Upgraded the firmware on my blackvue dashcam, which then bricked the camera. Tried a number of things to resolve it, best i got it to run but it would randomly restart every 10 minutes or so. Now it just doesn't turn on.

Their support was terrible, pretty much asked what micro sd card i was using, and because the answer was not their own branded one, they insisted that must be the problem. Refused to help past that.
They aren't worth the cost IMO. The app is styled in a way to offer limited functionality for those not paying for a subscription and the image quality can be had for cameras a quarter the price.

    • Good to know, what’s the general consensus around brands? Viofo seams to get a mention a bit. I’ve just bought a Volvo XC60 PHEV so anyone with a recommendation for that car would be great.

    • The Blackvue dashcams are definitely overrated, but their support has always been good from my experience.

It's also better to mention that only the cloud features are limited without subscription (which I daresay most people don't actually use).

    • Suggest you keep pushing their support and, depending on when the item was purchased, consider citing your rights under ACL. I had this EXACT SAME ISSUE where my camera died shortly after their standard 2 year warranty timeframe and I knew this was unreasonable life for a near $1k dual channel dashcam, I respectfully pressured them to issue a replacement or repair the unit. We obviously went through the usual troubleshooting hoops, including redownloading previous firmware with no success. Finally, they caved, issued a paid return post label and repaired my unit and it’s all working again. Will definitely be considering a different brand once I decide to either sell the car or change dashcams in the future.

      Hope this helps.

Same thing happened to me. The dashcam died not long after the 2yrs. Once again, they kept asking about what sd card, etc. I was sent through so many hoops by repco and blackvue. It was actually so stressful. In the end, i pressured them to provide me with a new dashcam (since my one was no longer sold instore and supersceded), and they did. Blackvue advised repco to do it in the end. This was not without a fight. I also probably would not buy another blackvue after this one dies based off the last experience. The new one also seems to not switch on all of the time.. especially if it is hot. I can be driving for a few mins before the dashcam boots up and i dont relised it until it talks and says "blackvue for your safe driving". So yeah, not the most recommended on my end.. however, i have been able to provide somebody with evidence after they were involved in a collision in front of me with another car.

    • That's a shame, I am still running 2 x 6 year old DR750S-2CH and and 2 x 5 year old DR900S-2CHs still without issues. Considering the cost of the dashcam, you'd expect far better support.

Yes they are picky with which SD card but I run Samsung Pro Endurance cards without an issue and it was included in a link on their website as acceptable.

I note since that they say they now only recommend their own SD cards with their latest dashcams which would make this extremely expensive…
