~$87 cheaper than buying it local, make sure you change currency to USD before placing order.

*** Note ***

$334.79 is the price when using my 28 Degrees card with no conversion rate fees or international fees. Purchasing under AU currency comes to $347.10 including delivery.

You would still be better off purchasing under USD and paying the small conversion fee of $2 or $3 from your bank.

Just keep in mind that while Amazon may cover return shipping because they're awesome, it will take weeks and months to get it back if you do end up getting a bad unit that's either dead on arrival or dies shortly after.

    • +1

they will give you the option to dispatch another unit straight away, but they will charge you for the second unit if they have not received the faulty one within a certain time frame - that is the risk you take

  • +3

theres also an msi gtx 670 oc twin frozr for 385usd delivered, or about 350 using 28degrees

    better cooler, better value

  • Bloody nvidia…I cant even tell which one of their 6 series are kepler or rebranded 5 series. Half of them are just 5 series. So confusing

    • Haha those would be some of the lower end boards. The GTX 670 is definitely a proper Kepler chip!

    • I think the last re-branded 5 series is the 645. Could be wrong though.

  • The "change to USD" thing - this only beneficial for 28degrees cards yeah?

I really should get one… order off Amazon more than eBay now.

    • I would like to know this too? As I don't have a 28 degrees card will this end up significantly higher?

      • +1

No, there is an option to change to USD currency in checkout.

        • yes, but would changing to USD somehow benefit someone paying with a regular creditcard, or just those paying with 28degrees creditcard?

        • +3

Nah it'll still end up cheaper in most cases to charge in USD, as Amazon uses a higher exchange rate.

Example, Commonwealth debit card, amazon quoted $95AUD, it cost me $92AUD after conversion fees and whatnot using USD.

        • +1

Most credit cards charge about 2.95% for the international transaction fees.

Be aware it's not only the 28 degrees card that doesn't have international transaction fees. Many platinum cards do as well, you'll need to check with your bank.

        • Interesting, thank you.

        • +1

except platnum cards cost an arm and a leg to get in the first place

        • No they don't. I have a Bankwest Zero platinum card that costs me $0 annual fee. And I've never paid a cent of interest on it either. Plus with all the extra perks of it it's great :-)

  • Ok thanks, it ends up $352 more but will my bank then charge me conversion fees from ordering in US dollars like it usually does?
In that event ordering is AU dollars would be a better idea?

Edit - read the above note

Before I take the plunge a quick question from a noob, I was mad at missing the gigabyte hd7970 yesterday, would this ease my pain as a comparative option.

    • +2

Both cards give fairly similar performance. You cant go wrong with either one IMO.

      • +1

Nah, with the 12.11 Beta drivers, 7970 is more powerful than the 680 and the 7950 is a better match for the 670. But reference 7950s here are around $330 anyways so this is still a good price (though not too keen on Galaxy).

        • +2

          this^
          7970 smashes the 670 now.
Especially with the new drivers and better allocated memory usage

        • Oh darn, I'm cancelling my order now. I have the Gigabyte 7950 OC so don't want to order something with slight improvement.

        • AFAIK, the GB 7950 OC should overclock beyond the performance of the 670.

        • Yeah the 670 is a reference card so your 7950 should really outdo it…

        • Figures that I bought the 670 rather than the 7970 last month and then this happens.

        • -1

don't worry Nvidia always support their customers, that's part of the price you've paid. AMD card owners don't get nearly as much support hence the late update to drivers etc.

        • +1

If you have a 7950 OC, no card at the moment is going to be a giant boost. Next gen of AMD cards are out Q1 to Q2 next year.

        • Thanks so much for the help guys.

        • This is the GC version, which means that this is not a reference 670, rather this is one that has the pcb of a gtx 680, and is overclocked to gtx 680 standards.

          Pretty Good price

        • or pay $30 more and get an OC 670gtx

        • Are there recent reviews with benchmarks that support this claim?

    • Hell yeah! The GTX 670 is a mean beast. Should be able to play BF3, Far Cry 3 etc on high @ 1920x1080.

    • enough difference but it depends on monitors/resolution.

1080p, 60hz even a 660ti would do for most people on 99% of games.

Its worth nothing, there is the evga 670 for about $30 more. I think its the FTW or Superclocked version and its as fast as the reference gtx 680. Has 3 year international warranty as opposed to 1 from galaxy which isnt a great brand

  • Good price! … I ordered the same one at the same price a couple of weeks ago from Amazon….

    Funnily enough, it arrived today!

The 7970 DOES NOT smash anything Kepler. Look at the laughable stuttering issues:

    http://techreport.com/review/24022/does-the-radeon-hd-7950-s…

AMD drivers are rubbish. And really, why go for second best? Nothing like a 680 nestled in your slot.

    • +1

That article shows the 7950, not the 7970.

      -Edit-
Also if its the best you are after, Nvidia has released the 690:

    • +1

Micro-stutter in cross-fire and now single card configs as well? AMD has really dropped the ball on this one

      • I run Xfire 7950's, no stutter - and thats with the cheap Powercolour ones. Planetside 2 looks awesome on 3x24" screens as does BF3 :)

        • +2

Last time I saw it was on a pair of Asus 5970's. The issue had nothing to do with cheap cards especially since most reference cards are pumped out the same factories with each vendors sticker stuck on top.

    • +1

Proportion, blown out it is. Driver issue, which will likely be addressed in the next set of beta's given that it's only an issue with queue sizes.

      http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2289641

TR dropped the ball on that report TBH, far from their usual standard.

"Does the Radeon HD 7950 stumble in Windows 8?" WINDOWS 8… There's around 1% using Windows 8 and people already know it's not good for gaming, I know I won't be switching until things are more stable, like I did with Windows 7 (Vista on the other hand was never stable…).
The stutter is hardly noticeable on most games in Win 7 except the one's Nvidia pays to put it's "optimizations" into…

  • Good deal but I would prefer an ASUS card and pay the extra. They are much quieter. Too bad Amazon don't deliver the ASUS 670 here.

  • Am I better off buying this or a 7970 (factoring in the price)? I seriously have next to no idea what GPU is best bang-for-buck or even which edition is best (FTW? OC? reference card?).

    • Most reviews suggest GTX 670. But it depends which games you play. Some games are optimized for AMD cards but it seems more games are optimized for NVIDIA cards. The OC versions are slightly faster—10% faster maybe. I would recommend an OC version with a quiet cooler, eg, the ASUS 670 GTX DirectCU II is one of the better and quiet OC products but I think they are still around $450.

  • MWave has the Galaxy GeForce GTX 670 for $385 including free postage until 18/12/12

    http://www.mwave.com.au/product/sku-aa77593-galaxy_geforce_g…

    • This is just a reference 670 at normal price though.

  • How are the returns on stuff like this through Amazon? Does Amazon handle it or the reseller Amazon contracts? Cause I'm tempted to import my next video card - one of the few parts which seems to be a rip off here (SSD's, CPU, HDD seem to be damn near fair priced now)
