[NSW] Fee-Free Courses for Engineering, Aviation, Cybersecurity, & More (Maximum 1 Per Semester, Citizens / PR only) @ TAFE NSW

180

This is (sort of) a repeat of what I posted back in 2021. The benefits are much less now that covid benefits are over, so you'll only be able to apply for 1 course for free, for the first semester. The second round of applications for Semester 2 is not available via this link yet — check again in 2025.

You choose to study in 24 different disciplines and level up your job-ready skills for free*

Places are limited and not guaranteed. Enrolling or applying early with all required documentation is recommended. The number of funded NSW Fee-free* TAFE places is determined by the terms of the skills agreement between the Australian Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments.

Apply as soon as possible for the best chances of getting a spot

What does Fee-free* mean?
For eligible students, “Fee-free” means your tuition fee will be covered by the Australian and NSW governments. You may still need to pay for materials for your course e.g. a uniform to wear on your work placement. * Eligibility criteria apply.

Don't get your hopes up until you've checked the entry requirements. Some of these courses require that you are already working in that particular field.

wow, so if you're unemployed, but wanting to train up for something else than your previous career, you won't be able to use those courses?!

You just need to start from the very beginning and you might need several semesters to earn the full diploma.

Certificate I has no pre-requisites, Certificate II requires Cert I, Diploma may require that you completed all the preceding certs if you got no work experience.

  • This might be a stupid question, maybe not, but what's better: a Cert III or a Diploma? I assume a Diploma.

      Diploma is a higher qualification

      • Thanks.

        • In most cases you must have completed a cert iv before they will allow you to do a diploma course.

          • @AmazingJas: Source?

            • @Serious Lee: It's listed under Entry requirements of each course, what you need before you enrol. Most Diploma's require a Cert IV or III, or if you don't have one, you need to provide proof of prior knowledge known as an RPL or recognition of prior learning

              https://www.tafensw.edu.au/enrol/recognition-credit-transfer…

If you have work experience in that field, that counts as RPL and you can start on a Diploma without having to obtain a prior Certificate.

For e.g Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care requires that you have CHC30121 (Cert III) or CHC30113 (Cert III) OR Answer to the following apply question: Can you provide a transcript or certificate of your academic outcome of one of the above qualifications?

  • Semester 1 2025 Fee Free* TAFE Certificates and Diplomas.

Is it only semester 1 free or free courses starting in semester 1?

    • +1

Semester 2 begins in the middle of the year. You must wait until applications are open to enrol next year.

You can only apply for Sem 1 course now (fee free)

  • Thanks OP

  • Man being in the ACT sucks sometimes - literally surrounded on all sides by NSW and intelligible. If I moved to Queanbeyan 20 min away from work though - suddenly the fees go from 10k to 0. Oof.

  • jk Anyone got some fake NSW addresses? /jk

  • Hmm I meet the eligibility but it still says I need to pay $4k for Diploma of IT despite being on the list.
Anyone applied before know if this will change after a formal application?

  • Anything similar for VIC?
