ooh thanks for sharing op! how much is cashback these days? i thought they usually excludes phones
holyshit the legend has responded. thanks boss
Was going to comment that 1.8 is a lot for a last gen phone but then checked and saw that the 16 PM 512gb config cost a staggering 2499…
crazy world. last time i paid for a brand new iphone was back in January '18 for a 8 Plus 256gb and that was 1.5k. 6 years and now its 1k extra (and considering 256 was the max at the time whereas going for that max 1tb now will set me back an extra 350$ on top)
laptops in the meantime havent moved a bit? i paid for a 1060 rig back then for ~2k (and there wasnt a sale on), thats about the price for a 'good quality' 4060 laptop now w/o a sale.
yeah waiting until new iphones start to be come 3k lol
They could make then 5K and would still sell well
iCult iPay. System justification - if it's expensive it must be (NO) good (for your life balance/holidays ;)
@taki: No spec sheet for your S23 Ultra this time or is that still coming?
“Well” is subjective. At 5k, it would definitely force more people across to Android.
Apple will still make a ton of money, but likely less than the current balance. The idea is to sell both in high price and high volume. It’s not common to do so in any market.
No wonder why iPhones hold their value for so long. They just don’t make any low-end iPhones that kill the value of high-end ones.
They do, you can buy an iPhone 16 128GB with a 6.3" screen and an a high refresh 60Hz screen for only $1400.
High end price, low end specs.
@Aureus: The only thing low-end about this phone is the 60Hz refresh rate.
Lower-priced phones have a 90hz or even 120hz refresh rate, but have subpar battery, cameras or even the SoC.
it still is a lot for a last gen phone, tbf. this pricing has just become acceptable for some reason
Can’t really compare to the iPhone 8 (need to compare to X which was the flagship at the time) - iPhone prices were already quite out of control by then. Doesn’t help that AUD has been weakening over time as well
Thanks OP - Tempted to finally upgrade, but by 12 mini is still going strong :p
i got an iphone 11 pro and before that iphone 4 so I try to hold out until 7 versions so that means im waiting for iphone 18 lol
so need to wait till 2026? lolTheory is it gets updates until 2027 so stick with it if you can.
I switched to a 13 pro from a 12 mini at the start of the year and don’t regret it, because I was about $300 out of pocket. Battery life and camera is so much better.
My plan going forward is doing the best upgrade for minimum dollars. There’s usually a sweet spot in there somewhere to trade up. I just wish my work did salary sacrificing of phones! I’d get a brand new one every year and sell the old one.
Geek-bench extreme and wildlife extreme scores are better on iphone 16 base model even compared to iphone 15 pro max! So, don’t buy an old model this year!
what if im just using if for text and phone calls?
Nokia 5110 should be fine.
Even after the 2G shutdown?
@ihfree: There's a newer version.
@Trishool: Noice, haven't seen that. Aware of the modern 8210, 3210.
Geekbench scores are a wild reason to neg, this phone having a 120Hz screen is going to be a hell of a lot more noticeable than the slightly better SoC on the 16
Not a valid reason to neg this deal.
Can the base iphone 16 record ProRes & to an external SSD?
How are other aspects such as screen and camera?
This is all a ploy to sell you the latest phone.
You dont need an iphone unless you have like a big business to deal or community groups to deal on Imessage, and i think Whatsapp does a pretty good job for that.
iPhones are great compared to most android phones. They can last over 3 years without feeling "slow" and updates for a long time.
Androids now updated for more years Pixel, Samsung,… & they are more capable with AI 2y + back, unlike iPhones that have insufficient RAM to handle it (they were proud of saving cost but not is the payoff time ;)
5y old Galaxy Note 10+, still great on original battery & fat with ~500 apps on it. Apple is the best in marketing ;)Sounds like user error.
Phones from the past 5 years should have no issues with slowing down. Maybe cheaper phones might have issues. You could probably go back even further - my Note 3 still feels reasonably performant with custom firmware.
I've seen iPhones completely full with awful performance due to user error.
I haven't really experienced slow down on any of my devices - MacOS, Windows, iOS or Android.
My parents can’t really use Android. Tried them out of various Android including Pixels but they couldn’t get used to all the functions.
Given we give our old phones to them, we ended up changing to iPhones just so they can use a phone they are used to.
Wow, this spanks Costco's current deal for $2289.99
https://www.costco.com.au/Electronics/Mobile-Phones/iPhones/…
It's not hard to beat Costco prices to be fair. Even supermarkets are way cheaper when they are half price, and most prices are comparable at little to no discount. Costco is really not that special for the average punter who doesn't need to drive a Tarago or a Carnival.
Costco has their sale tomorrow on iPhone 15 Pro Max and other apple products.
Or if you have health insurance, energy plans or a work rewards program, you could find discounted amazon gift cards for a much better deal than the lame non-amazon product cashback rates. I can get 4% off amazon giftcards.
If you don't have access to any of those programs it is very easy to sign up to Macquarie Bank.
Their gift card portal allows immediate purchase of up to $2k gift cards at 3.5% off.Makes the price $1773.67
I think as long as you load the gift cards to your Amazon balance, you’re still eligible for cashbacks?
$1670 after TRS refund. Thanks op!
Can't you only claim up to like $900 for TRS refund? Or is that only if you return with the item?
I think cloudie is going with partner and kid/s so might allow even more
Thats what I initially thought too, in fact me and my partner both got new Phones but they were $1800+ so thought they were ineligible.
But on second guess I think it only matters if you intend to bring the item back with you
only if you return with the item.
I thought they talk about depreciation as well but the information on depreciation with returning travellers for TRS but not really sure how it works.I am going overseas and gift it to my mom. So its not returning to Oz.
Nice one, just in case the government are tracking what you say here. ;)
So to confirm you were able to claim the whole gst refund by yourself? no need to have 2 more family members with you?
@Brick50: Of course, done numerous times, to claim GST refund, your tax invoice must be your name (that are travelling overseas). Read up here… https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/touris…
Can you price match at JB?
they dont have stock
Oh wait for the 16Pro deal then
I bought the iPhone 16 Pro Max and did not find it much of a difference with my previous iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is a great deal
You selling your old iPhone?? ;)
Off Topic. Is the larger screen of the iPhone 16 plus a significant enhancement for viewing Powerpoint presentations via Microsoft Teams meeting over a regular iPhone 16?
I have a iPhone XS 64GB and toying with this or a 16 Pro with 256GB.
Been capped for storage space for awhile.
Thoughts from those who update yearly? Is the 16 any/much better than a 15?
What do you prioritise in a smartphone?
- handset size ?
- screen size? 6.3" vs 6.7"
- cost $$$?
- storage ? Will 256GB be enough for next 3-5 years?
- SoC ? A17pro vs A18pro
- software support?Do you upgrade yearly or biennially? I would sway towards 15pm
If you keep phones for as long as possible, 16P would be my pick.
The ONLY benefit of the new A18 & M4 chips are they use the newer ArmV9.2b instruction set at last; where as everything before this, going back to the move from Intel is V8. Longevity get the new chip if you only do upgrades every serious product jump! Also my base A17 on the iPhone15 wont get apple intelligence.
I have ai - just not from apple
Differences (AI) between iPhone 15 and 16 pro max…
The iPhone 16 Pro Max offers enhanced on-device AI capabilities compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max,
notably processing advanced features like Apple Intelligence, Visual Intelligence, and real-time language translation locally, which the iPhone 15 Pro Max cannot handle without cloud assistance. Additionally,
the iPhone 16 Pro Max introduces a Camera Control Button and Advanced Depth Mapping, further extending its local AI processing capabilities beyond those of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple intelligence will come to lower iPhones as its already been shown to work with a hack & the camera button is nice but everyone says it's on the wrong place!
Yes all true, I guess the addition, albeit not always a big deal, is that iPhone 16 can process more locally than iPhone 15.
Is the cashback capped?
Back to original price already?
The 1TB is now 2.3k in blue titanium
Will this deal be available again =-(. Missed out.
I'm an Amazon noob.. how do you know if it is Australian stock or not?
