This is what I use (or sometimes UTM) however I know there are some people who find Parallels a bit more 'hold my hand, this is scary'.

I have a pro subscription for Parallels, it just seems to upgrade for free?
I use it over the other options because I kept reading that it was the fastest option. I use windows CAD software on my MacBook pro. So I need the most performance.
A pro subscription is $169 a year, I wouldn't call that free.
As with most saas products the yearly subscription gets you the latest version.It would be pretty easy to test UTM and VMware and see if you notice a difference in performance.

Or you could use fusion which is now free for personal use.
I stopped using parallels ages ago after too many paid upgrades. The fact they are now up to major version 20 says a lot about their pricing and upgrade strategy.
