  • Seems a lot of the other routers are also on sale AX11000 and AX16000

    I almost pulled the trigger..

I've spent the day looking for a Merlin or DD-WRT compatible router..
Then I saw this post that updated that 2 more routers were supported in the most recent merlin builds.
    https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/issues/529

    TUF-AX3000 v2 - 🔥 New!
    RT-AX58U v2 - 🔥 New

Office works have the ax58uv2 for $199 as a Black Friday Deal… (where are my car keys!)

  • I'm after a one with long range ability which ones mentioned above are the most powerful ignoring the CPU/ram

    • I feel like i'm splitting hairs I'm not certain… All i know is it's not a mediatek device which lots of people struggle with..

  • cheers, time to get another and set up a mesh network. i couldn't limit bandwidth on my orbi satellites, every other device slowed to a crawl when i downloaded games on steam 👎

  • Couple of months ago, Asus has launched new set of routers that support Wifi 7 802.11BE standard like ASUS RT-BE92U, RT-BE58U.
Is there a chance that these AX router can get more cheaper?
Also not sure if I should buy this or wait for models with wifi 7…

  • The TPlink with wifi 7 is better deal

I have this router and have struggled with WIFI clients being dropped without seemingly any cause. I'm not alone, a cursory search will show a lot of results of the same for the AX86u and recommendations to turn of universal beamforming and a lot of other ideas, none of which have worked.

I'm currently running a 3 year old firmware to see if that makes a difference.

It's a good router when it is working but I wouldn't recommend it based on the WIFI client dropping.

    • I'm running this with Merlin FW and it's rock solid.

But I also had similar issues when setting up, mostly with IoT devices that didn't like some of the newer protocols.

What helped for me was switching off Smart Connect

Then switching off these options on the 2.4 GHz band
      * 802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode
      * WiFi Agile Multiband

And now all devices are happy.

Maybe that will help you, or someone else.

    • I've had mine for 18 months now and never had a single Wifi dropout on all devices. Using latest stock firmware and predominantly 5ghz band.
Could be interference from other access points? Have you tried changing the control channels? Also yes turn off Smart Connect

    • install Merlin and see if that helps its easy to do look up online

  • Can 100% vouch for this unit. Never missed a bit since I got it probably an year or so ago. Solid buy at this price!

  • This or this, TP-Link AX3000 Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Router, 512MB RAM, 160MHz, 4High Power FEM, USB3.0 Port, HomeShield Security, OneMesh Supported, Work with Alexa, Gaming & Streaming, Smart Home (Archer AX55) https://amzn.asia/d/8GQMUvM

    ?

  • This thing is a beast - good balance between performance, price, and configuration.

A single unit covers my house and out to the street lol
Tempted to buy a second at this price but total overkill :)

    • Where do you live again? 😎

  • After moving from this to the GL.net Flint 2 for $200 on sale, I have no idea how Asus can get away charging $300+ for this even on sale.

The Flint 2 coverage and speed is miles ahead of this Asus. I can literally walk down my street and still get coverage.

  • Still expensive I wouldn't touch Asus unless around $250 mark. Also if you got AiMesh you would have to change every unit to be Wifi 6 and that's a very expensive excerise. You can see why people switch to TP-Link Deco or Amazon ones

The Aussie tax is real, we should just import routers from China

    Finally bought this router!
After using 10% off amazon gift card and 30$ topcashback, the effective price is 270$.

I would have bought flint 2, but we needed something which does not need monthly subscription/fees for services like parental control. Flint 2 - Bark 2 subsciption cost was turning out expensive in long term. So Asus was natural choice.
