Would this be good enough for some light gaming?

    • +4

at this budget better off with dell/lenovo/hp SFF and a used GPU

    • +3

If you need this small of a PC, AMD are much faster for games at this price.

        Thanks! Any recommendations?

Spend a bit more and get the new iMac Mini M4

      • +2

Nice machine but at $950 you're still going to get way more power out of a pc with dedicated graphics card aren't you?

    • +1

I have this model but with 16GB of RAM instead, paid $479 for it and I have to say, the Intel Iris Xe Graphics majority of the time perform fairly decently. Now if you're after light gaming, I'd suggest an AMD Ryzen mini PC. Ryzen 7 6900HX, 32GB Ram, 680M Radeon graphics, there's a Minisforum Mini PC with those specs that can be had for around $769 but with a $154 coupon applied to it, so low $600 range, just depends on your budget.

      • +1

Thank you, that model is in my short-list, just waiting to see if there is a better price tomorrow :) budget could be anywhere up to 800

Double the SSD size for $40 more

Has intel crap graphics buy a Ryzen cpu.

    • +2

This. I have a beelink 5560u and also 12450h. On review sites the Intel should be faster. In reality the ryzen is noticeably better for batocera, and uses less power as a bonus. So my Intel was relegated to home automation duties.

    • This looks to be designed for home lab/routing, which intel has better support.

      • Twin 2.5g lan yes. But Intel wifi on Linux can also be a bit flaky… Google Intel Linux wifi slow.

        • Or google AMD Linux wifi slow and get similar results

          • @idonotknowwhy: I have 2 recent Intel's, both slow in Linux. I also have 2 recent AMD, both fast in Linux. Both intels have intel wifi cards, both AMDs have realtek wifi cards. Just my experiences though.

            • @Wizballs: I have 2 Intels (ASUS-W680 13th gen CPU, a random MSI Tommahawk 12th gen CPU) and a latest Threadripper (Asrok TRX50 WS), all active running Linux. No issues with speeds on any of them.

There are some similar price 6600U ryzens with 680M embedded, which will perform pretty well but if you want to do an "emulation king" that can play PS3 emulators and everything else it looks like the 8845HS / 780M units are the ones to get and they're still ~$780 or so with 32gb ram / 1tb SSD. Then you start looking at oculink support, add another $100. (Gemtek K8 Plus on AliExpress)

    This one, $440 : GMKtec Mini Gaming PC AMD Ryzen 5 6600H(Max 4.5GHz) Windows 11 Pro Dual NIC LAN 2.5G DDR5 Dual SSD Slot/WiFi 6E, USB3.2, USB-C, BT5.2, DP, HDMI, Dual Fan Nucbox M6

    • Can you give a link for the $440 one?

    • wheres the link to the other one maybe u can inbox it to me? i get the price of the OP on the first one but not this one

Nothing can beat that Bosgame M2 deal for $449 few days ago !!!

      • Where? When? Link?

          https://www.amazon.com.au/BOSGAME-M2-Computers-Windows-Speak…
Its happening again just as I search, only if you trust this seller, good luck! Not as cheap but still good price!

          • @kaikor: I see $599?

          • @kaikor: Just looking at the sellers store and its hard to believe it's legit.

            • @SueyJitSu: Yep, I dont understand why Amazon will let all these scammers cashing in there? They got no control at all?

          • @kaikor: Yeah dont. I thought I managed to get it last week. But it was a dodgy seller. Then msged to say they cannot send my order and to scan an attached QR code to contact them. No thanks! Waiting for Amazon to refund me :(

            • +3

@TheUsualSuspect: Thx, good to know someone has tested these dodgy deals and ended up just a nightmare …

      • +1

        this beat it..
slightly more expensive .. but delivery by Amazon and a newer CPU..
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874845

Only good up at 2.30am in the morning..

        Thankfully I have insomnia….

It is very annoying finding really good mini pc deals, some 5800H or even lower 5700U still asking for ridiculous prices

  • +1

So is the Bosgame seller legit or not? I’ve been eyeing off some of their units on Amazon, but reading some of the comments here I’m getting discouraged

    • +1

BOSGAME is a reputable seller on Amazon AU. I've bought from them before and they're OK.

The seller of that BOSGAME M2 that other users were talking about is SARAstore:

      Just launched
      No feedback yet

I wouldn't trust SARAstore on Amazon AU.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this Beelink?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Beelink-Ryzen7-5800H-PC-Bluetooth/…

    • +1

Says $679 but with a $200 coupon, so for $479 that's not too shabby. Depends on your needs really, you just after basic computing with some fairly light gaming?

      • Yes, just office application use predominantly and some retro arch gaming

        • +1

Then just get a N100 one will do the job, no need to waste more cash

  • +2

I've been watching Mini PCs around this price band for the last several months.

    A few thoughts:

    • Not a bad price and based on the specs it's about 10% lower than what it probably would have been discounted at 3 months ago, but expect Mini PCs to get more price competitive with Black Friday sales, Lunar Lake / Strix releases, etc.
    • Apple's recent M4 Mac Mini launch has and will disrupt the Mini PC segment and cause prices to go lower - great for us
    • Always check Aliexpress for Mini PC deals as they are usually cheaper than Amazon
    • Camelx3 for Mini PC deals on Amazon isn't always accurate due to seller discount mechanisms

Some Mini PCs I was considering on Amazon AU about 2 months ago:

Also been watching a lot of reviews on the new M4 Mini, the performance for a $815 machine is absolutely mind blowing! Only if these 6900 or 8845 goes around or below $450, else I will just stick back with a Mac, bet will last me longer than these chinese ones.
