General Use Laptop Recommendations for Budget of $1000~ $1500

My HP Pavilion dv6 finally gave up on me and refuse to turn on after serving me well for 12yrs.

I do my file updates in an external HDD. But the Adobe Design suite CS5.5 is what I can't let go. Not sure if can be transferred over to a new laptop?

Anyway, need recommendations for a replacement laptop to use for general MS Office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/PowerBI), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Design software, basic browsing to use FB/eBay/gumtree/etc. Was advised 8GB RAM, 256 GB disk space SSD, Wi-Fi, (ideally graphic card), 14 inch screen monitor should suffice for my requirements.

Seeking OzBargainers wisdom and recommendations on brand and model. Open to suggestions.
Have read through other previous posts but not much info.

Thank you!

You a Mac or Windows person?

And I would suggest 16GB RAM at a minimum these days. 256GB is also a little low imo but if you're predominantly using external or cloud storage for files than I guess it should do.

    • Used to Windows but have used Mac before. Thanks, recommendations on any particular model?

No sorry, haven't been in the laptop market for a while

Would probably suggest holding out till Black Friday (which is only a week or two away) before narrowing down or settling on any specific model. Consider subscribing to the Laptop tag on OzB to keep yourself notified on any new deals.

      • Are you Android or iOS?

        • Android. I assume iOS is apple products? don't like them :')

          • @Tomato: Only reason I asked, if you were an iPhone user then a MacBook would be your best option. But you're Android and dislike Apple so that means yet another Windows notebook.

Not the newest model and the processor is 2 gens behind, but has decent performance, HDR OLED display and comes in at under $1000.

If you want something newer and with better Gpu then grab https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/lenovo-yoga-7-gen-9
Same model, same OLED display but newer generation with AMD 8000 series cpu

If you prefer something with solid build quality and semi rugged design then grab the ThinkPad T series. There's a clearance on the outlet https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873328
CPU is not the newest either but you get 32Gb ram. The price has also dropped to $1164.
Downside is the display is not as color accurate as the OLED Yoga's.

    • thanks for info n advice :) will look into these.

Thanks, watched it. But it's definitely not a normal occurrence for a laptop to be run over by any vehicle, let alone a truck. They should do a drop test which is more likely to happen in daily life :D
