20% off Herman Miller Aeron Remastered Graphite with Fully Adjustable Arms $1908 + Delivery ($0 SYD Pickup) @ Living Edge

2130
VIPBF

The chair is listed for $2,385 but a 20% discount applicable by chatting through live chat.
The agent said that it is a Black Friday discount but it is not advertised on their website.

Update: The discount code is VIPBF (thanks to user lordrupertliverpool)

I wanted one of these chairs as I have been working and studying from home over the past 10 months and I'm starting to get bad lower back pain.

I have been keeping my eye on the second hand Herman Miller market but they don't come up often in SA and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. e.g. Someone wanting $2100 for a 3 year old chair, someone wanting $900 for a 18 year old chair, someone wanting $500 for a broken chair where the levers and adjustments don't work. I have seen a few Sahls come up for $500 but I really wanted the Mirra or Aeron as they are specifically recommended for their lower back support, which is what I need.

If you are purchasing yours for work / working from home it would be worth chatting to your boss to see if they would be willing to trat it as a fringe benefit. As mine is for work and study, it is Fringe Benefits Tax exempt, so my boss was happy to buy it for me as a fringe benefit meaning she can claim back the GST and pass that discount onto me, as well as me being able to pay for it with my pre tax income, so it basically brings the cost down to $1,988 - 180.72 GST = $1,807.28 - 32.5% (tax) = $1,219.91 post tax equivalent. The benefit of doing it as a fringe benefit would be that you can claim back the GST and you get the tax saving benefit immediately compared to buying it and claiming it as a tax deduction which will need to be depreciated over its useful life instead of getting the whole benefit in the year of purchase.

I didnt ask if the 20% off promotion was only for the Aeron but I would guess that it could be across their whole range.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

  • I tried one out and it was horrible for posture and every time you moved it would wobble, creak and crack. Never again. Will stick to my $200 officeworks chair

      Well done

    • +1

I have had mine for a year now, no wobbling (unless you mean the recline?) and only a little creaking from the "pixelated support" plastic at the back, which most online reviews mention. I dont find it bad for posture either, It forces you to sit up and not slouch. My ergohuman i had previously was extremely comfortable, but crap for posture, cuz i always tended to slouch in it.
This just goes to show how important it is to try a chair before you buy, because what is right for one person might be total crap for another.

Bought mine for $990 brand new in 2012 and even then it felt overpriced. That being said, it's easily the best investment I ever made. Still running 12 years later full time work from home, have had to have a few hip joints replaced under warranty but other than that it's been rock solid and frankly it's ruined going into the office for me because their office chairs are so shit compared to this heavenly cloud.

  • It’s a great chair (paid $1450 for mine back in 2020) but there are definitely comparable options for much cheaper if you are on a budget.

I actually think the steelcase leap might be better, and some of the haworth chairs are insanely comfortable.

Great deal, upvoting. After battling years with cheap chairs that would give me back grief and all eventually start creaking (which drove me just as insane as the back pain), I caved 18 months ago and bought an Aeron from Living Edge (probably full price, too). Never looked back. I work from home, and it just makes sense.

    Shoes, mattress, office chair.

  • Are the arms removable and if I don't really want the arms should I just get it with arms and then sell them on eBay or something? There's only $15 in the price difference

  • +1

Paid $1200 for a Steelcase Gesture. If I had my time again would just buy a $750 chair or go to Leap V2

    • +1

It really depends on the person. I was after another chair so decided to try the Steelcase Gesture as a friend had one and was really happy with it.

I found the foam too firm and uncomfortable. My butt would be sore after a few hours, it felt like I was sitting on an airplane seat. I kept using it for a week and returned it when it didn't work for me.

The armrests were really nice though.

      • I purchased the leap, used it for a week but didn’t really like the recline and aggressive lumber. Took the lumber pad out and that made a difference but then returned it and got the gesture.

I have had the gesture for about 6 months and it’s ok but I would take the Leap back in a heartbeat.

  • iif you are heavy will this chair be fine? I'm not sure what size to pick? and does the edges dig into your thighs?

    • Up to 110kg easy. If you're big, the big size.

  • What's the cost of materials for one of these?

Combined with labour to put it all together, it has to be 80-90% profit.

Surprised other companies haven't replicated most of it and sold for a much lower price.

    • Wait till you find out about the pharmaceutical industry!

    • +1

If they don't inflate the cost, how will they get their bonuses?

MillerKnoll CEO Andi Owen has been caught on camera berating workers asking about bonuses - after she received over $1 million on top of her inflated salary last year.

In the leaked video, which has been widely circulated online, Owen told staffers via Zoom to 'leave pity city' and stop 'thinking about what you’re going to do if you don’t get a bonus'.

    • Good marketplace for some Chinese companies to copy and undercut this company.

      • The company make this brand also make "Aeron2" that only sold in China which cost around 500-600 AUD,thats why many grey stock selling it for $1200-1300 brand new with no warranty in Aus,and called Living Edge they are selling Chinese made ones so make no difference

    • Surprised other companies haven't replicated most of it and sold for a much lower price.

Maybe it's not as simple as you think then.

    • there are a huge amount of replica's, the majority of which fall apart as they don't have the parts quality or the design behind them. Go look on amazon or Ali express. Just don't expect what you order to last.

Got Embody and never looked elsewhere, and my waist thanked me a whole lot.

  • Obviously doing this 'deal' cos no one was wanting to pay the 3000+ or whatever crazy shit they had.

  • You can pick up Herman Miller chairs from https://aussiechair.com/collections/all for less than this any day of the year, I bought mine from them earlier this year and was very happy with the responsiveness and help from Kevin the guy running the store.

Aeron Chair - Graphite (No Warrranty)
    Regular price$1,699.00 AUD

Aeron Chair - Graphite (12 Year Warranty)
    Regular price$1,999.00 AUD

    • how do we try them?

    • I'd prefer one with a warranty, I bought mine new from living edge new in March 2021, and I lodged a warranty claim in May 2021 for a new gas lift (from the very beginning it was not always staying where it should) - and same for one of the armrests.

Originally when I made the claim I thought (as annoying as it would be) that I would have to take it to them. Instead, despite living about 1.25hrs away from Richmond, someone came out to my place to do it all.

Every Aussie Chair product comes with a robust 12-year 3-shift warranty provided by Aussie Chair Pty Ltd. We keep all necessary replacement parts in our warehouse, ensuring that any warranty claims are handled swiftly and efficiently.

Not sure how they would compare vs the service I got.

  • A bargain chair only for people who are not worried about the current cost of living issue.

  • Regarding the FBT comment, the information OP provided I would be wary of, as strict interpretation of the FBT exemption I'm assuming they are relying on (otherwise deductible rule) doesn't apply to depreciable items. The on-premises property FBT exemption also does not apply if used at home vs work. There's an argument that WFH is part of the employer's business premises but this has been rejected by the ATO.

    Wtf, is it diamond encrusted?

    • +1

If you don’t know you don’t know.

      • -5

        Don't worry, I'm fully aware it's a ripoff

  • Really disappointed the embody chairs haven't come up on sale here thus far (at least not that I can fine). Whereas in the US they are 25% off for black friday at the moment, been holding out hoping to snag a new one this black friday.

    • The code works for 20% off the embody gaming, Unsure about the normal embody tho.

      • yeah I noticed that after posting too, not as good a discount as in the US but might be enough to pull trigger

  • is that good for smaller people ??

i bought this for my sister but the seat is a bit deep and min.height is too high — her feet cant lay flat on the floor

  • You’ll want to be sitting down when you hear about this bargain!

  • Thanks for the write up OP.

Literally because of this post, I opened up FB marketplace and bought a used 2012 Aeron last night for $700.

    Fantastic condition for its age.

So far 8/10 comfort as I'm still getting used to it, it's definitely not giving me any opportunities to slouch and sit like a potato no more, which is that missing 2/10 ;)

    • remastered was released in 2016 but enjoy

      • Ah sorry for leaving out some details.

It was a 2012 aeron classic (non remastered).

        • Nice buy. I've been looking in Adelaide for the past 6 months while my back has been detreating.
Unfortunately they don't come up for sale on the second hand market that often, here but I would have been more than happy with a $700 12 year old chair.

  • Keep an eye on their warehouse sale in Alexandria, bought mine 13xx only

Make sure you check Herman Millers list of authorised dealers before purchasing: https://www.hermanmiller.com/en_au/where-to-buy/

Some people here are recommending unauthorised dealers, where warranty would not be honored.

That being said, Living Edge is legit.

  • back to office next year so i will skip

Ordered the Mineral one! Never thought about spending over $2,000 on a chair!

I hope it is well worth it and upgrade from my $250 IKEA chair.

  • thanks, bought a mineral one

  • i want this chair but i dont know what size, not sure what to do. no showrooms near me.

  • I just tested both chairs, and all I can say I prefer Mirra chair over Aeron. I am 110kg / 185cm tall. I felt Aeron size C was a bit too big and I felt as if I could be tempted to skew my body on the side a bit, it had a bit too much room, size B was better more sung. However I felt that both C and B had the back mesh which was not supportive (enough) of the back especially the middle back. Mirra is perfect because it has that butterfly mechanism which keeps the spine straight / upright. So Mirra for me.

  • I'm amazed people are paying these prices, there are thousands coming out of office blocks and being flogged off over the last few years….look at some of the ex-gov furniture sites, you can pick up some great chairs and sit stand desks. Aerons, Formway, dauphin lordo…all qualities and price ranges.

    • I'm not surprised… there are plenty of used goods on fb marketplace/gumtree/carsales for a fraction of the original cost but people still buy things brand-new. This would be no different?

    • Can you share some ex-gov furniture sites for nsw please

  • I got a floor model C in Graphite (the cheapest) for 1822 at a showroom sale earlier this year.

Kills me to know my previous one was $1200, but that was also in 2009 …. this is some of the cheapest i have seen for new since then.
