          • @rodericb: Ah all g, I think you'll be g for a while with your 7800x3d from what I have seen 😄 hopefully amd keeps the am5 support promise as I am definitely keen on the idea of a drop in upgrade a few years down the line

    • This time. you overclock a little bit on 9800X3D @5.5Ghz, the improvement is worth the money.

I'm so temping replace it with my sh*t i'5' 14700K

Have TechFast 7 7800X3D build on order…business day 17. Have not started build yet as so they say no one can source 7 7800X3D from AMD or distributors until late next week at best and thus price increase. Have offered 7 9800X3D upgrade for additional $80 which they say they have in stock as all of AMD attention is on the 7 9800X3D release.
A thread discussing this with a few of us waiting on PCs.

9800x3d for $80 extra sounds like a bargain to me. Go for it.

      • I would jump straight on that too

    • +1

Agreed with crikey, go for it mate

      • +1

Yes should have mentioned that I took up the offer although not sure if I will see benefits with a 4070 Ti super GPU. Felt like TechFast had a gun to my head upgrade or continue to wait. I was happy with only $80 but its a bit like do you want fries with that LOL.

I think you will depending on the title. Should help 1% lows too FPS wise.

I mean given you had been waiting 17 days…..9800X3D all day long. Crappy wait time but I'm sure the first time you boot into a game you'll forget all about it lol

          • +1

@Jsmooth57: I hope PC to be dispatched mid next week then there is another 5 days shipping. So at best 25 business days…more than a calender month…oh boy. But you are right all will be forgotten when I boot into the free star wars outlaws.

I'm glad I managed to snag 7800X3D for $530 before the price hike.
Improvement in 1% & 0.1% low is tempting, but it's definitely outside my budget for now.

  • What is the ETA on the Nvidia 5000 series cards?

    • +1

Supposed to get announced at CES 2025. So earliest is going to be late Jan or early/mid Feb 2025 will be the best guess at present.

  • +1

The price seems wild to me…

  • mwave showing $799.

  • I think ill wait for the invitable price drop

    • +2

Price drops normally happen when theres either competition, too much stock or end of life, non apply to this so I think you will be waiting a while.

  • What's the best x870 motherboard to pair with this?

    • +1

Most replies I see seem to steer you towards a B650E board as most gamers will never use all its features of a higher end board, unless you have a reason.
But to answer your question. I am in a similar spot and been looking at X870s and if I was to go down that path, I'd probably choose the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi AM5. Hardware Unboxed rated it pretty high for its features vs cost.

If you are playing 1440p and 4k on ultra/max graphics settings, the improvements from 7800x3D will not be a lot. At least with 4090 or slower GPU, as most likely GPU bound. Unless like most reviewers benchmark with 1080p mid/low graphics settings or 720p. Future proof? Yes, but future CPU will be faster. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/19.ht…

    • well said. this seems to be the point most are missing.

  • So I see, every new AMD chip is now released at a higher price rather than being at the same price as the previous model. So 10800X3D $1000, 11800X3D $1200. For 5% performance gains each gen.

    • according to pcmag.com the australian launch price of 7800x3d was $780.

      9800x3d $799
      so 10800x3d $818
      and 11800 $837

hey i can live with that :)

    • It was kinda obvious this was going to happen.
With intel's 13/14th gen issues, the 15th gen being so bad and the 98700x3d being this good it was immediately obvious that if you want one be ready at midnight.
I was and got one from PCCG, arrives monday.

      • Mine is listing as 'Shipped' and i got an email saying shipped which included tracking info. There is a comment in my order on PCCG saying "Estimated Time of Arrival into our warehouse - 14/11/24" and my tracking info is saying it hasnt been scanned yet. So I dunno wtf is going on there
Ive never had PCCG say something has shipped when its on backorder before..

        • Seems you did not get it from the initial stock they had like i did, weird they marked it as shipped though.

Estimated delivery by Monday 11 November*
          It's on its way

          • @Axelstrife: Damn, I guess i took too long to order then. I ordered about 20 minutes after launch

            • +1

@DanielP2: 12:01 AM for me, took a few min to check other stores price and PCCG was cheapest. it was actually up a couple minutes before 12:00

  • Now we just need Apple to bring their power house CPU's to the PC market.

    • Not going to happen

  • Amd would wait for 78x3d stocks to be cleared up, then would send a new bios update…i guess

  • Not really a deal. Also PLE are a money grabbing company so I would avoid if you like support service

  • expired? Showing $829 for me

  • Currently Available on US Amazon for USD 479 + $8.81 delivery. About AUD 750.
