SSD instead of HDD.
SSDs aren't $40 more than HDDs though.. I just had a quick look and saw some 500GB SSDs on Amazon for $40
Dell OptiPlex 7070 SFF Setup and Specifications for those wanting more info.
I’m tossing up between one of these and something like an n100 mini pc for a Plex server. Any idea which would perform better?
This
N100 is far more efficient if you're going to be leaving it on 24/7 (I'm assuming you want to run an *arr stack 24/7 with Plex like most people do), with power prices as they are it's probably a better buy. Be aware that the Chinese N100 boards apparently suffer from C state issues though so do your research before buying.
N100 is massive overkill for non-transcoded Plex and *arr apps though if that's all you're doing. I run mine on a ~2015 era Celeron.
Yes It would be the usual *arr stack. I'm currently running it all in docker on my nas but finding it chokes sometimes and impacts other things on there. I do sometimes need to transcode but only 1 or 2 streams at a time
N100 would be a great buy if you're running more services then, and transcoding will benefit greatly from quicksync.
OP. My Windows really needs 16 GB ram.
Any of these i5-9500 units with 16 GB.
Also interested to know which Bluetooth , WIFI devices ozbargain find most successful with the dell 7070.
Looks like these should have 4 RAM slots, so whether it comes with 1x8GB or 2x4GB, you should have at least 2 free slots. $25 on Amazon will get you an extra 8GB.
Except that its an extra $40.
