@Hangryuman: Yes, Suzuki is a lot similar to a start stop engine but the only difference is, it actually has a smallish battery in addition to the standard auxiliary battery (hence they call those hybrids). Despite this, this battery and the electric motor is so tiny, it can only do so much so it's hardly differ from a start stop engine, I find it's annoying too. Toyota hybrids are much more smoother and seamless. If you are a laid-back driver, you won't even notice electric to engine transition as it's so smooth. I find my corolla cross does even 60 km/h purely on electric motor (not always, it depends on how you handle the acceleration). But if I put the foot down, then the engine kicks in quickly (still smooth transition but you can definitely hear the engine sound so not as quite as an electric car). I feel for EV owners, despite extremely smooth motors (which I absolutely loved) they have to deal with massive depreciation costs. Understandably they have plenty of time to troll while charging their vehicles as well which is a plus😂 lol.

        • Lexus made some with a V6. They're properly quick, not to mention quiet as well.

          • @JIMB0: Last time I checked Lexus V6 hybrids are not that quick. V6 doesn't mean quick but it does mean more powerful.
            Lexus V6 Hybrid (450H) 0 to 100 = 7.7 S
            Corolla cross 2.0 four cylinder hybrid = 7.6 S
But I bet Lexus is much more quiet, comfortable, smooth, stable on corners (as it's much heavier car) and luxurious (just not as quick).

            • @npnp: You need to check your figures.

    2005 Swift - 15x5.5 steel wheels, 1.5L engine
    2024 Swift - 15x5.0 steel wheels, 1.2L engine

Show me where's the progress? 20 years later and narrower wheels and smaller engine lol

    • +7

Doesn’t that show they are getting more efficient and powerful with less engine? It is progress.

      • -1

It's less powerful than the 2005 Swift. And still has rear drum brakes lol

        • +6

Small cars are fine with rear drums.

        • +3

Drum brakes are fine on a light weight, low power vehicle.

        • The 2024 model weighs less than the 2005 model (surprise surprise) and therefore has a better power to weight ratio. Which means it will be faster off the line and will stop sooner than the older model, all while using less fuel. That counts as progress in my books.

I bet you loooove the 6.8L V8 commodore RR super limited redneck edition, the epitome of "progress" which something like an A45 AMGs with a tiny engine will leave for dead off the mark.

          • @CocaKoala: The old one weighs 12% more, however it has 21% more power so the new one still won't be faster off the line, and has a worse power/weight ratio.

            • @Mr Bob Dobalina: Looks like with that 21% more power it musters up a paltry 1.x second lead over the 2024 model on a 0 to 100 run. But bring in the 2024 sport and it's game over as it's got a smaller engine as well but with a turbo and will do a 7.x run to the 100, beating the old coot by a decent margin. If power is all that matters then just get the sport version?

Don't be ridiculous. That's like saying gear boxes are still 5 gears, phone cameras are still 12MP, typical RAM is still 16GB…

I don't know much about Swifts but you get a lot more car for the same model 20 years later. Just the fuel consumption has halved, not to mention the safety, entertainment (CarPlay) features, etc - all vastly improved.

      • Phone cameras in 2005 were 12MP??

        • +3

          Yes even Nokia 3210

        • Nokia had 808 in 2012 which had a massive 41 MP sensor. I don't believe any phone manufacturer produced a better /larger sensor camera phone compared to that (yet).

I'd prefer no fuss reliability which Suzuki tend to produce with their engines.

There's something special about companies that also produce motorbikes, they know how to make a reliable engine.

      Honda
      Suzuki
      BMW

  • No love for northern nsw & qld.
Why Suzuki? why ? Some sort of franchise licensing agreement there?

    • +3

There would be nothing stopping you from purchasing elsewhere and they'd be able to organise QLD rego etc.

Does the VW Golf Diesel 2.0 have a DPF and requires AdBlue (DEF) for its SCR system?

    • +3

Knee slapper, almost had me at German (over)engineering.

    • +6

VW Golf are fantastic to drive but when it breakdown the car cost a fortune to repair.

      • Have you ever seen a broken-down VW, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Skoda, Seat or Opel, Man, Hanomag, Henschel, Leopard on roads?

        • +2

          Yes. Several actually

        • Yep!

          • @Thayer: Himm, Don't lie folks! LOL. You live in a different planet?

        • Yep seen several European car broke down on the side of road. Most of them were Mercedes, badge show off with unreliable cars.

        • +3

As someone who spent $1,900 to replace the thermostat on his Audi yesterday, you're dreaming about their reliability.
Great cars, but the cost of maintenance is insane.

          • @pauly85: I spent maybe 3% of that to replace the thermostat in my Suzuki.

            • @mapax: Yeah it's a bit of a joke.
The whole thermostat, water pump and reservoir is one assembly so you have to replace the whole thing, and they're a very common point of failure.

I love my S3 but I'm honestly considering selling it and getting something like a Swift.

  • I can't find the difference between Swift Hybrid Auto and Swift Sport in the descriptions. I copied and pasted all the features in excel and they are exactly the same. In fact, even the Hybrid GLX has pretty much the same features as the other two.

    • U think so it may be only the extras in modification for sports model, same engine.

  • If I understand it correctly this Swift Hybrid didn't save petrol a lot like the other hybrid car.

    • I feel like you should compare the actual fuel consumption of the cars you're considering, and not worry too much about how it's achieved.

The Swift has a tiny efficient engine and is very light, so even though it's only a mild hybrid its fuel usage is very competitive.

  • Which of these swift is a SUV?

    • Are you ok?

    • The Ignis.

    • Vitari and Cross

  • +2

    Not a real hybrid

  • All Suzuki cars should be 30% off…RRP

  • susu ki

  • a joke calling the swift a Hybrid, having driven a hybrid for 10 years I can tell you that you appreciate the power of the electric motors

  • +3

The Swift Hybrid Manual at $22,041 is an exceptional deal. I see 10-12yrs old suzukis going for around $10-$15k. Better off paying extra and getting new.

  • +2

+1 for that promo picture on their landing page, lol

  • -2

that vitara automatic at 32K, seriously.. who's gonna pay that much for an outadted car. 26K was the right place for it competing against ASX

    • +1

I think you’re looking at the vitara turbo, which compared to the asx, the turbo and 6 speed torque converter is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the running gear in the ASX. I had a lancer which shares the same running train, in the lancer it wasn’t great, drove an asx once, absolutely terrible. CVT is weak and 2.0 isn’t enough, even the 2.4 felt not great.

  • They take cash or card?

  • Planning to get one - does any one have any recommendations on whether there is room to negotiate on the price even further? Or will the dealer be adamant given that suzuki are taking 10% off.

    • I highly doubt a dealer will negotiate with the 10% off. Just ask for them to chuck in some floor mats!

      • I had a few extras chucked in. Matts, weather shields, less a few hundred to seal the deal.

Bought Jimny xl though so mileage might vary if cheaper cars.

        • Nice

  • Just have a chance to rent a Vitara during my Subaru repair, it is heavy and not enough power.

    • guessing you had the non-turbo one.

      • I think so

        • Makes sense, the turbo model is far superior and genuinely good to drive.
