Noticed this code show up when looking at an item from a Japanese store, and just successfully used it myself. Looks like it just started this week with no end date currently listed.

    • Thanks!

Interesting, that page says max discount $300 but the T&Cs say $1000. Which is it? 🤔

      • I rec'd an email including this offer on Monday it says:

        Score 20% off* unique finds
Explore early Black Friday offers from trusted Japan sellers.

        Use code JPN20

*Ltd time only. Max disc $1000. T&Cs apply

        • Seems they've since corrected the page to say $1000 as well.

its good but GST on top often tips the scales

    • ^ this
      GST and handling fee

      • +1

        handling fee

Custome 'officer' open/close a box in the most Idc/Idgaf way possible? Just to find imaginary cocaine in a phoneeeee

        • +1

Handling fee in this case is paid toward the carrier because they have to sort out the paperwork. From what I read online as well as my own experience, we're looking at another 15% on top to import anything that is worth more than $900

    • Is it not like buying from any other overseas seller (e.g. China) where the GST is included in the list price?

      • You're supposed to pay import fee + GST for anything worth more than $900 afaik

        • eBay already collects at checkout, you pay for those things when you pay for the item.

          • +1

@Nom: Depends on the item and seller, have had to pay DHL for duties and handling etc in the recent past

            • @Lonewolf1983: Are you saying that in spite of paying the taxes and duties to eBay,
you still had to pay DHL more duties and handling fees ?

        • For goods $1000+ there’s an Import Processing Charge of $50/$90. In my experience this paid to the agent (courier) upon arrival to Australia

Gerry fkn Harvey. That clown owes me a lot of money.

      • +1

That clown owes all of Australia a lot of money.

    • Item
      + 10% GST
      - 20% discount

is around a 10% discount still.

      • Don't forget the processing fee

  • +11

I noticed Japanese sellers tend to overprice their items on eBay compared to other platforms eg yahoo
Auctions so you maybe better off using a proxy service anyway

    • agreed, would be worth checking yahoo or rakuten first

      • Can Australians buy from Yahoo.jp or Rakuten ?

        • only with a proxy service such as buyee

          • @beltdrive: Does the prices in buyee include GST already for <$1,000 purchases?

            • @Haunt: Keep in mind buyee may force you to pay in AUD with a bad conversion rate. Not sure if they still do this

              • @node modules: Thanks for the heads up. The Seiko SBSC009 I was looking at was cheaper in Buyee by $60, but I guess there's still a lot of factors that i'm not sure of. Guess will stick to eBay as it will be charged in AUD.

ebay is unfortunately becoming less relevant by the day

    Any used knickers?

    • +2

      yes, mine

      • What’s the discount?

        • +1

          20% holey old knicker discount

  • this sort of code is going to lead to some reckless spending

  • I’m looking at a watch from Japan that with the applied discount comes in at $965. Any idea if the discount will be applied to the commercial invoice? If not then it will be over the $1000 threshold and I’ll be charged GST and import duties by customs and so no point be buying it.

    • +2

I think threshold is assessed against original listing price (before any discounts) as the discounts are given by eBay, not the seller

      • I thought this as well, until last week, when I got a $400 laptop, applied the eBay coupon to bring it down to $350.
        Laptop arrived this week.
I asked the seller for the invoice, because laptop is going overseas as a gift.
The seller sends the invoice, with amount of $350 (and the GST amount, calculated against $350).

        Interesting…

    • You will get charged GST regardless I believe as its no longer under $1000. You will get charged duties as well last time I got 20% extra for duties and GST total for a watch from Japan

    • It generally will not. I just pulled the trigger myself, sent by DHL - I've asked them to revise which they're sending the evidence I've provided like order details. etc. I won't know for a few days before receiving the watch. I've paid the GST (no duty other than around $115 processing fees) and they will refund me if they agree + another adjustment fee as well.

    • Best to confirm with the merchant. Declarations are to their discretion and there are inexperienced ones

  • +1

If you're after Japanese figures (there's quite a few second hand listings for this promotion), Suruga-ya might be cheaper. They continuously have free shipping deals on (currently running).

  • Doesn't look like Pokemon cards are included :(

  • +2

Please remember to check prices on Amazon prior to purchasing. I find that a lot of the Japanese knives I've looked at (Tojiro, Yaxell, Kai Seki) are cheaper on amazon. Unfortunately, there doesn't really seem to be any "deal" that would make sense unless you suddenly need a lot of Japanese knives on a budget. While many smaller sellers aren't even participating.

    Product - meh

    Product, Japan - omg!!!!

  • This code doesn't work with everything from Japan. I tried to apply to some Japanese store and it doesn't work.

  • oh this is sad… there has been some price jacking going around..
i've been following prices on certain watches and they jacked the price up by $900 (anticipating this sale)
Can even see the same item on Chrono24 for $1000 cheaper

    • I'm seeing a lot that are genuinely cheap though.

  • worked for some of the car parts I have in my cart, thx OP!
