I notice that by giving one of these computer to said person(s) will come with a life time 24/7 technical support from the giver.. so be careful who you give to.

Looks a bit expensive to me, especially given recent deals.

    • +14

Yes, it was $30 less from the same supplier 2 days ago:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876950

    • They have simply risen the price after selling so many earlier at the low price.

      • +4

Yeap, I guess supply and demand but find it a bit shady. So I wouldn’t say this is a deal.

  • +1

Wouldn't you be better off getting a mini PC for this price? What does the Dell do that the minis don't?
    - Mini PC $164 (Intel N100, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, Win11 Pro) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/877170

Mini PCs and NUCs are definitely a great option, however an i5 8th gen will blow n95/n100/n5105 away performance wise.

      Source; I’ve had them all.

    • +5

      Dell will be
      - upgradable
      - faster on multitask

But at current deal price, I'll choose N100 over Dell.

    • +2

The main advantage of the mini is it sips power and it’s small. No other reason to go mini over this.

      • -1

Space, noise and potential WAF (wife acceptance factor).

Sad to see someone said intel 9gen is super old PC. Its my newest PC at home now. And also my work laptop.
Just realize its been 5 year. I'll gonna cry in the IT team corner and begging them to upgrade.

    • Don't cry, I didn't mean it.

      • Oh what a zinger!

      • -3

C'mon mate, he works in the IT department, obviously he knows that. You will just make him even more sad.

      • Ah, more reason to create a ticket to upgrade.

      • Released August 2019

    • +1

8500 and 9500 are no slouches. Performance doesn't increase linearly with time. 8th gen was when Intel realised AMD were eating their lunch and needed to provide meaningful performance uplifts in order to compete.

      • +1

True, and now with the new Apple silicon chips that more efficient than intel, the company where I work reluctant giving new employe a windows laptop.

    • +3

my newest is a 6th gen im using to type this, it's my daily driver which i got for $76 from a deal on here prolly half a year ago. It's absolutely sufficient for everything i do (i dont game on it).

Also suitable for middle aged people over 39 who made questionable decisions in life and became poor… Farken ouch. I love it. Thanks.

      You're welcome 😎👍

Its good to be thought of.

I just got an i7-8700 in a SFF dell for a HTPC but damn it runs hot. Up to 89c just streaming shows on Kodi. Would this be much cooler or just 8% more powerful?

    • +1

I have no data or facts to back this up - but my experience is newer gen i5 almost always runs cooler than previous gen i7

    • +2

Isn't that too high? I would be worried about thermal paste needing to be replaced if my PC was running that high..

  • +1

These were released August 2019, I'm not sure that qualifies as super old. They're still in regular rotation on some of the sites I have to maintain.
Good machine actually, very quiet, very quick, relatively small for a desktop.

  • I feel sorry for everyone who missed out on the ThinkCentre M90s that got posted in the comments of the previous Optiplex Deal.

    i5-12500
    16GB ram
    512GB SSD

    $179

    • Whoa, was that a price error?

      • +3

Yes, but they honored it anyway. They've all been posted.
The price has since been changed to $650.

    • Oh that would have been nice to replace my Lenovo mini with the 6th gen i5 for home automation etc.

I’m currently looking at the mini with a 9th gen for about $260.

    • Geez that’s an epic plex server! Just add an 8 TB and you’ll be laughing
