How do they verify if the ticket buyer is a QLD & Northern NSW resident?

    • +1

They generally use the postcode from your driver's licence

    Obligatory (profanity) Dreamworld.

Tax payers' money was given to this piece of shit company for koala research and they instead ended up spending it on a new roller coaster.

The redirected tax payer money also almost completely covered the fine the park received for killing those poor people. So the park essentially never received any tangible punishment.

Absolutely disgusting. How anyone can continue to support them is beyond me.

Dreamworld rollercoaster was built with $2.7m tagged for koala research, government says

To the clowns voting down, how about you stop hiding behind anonymous votes and explain how you can defend a company that used tax payers money to almost negate a fine they recieved for litterially killing people.

It's not a great look, but my quick 2c.

Compared to what it actually costs to build a rollercoaster, that's not really a whole lot of funds I don't believe.

Dreamworld employs a lot of people to the local economy, money could be worse spent I suppose.

It's also one of the only "Australian" theme parks. Everything else has been influenced incredibly by American theme park culture (brand deals, lots of hollywood IP etc)

So keeping it alive, isn't all bad.

Concerning thing I see is they are spending 55m for new things to the park and no mention of the koala park.

If I was a journo, probably a good story here…

Letting companies get away with negligent man slaughter simply because it's good for the economy is some real dystopian capitalism shit.

Not really, they have a long history with incorporating US brands into the park; Nickelodeon, DreamWorks etc.

As previously mentioned when you've raised this point before it was the government that decided those funds could be used to help build the new coaster post covid.

"The Queensland government approved that the funding previously approved for the research facility be repurposed to support the construction of the new ride, taking into consideration the immediate impacts of the pandemic and the appeal of new tourism offers likely to attract returning domestic visitors and international tourists when borders reopened"

If they never originally planned the koala lab, it's quite possible they could have received similar funding regardless as many SEQ tourism attractions did. Dreamworld advocated to use the funds the best way they felt to drive visitation, just like any other business would.

I will continue to visit and support a company that has a whole new management and culture since 2016 and is a large local employer.

Big businesses have the resources to lobby governments. Doesn't make it ethical.

          • @PainToad: They certainly do. Doesn’t make it inherently unethical either.

They're probably right that keeping gold coast as a theme park destination is great for qld tourism

How much consumption discount in skypoint ?

    • Huh?

      • I think they meant how much discount on food @skypoint?

        • yes, food drink or other consumption

      • -1

        sorry for not clear

    • +2

10% Discount on Food/Drinks at Skypoint with this pass.

      • Thanks bro!

  • Are there going to be any black Friday sales on the yearly pass for movie world/Sea world / wet and wild? Not sure if I should hold out

    • Well we're not likely to get a repeat of the $50 passes from January that much is certain!

    • Doesn't look like they are doing any for yearly passes, see https://themeparks.com.au/black-friday

I also got an email from them yesterday that said "But hurry – prices are set to rise soon. Lock in this year’s rate and beat the price rise on 10 DECEMBER 2024."

    I'll never go to Dreamworld.

They use to be great in the 90s.

I recommend this video which explains their downfall https://youtu.be/vaSVda3aYTw

This video specifically on the Wiggles ride is also a great watch.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmWCAujwbrE

        • When the steam boat became a stationary red Wiggles boat was the point I knew Dreamworld was done and wouldn't pull out of their spiral down the toilet.

          • -2

@PainToad: The Steam Boat never became a stationary Wiggles Boat, not sure what you're on about.

The colour scheme (while it was still operating) was changed to better suit the area as it was Wiggles but it was never branded as such.

        • That was incredible.

      • Even better in the 80s, when they had an awesome arcade. Haunted House and Hyperball pinballs were standouts.

But as above, they're run by a POS company now.

        • +2

Arcade was there in the 90s in between the Gravatron and dodgem cars.

Remember the remote control boats near the entry? Or the the fire fighter water game?

          • -2

@PainToad: Go visit, remote control boats are back in a new location :)

I fully understand boycotting Dreamworld on account of their shady practices, but a year pass to a fully featured theme park and water park for this price is a solid deal.

  • Off topic, but does Wet n Wild still ever come out with heavily discounted unlimited entry year passes?

    • +1

      Nope

  • -1

Poor theme park from a disgusting company.

  • -1

Does one have to buy extra passes for kids ?

    • In general the crowds in the park do not warrant the purchase of an express pass in my opinion. Everyone (inc kids) would need an express pass if you wanted to ride via Ride Express.

  • As it's a Black Friday deal would it be fair to assume this deal will expire after today? Can anyone confirm?

    • December 2 for this deal
