w/ Black Front €313.20 Delivered (~A$505) @ Espresso Coffee Shop

650

For those who bought the bambino on this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/879629) and are now in the market for a grinder.

This grinder has been on my radar for a while due to generally positive reviews and this price is pretty good compared to last year’s Black Friday offer.

However I’m still tossing up between this or df54. Help.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

                              • @david6509: Is that from the shop coffee store?
Congrats bro I'm hoping you enjoy it

                                • @maverickjohn: yep thats them, they did provide a matching white power lead but its not up to aussie code even though it will work (non insulated pins)

              • @david6509: Looking it up now and seems like turbo/vortex is for pour overs mainly and flat is espresso and pour overs

                • @EnergicAU: Ordered from Aliexpress link above and just used the cheapest freight service they had and i recieved it monday. Super quick delivery and product looks well built. Now to start grinding.

  • Been using this after upgrading from a breville smart grinder. Light years ahead of the breville. Used to get very inconsistent shots with the breville which has been fixed with the eureka.

I got a 3d printer and have printed a tilt base, raised platform as well as a larger cog dial which makes dialling in easier. Def look at this as the original dial is small and finicky

My routine is weighing a single dose, spray to prevent static, use the original hopper and dose into a shaker funnel cup and shake to distribute. Coffee goes into porta, leveller and a double press of a pressured tamper and then puck screen.

Using the original hopper with a spray ends up with me needing to push some beans through though.

I’m upgrading my machine soon so looking at changing the eureka as well to a timemore 064s instead.

I have the Eureka Mignon Manuale. Obviously the Specialita is a bit higher end. My thoughts:

    • Everything everyone has said is correct :)
    • This is a good price
    • Mignons are inherently not single dose grinders (altho retention is not terrible, you need to get aftermarket bellows etc)
    • The dial is awful. I have 3dprinted an excellent solution, but still… (also have a 3dprinted tilt solution)
    • Build quality of both is very good
    • Mignons are a bit more fiddly to take apart to clean than the DF54 (I believe)

    If I had my time again I would get a DF54 or a 64.

  • Is it worth spending a bit more and getting the Timemore Sculptor 064S for $879?

    • Dude just read a few comments above yours you can get it for $660 and yes it's worth it

      • Is the seller on Ali Express even legit? I can only see 8 feedbacks

        • Would also like to know this (if only to kick myself because I pulled the pin on a DF64 yesterday)

  • what is the consistency of the grind like on this grinder? are they worth it for espresso shots?

    • it's made for espresso. from what I've read the consistency is good.

    • Very good

  • Has anyone got the single dose kit? Keen to know your thoughts or if I should just buy similar one from etsy or amazon

  • Am looking through the Espresso Coffee Shop online store and there are some pretty decent prices for espresso machines compared to the prices in Australia. Anyone have experience with dealing with an espresso machine from them delivered to Australia? Do they come with an EU cable plug?

    • Yes comes with an EU plug. Got this on a deal 2 years ago at Christmas time. Great grinder. Just use an AU converter on the end. No issues

IMPORTANT: Every single one of the Specialitas will eventually break through the digital interface. This is a widely reported issue with no possible fix and no local servicing in Australia. What ends up happening is that single or double cup display will go to single digits. When yo ugrind it will start counting down from 45 seconds instead of the preset amount. On mine it has happened to the single cup setting.

As long as you are comfortable doing manual timings every time once this occurs, it is a great grinder aside from the previously mentioned retention issues/clogging etc.

Just flagging if you buy something from this site with a value over $1000 aud then you will get slugged with a $288 import fee, rookie error on my side but maybe help the next person
