  • Optus network, 4G only if that matters

  • I am thinking of using this to hotspot and abandon NBN. Is it doable? Please advise.

I am doing exactly this using a 4G Huawei B818 from FB marketplace. Keep in mind that only the base data rolls over. Bonus data is lost at end of month

Well, I do this with the 300gb plan. It's Optus, so it's a bit slow during peak times, I switch to Telstra if necessary. It's good for $39.

Don't go over, they charge criminal rates if you do. Also don't start downloads at midnight on a new month, their system is flawed, so they tried to charge me hundreds of dollars in excess usage. Then offered me a 'discount' instead of taking responsibility.
Had to create excel spreadsheets and send multiple emails to finally get an acceptable resolution from customer service.

So, go ahead, just learn from my experiences.

    • Im doing this with a Telstra plan (call + data) and they throttle the hotspot connection drastically.

Have had to use a VPN with high encryption, it works but certainly slower than on the phone

Don’t do it .! They do credit checks.!

    • I mean, that's a good to know but certainly not a deal breaker..

  • How much is it after 12 months?

  • What about MMS?
