  • Optus network, 4G only if that matters

  • I am thinking of using this to hotspot and abandon NBN. Is it doable? Please advise.

I am doing exactly this using a 4G Huawei B818 from FB marketplace. Keep in mind that only the base data rolls over. Bonus data is lost at end of month

Well, I do this with the 300gb plan. It's Optus, so it's a bit slow during peak times, I switch to Telstra if necessary. It's good for $39.

Don't go over, they charge criminal rates if you do. Also don't start downloads at midnight on a new month, their system is flawed, so they tried to charge me hundreds of dollars in excess usage. Then offered me a 'discount' instead of taking responsibility.
Had to create excel spreadsheets and send multiple emails to finally get an acceptable resolution from customer service.

So, go ahead, just learn from my experiences.

    • Im doing this with a Telstra plan (call + data) and they throttle the hotspot connection drastically.

Have had to use a VPN with high encryption, it works but certainly slower than on the phone

    • abandon NBN

      Save battery-phone: consider USB-tethering & min. hotspot ?

Being churning sims since adsl2+ was turned off, Lebara 100Gb/m was my goto plan for $14/m…Coles periodic IN-store only sales & stock-up.

Money-back deals via CR/TCB to keep cost lower, MORE-administrative…no deals since early-Oct-24 but likely to return soon ish.

Money-back deals Boost/Amaysim: you must risk it to learn their system: NOT transparent & read at least 1 mth of money-back deals to get a feel of the system/process. Lots of experienced Ozbargainers.

Consider free-wifi, if you weekly travel near such services. If lucky: can download torrents @ a few MB/s, outlier.

Don’t do it .! They do credit checks.!

    • I mean, that's a good to know but certainly not a deal breaker..

  • How much is it after 12 months?

    What about MMS?

    • You can get it enabled if you contact circles support. The following reason is a why its disabled by default

Please know that from November 3rd 2023, we have removed MMS from our plans for new customers (for now) as one of our on-going measures to ensure security and privacy for our customers.

Not sure what disabling MMS will actually do to "ensure security and privacy" though

      • Can confirm that they never offered to do that for my partner straight after she signed up and discovered her MMS wasn't working and contacted them.
Left within a week of signing up.
