Im keen to buy this for a 2yo. What could go wrong?

    • +4

Not sure if serious but do not buy this for a 2y/o.

I think there's specific kid ones that are less powerful.

    • +1

It has 3 speeds if that helps. Slowest speed would be ok for kids, but you'd need to buy the sensitive heads for it.
      The app will gamify brushing

  • I’m looking for Genius 9000 sale. USB c charger. Battery lasts 3 weeks. I’m wondering what’s the lowest it got to. Currently $189

    • +10

This one is better. Same amount of power, but much lighter and smaller. The apps etc are garbage that you never use.
      Source: I have both.

      • Thanks mate

      • I have a genius 9000 that has recently developed mould within the light. Unuseable now as the mould oozes out into the toothbrush head.
Does the smart 1 have the same amount of rotations and oscillations as the genius 9000?

        • +1

Yes. The only difference is the silly app stuff and the size and weight due to needing more sensors to detect orientation. The charging port is also a bit different. .

The smaller and lighter properties of the smart makes it much better.

The smell is an unfortunate property of all these. They all require quite a bit of cleaning and drying to maintain properly

          • @xmail: Great to know! Thank you!

I always use the 'pro clean' on the 9000.. so hoping the smart 1 has the same sort of clean.

            • @kimba88: Yes it has the same "top end mode" with same oscillations per second etc as the 9000. Why anyone would want anything other than "maximum clean" is a mystery (for those days you only want your teeth a little bit clean?), but more made up modes justifies a new model and higher price.

Same with the stupid 'io' heads or whatever. No advantage whatsoever, but it allows oral b to switch to more expensive heads with their razor model.

You are being gamed if you think 15 modes and "smart cleaning guidance apps" etc are worth paying for.

              • @xmail: Hahaha.. i love the for those days you want your teeth only a little bit clean comment.
Great to know it has the same pro clean. I never used any other mode on the 9000.. i attempted to, but it just wasnt the same. The tongue cleaner mode was just weird and i never understood how that mode was much different to the other modes.

      • I’ve bought one after your comment mate.

i agree with this, my whole family uses all different oral b toothbrushes, and i have the iO10. i used the different modes and app the 1st month, never used it since. great novelty modes. i have to remind myself to use it because i paid so much for it. for the most part i forget.

  • +1

for the current owners - what is the material of the black colour skin? Is it rubber? all my Oral B brushes replaced because of the rubber parts get worn out or feels sticky.

    Thanks!

    • Rubber

    • Good call. I have a plastic one at the moment but the bottom is getting mouldish brown colour and the charging dock bad. Possibly water damage.

Full plastic is definitely better but they slip sometimes.

  • Anyone got this working well? Got last time, the app keeps failing to find the brush about half the time

  • +4

Thanks OP. Got 3 for entire family via their website. Free shipping over $70 and extra $10 off for new accounts. So $107 for 3 and free shipping.

These should integrate with Home Assistant for those who want to. I have the 8000 series and set up battery recharge reminders via HA and Google nest hubs

    • wait… Oral-B can now integrate with HA? what's the protocol it uses? Bluetooth / Wifi?
      Thanks

  • How is this diff to the 1/2 ones at WW around $50 from my memory? The no case ones are around $25.

  • Thanks OP! Phenomenal username by the way.

  • These already flooded Gumtree and eBay lol

  • Within 30km of Sydney CBD no more stock in store, bite the bullet and paid for delivery, should have click on bondi store when there was still stock half an hour aga…. sucks!!

    • Just keep refreshing the ebay page. I just got one with ebay plus $5 off free postage.

  • Legend OP and posters. Got one through eBay with eBay plus for $34 delivered after $5 back. Needed a replacement for my nicad version. Had to refresh over the last 20 minutes or so before it became available.

  • What's the motor specs of this? My 8000 battery is going and debating whether to replace the battery or buy a new toothbrush

  • Thank you OP! And thanks to those that mentioned about the eBay plus discount.
There was also a $10 off voucher when spending over $50 (when buying 2) plus free shipping for eBay plus members.

    • What voucher? I dont have any on my ebay plus. 🥲

  • thanks, my ones battery isn't lasting any more.

  • Perfect thanks OP. Bought a Costco bulk pack of vitality-compatible heads just before the old handle died, now I can use them! As someone who wore away my gum from an electric toothbrush in the past the different modes will hopefully stop me doing this.

  • Just an FYI is appears on Ebay new stock keeps getting added.

  • Bought from eBay yesterday and today they already shipped!!!

  • +1

After 1 hour of refreshing and checking - got one for the wife to replace her Vitality.

    • same here.. been refreshing for about 30mins and finally got one. The total sold stands at 1328 at this point, hope they fullfill all the orders :)

      • Mine has been shipped and confirmed. Makes me wonder how much stock they're truly holding - maybe sea container of 10000s.

  • got one via Ebay, Thanks OP

  • Bought 4 from eBay. Will replace the kids Spiderman Vitality series ones as well as our aging 8000 series. Too much hassle to desolder and replace the old batteries.

  • what do you guys think in using this model for kids (more than 5 yo)?
I'm a bit iffy in giving them the 'kids oral-b' model, as this would 'clean better'…

    • Our boys 6 and 9 have been using the Oral B kids Vitality for a while now. I'm upgrading them to this new one as the battery is better and should be able to configure brush speeds in case the most powerful setting is too much for them.

  • Geez that ebay page has sold $40k of this one product in a day. Probably all ozbargainers too.

    • These are 2022 stock, so they must found a container worth in the back of the yard or something.

      • Yep

  • Still going at $34.. thanks OP and everyone who provided info - it rates well on this page https://www.electricteeth.com/au/oral-b-electric-toothbrush-…

  • Three sent one still pending. Looks like they're getting stores all over the country to fulfil online eBay orders. Mine are coming from two different locations in Queensland to Victoria.

  • Received mine today. It was fulfilled by the local store haha.

I’m seeing “Item no longer available” on eBay. Do I just need to wait for restock or is the eBay deal over?

Trying to search any suburb for click and collect on the Shaver Shop website shows no results found, so seems every store is sold out? :(

  • Thanks OP managed to get it form ebay..

  • Old listing on eBay was removed but new listing now available. Shows in stock and worked with my $5 off $25 spend eBay Plus voucher.

    • Sold out on ebay.

      • Sold out almost everywhere

  • Just got mine today. Is it supposed to be kinda loud? I've had one of the lower-end Oral-B ones before. Regardless, it feels great after brushing, so it's whatever. :)

    • It’s definitely louder than my old Pro 100 model

  • Just used my new Smart 1 toothbrush and compared with my old 8000.
Seems like the brush head has less wiggle compared to the old one perhaps due to faster oscillations? Possibly more power or faster because of a brand new battery as well.
Home Assistant auto detected the new brush as a Smart Series 4000 but it's missing the battery entity which is annoying so I can't set up charge reminders based on battery percentage.
Less modes and no light when turned on apart from the pressure warning. Also no position detection.

Overall it's lacking in features but for simple brushing on max power I think it'll do a better job. Only worth replacing if your old 8000 series has a dying or dead battery.

  • Mine arrived (was picked up) this arvo. Geez it's loud!

What's the go for good heads to use with these? I notice that Woolies has some replacement heads on special. Guess I need to look at what's a good price too.

  • Still available from shaver shop website but you have to pay for delivery. No click and collect. BTW, their website is terrible!

You might be able to buy directly at shop but it could be online only…

  • Just bought one, thanks!
