Leaptel has announced a price reduction for existing customers:

250/25Mbps – $104 p/m - FTTP and HFC
1000/50Mbps – $114 p/m - FTTP and HFC
250/100Mbps – $120 p/m - FTTP only
500/200Mbps – $140 p/m - FTTP only

Also, Leaptel is upgrading its NBN network with redundancy at every POI, reducing the amount of unplanned and planned outages with the migration to Superloop backhaul from FSG backhaul.

"With the backhaul migration well underway and all our POIs will be fully protected by months end, with new services landing on the new backhaul except for 1 POI (3WER)"

"For existing customers, you will receive an email next week with details on the lowering of your non-promotional price."

Yes, Matt just announced it. If you are a existing customer you should contact Support to change to it.

      • I'll look at it when my current discount finishes… thanks…

    • Why so excited for high upload rate? Work related? Genuinely curious why.

      • Why so excited for high upload rate? Work related?

    250/25 is $89 per month for 12months..

    1000/50 is $99

oh shit… I was thinking for swapping out but this changes everything.
FINALLY a telco that rewards customers that stick around

      • I'm confused…. Price goes up after 12 months?

        • +2

          yeah i misread the details.
Its yet another FU existing customers.

          sigh

          • @senectus: I cannot understand it… There is zero customer loyalty these days… It should be that the price drops after 6 or 12 months if you continue… I guess the bean counters have worked it all out that it's more profitable banking on people that cbf churning all the time.

            • @Shaun Prawn: ok I have confirmed with the big guy.. If up stay and upgrade to the 1000/50 from the 100/40 i get the deal.

This is enough for me to stay i think. (though I STILL think $10 a month for static IP is robbery)

  • I pay $79 for 250/25 at the moment

    • This is for existing customers. New customers are on different pricing.

    • 12 Months promo pricing as well presumably?
I'm on the same price/plan for fttp upgrade but the 12months is expiring soon after the new year.

I thought nbn prices were meant to be decreasing for higher end plans?

  • NBN only or is Opticomm included?

    • nbn FTTP and HFC only.

    • It's NBN only. No changes for Opticomm

  • Nice. My 12 month promo has just finished. Great to get a price cut straight away.

Leaptel has upgraded its network with redundancy at every POI

    Not yet.

    • Thanks have fixed the post.

      • With the exception of 3WER, 4TNS, 6MLO and 6PNJ, any new service is being provisioned on the new backhaul.

    • Not yet.

      When?

  • Perfect timing as my NBN discount is expiring next month. Time to jump from ABB.

  • I'm glad the Superloop backhaul upgrade is complete. The frequent Opticomm outages were really taking a toll.

    • +1

I think it's only for NBN.

  • Damn. Got my hopes up.

  • Why is upload speed so expensive?

    • Because that was always part of NBN's strategy.

      • I'm obviously not up on such matters, but have often wondered why it's not priced the same. e.g. 1000/50 $114/Month, 250/100 $120/Month - $114 for 1050Mbps combined, but $120 for 350Mbps combined. Clearly it isn't a 2-way online highway…

        • Clearly it isn't a 2-way online highway…

It is, but NBN chose to do their pricing models by favouring downloads over uploads as that benefits the far majority of users….

For this reason, you will see non-NBN providers often having much better options for higher upload speeds or symmetrical internet connections.

damn, no fast uploads for HFC :(

  • I'm currently paying $74.95 for 100/20

    isn't Swoop's $79 250/25 a much better deal than this?

  • Why is this a deal?

    • More of a PSA than a deal. Not the cheapest available. Current customers will automatically get the cheaper price.

  • I'm currently paying $79 for 50/20

  • $104 for 250/25 is not a deal.

  • The 1000/50 for existing customers is $109/mo from the email I got last month.

  • What their connection settings? PPoE?

  • Leaptel currently have several outages in VIC
