Xiaomi 14T 5G (12GB, 256GB) - Global Version - $799 + $12 Delivery ($779 Delivered with First) @ Kogan

81

This could be expiring today. I'm not sure. Let me know if it isn't. I also posted another deal on Oppo Reno 12. Not sure which is better. Or maybe neither?

Mod: Buy with caution, there are credible reports that this phone will no longer operate on Australian carriers for phone calls and mobile data.

According to chat on Whirlpool, this device is blacklisted with all carriers since 3g shutdown

    • +4

Neg to highlight this comment and scrimshaw's comment that potential buyers need to be aware of.
      No offense to OP.

      • +5

No offence taken. Thanks for pointing it out tho. I just took for granted that given all the fuss around 3g shutdown, no seller would actively sell blocked devices anymore. And I'm actually shopping because my mother's Reno 5 got blocked. So if I end up buying another blocked phone, imagine the rage I would have lol.

Not a problem if your IMEI passed check here https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/3G-Network-Closure-Block…

I would rather assume that all current, and especially new models will be supported. This issue is just a reason for official importer to scare away customers and bring the money to them.

        • My Samsung died this week, put sim into my old Mi A2, & nothing…. Thanks to above link, I know know why. Thanks for sharing this info!

      • I got the Vivo iQOO Neo9S Pro (grey import) from AliExpress for $600. My phone got disconnected last Wednesday and my job service provider couldn't reach me, and we eventually discovered the problem: the phone was blacklisted. They gave me a $350 voucher to buy a phone that will work.

      • 4G Network LTE FDD: B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28, 32, 66 | LTE TDD: B38, 40, 41, 42, 48

band 28 is supported, no problem.

This blacklists devices are fraudulent! WTF?
If you stop 3G service, any phone not compatible with 4G/5G won't work, that's it.
By blacklist 4G/5G phones, it's a joke! What about foreigners or Aussies come to AUS with foreign mobile phones had to buy new phones? Expect class actions.

interesting scenario, if you bought the phone and it was blacklisted by carriers, could you get a refund?
On one hand the vendor has advised it is a global version, and you didn't do your research so one could argue its your own fault
On the other hand, the typical consumer may not know it isnt supported just by saying 'global version'

Could ACCC step in and say something like mobile devices being sold in australia need to have a disclaimer stating that they will be blocked by carriers?

The fun part is the law change is driving anti competitive behaviour and while the phone could be supported, the carriers are choosing not to and one could argue they are colluding to control what phones can be used in australia

    • +2

You are entitled to a refund if you are sold a product that is not fit for purpose, it's part of Aus Consumer Law, it's just that the process of chasing for a refund (or Store credit) is a potential headache, and you do need to expend your own time / effort to fight for you own consumer rights. • Got the 14t Pro last week - no issues with calls with Vodafone, showing 5g in the city, 4g at the outer suburbs.
From their product page, 14T and 14T Pro has the same connectivity specs for 4G to 5G.

    • +2

You might be right, but NB with the Redmi 13 series, some networks have blocked some versions but not others 0 base model, pro and pro plus being treated inconsistently despite having the same connectivity specs. See this discussion in Whirlpool https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/36yz200w

So it's possible that the 14T and 14TPro might not be both on the blacklist/whitelists. SO far nobody on this forum has tested the 14T (this model) https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3kpyk7mm?p=13

Whirlpool forums have extensive discussion of this. TL:DR is if you're on Telstra, you should be OK, but Optus are blocking a lot of grey import phones, and Voda somewhere in the middle.
      Buy at your own risk.

Nevertheless looks like a brilliant price for 14T

      • Oh wow. I didn't even consider that the carriers could blacklist individual models even if it meets the specs. Guess I got lucky.

        • +2

Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all working off different data/information that they determine themselves. That the heart of the current problem. Based on people's comments it looks like Optus is being the most conservative or has the least amount of data so more phones are blocked from working on Optus than say Telstra.

I ordered the 14t pro after having issues with my Xiaomi phones which hopefully is arriving today - I will provide an update once I can test but I was advised by Kogan support that it should work:

    POCO F3:

    amaysim not working (optus)

    true mobile not working (optus)

aldimobile working (if other sims added it stops working)

    Redmi note 10:

    amaysim working (optus)

    aldi mobile not working (telstra)

    true mobile not working (optus)

    Poco X3:

aldimobile working (if other sims added it stops working)

    amaysim not working (optus)

    true mobile not working (optus)

Oddly the True mobile Thai roaming sim (optus) wouldn't work in any of them!

The 14t pro is also a bit cheaper in the sale - $1058 vs $1079 that I paid for the 1tb version

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/metatrader-xiaomi-mi-14t-pro-5g…

    • Would be keen to know how you go with optus if you do try the 14T with them

Just picked up now (was delivered to a service station using hubbed - not sure why!). Literally just turned it on and starting moving config from my old phone - not tested directly with Optus but the True Mobile (Thai / Optus roaming) and Aldimobile (Telstra) are both working - it's the 14T pro model with the Mediatek Dimensity 9300+ and 1tb storage..

        • Thanks for confirming for me. I might consider taking the punt now i know atleast it should work on telstra if it doesnt with optus

        • If you don't mind, can you check your IMEI here and update us:

          https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/3G-Network-Closure-Block…

I've sort of got my eye on the 14T, at these prices…

@88mph: Good news – this phone is not blocked.
Based on the number you provided 86901807, this phone (Xiaomi 2407FPN8EG) has not been identified as having compatibility issues related to the closure of Telstra's 3G Network and is not currently blocked from connecting to Telstra’s Mobile Network.

All good on that point but having big issues - transfer between phones didn't bring any of my app or homescreen settings, and so far 2 banking apps won't register biometrics for logon, just giving odd errors - never had issues on any previous phones… not finding anything similar in google searches either!

            • @evanssm2jp: Thanks for the reply.

              Did you use Mi Mover?

              • @88mph: no - when I signed in I used the standard google tool - didn't know about mi mover…

                • +1

@evanssm2jp: Use the inbuilt Mi Mover feature, simplest way to upgrade Xiaomi phones, I've done it few times, within 30 mins, new phone is cloned exactly as old.

It uses a form of wifi-direct to synch everything in your old phone with new. Note, both phones have to be Xiaomi.

                  • @88mph: Tried and been stuck configuring at 30+% for the last hour after the transfer finished… will leave it but doesn't seem to be doing anything… I've configured many apps but even uninstall / reinstall doesn't work..
Westpac and St George apps won't configure passcode or biometrics - they just error. Ebay fails logon.. a few other apps not working and had odd random messages about internet not being available both via data/wifi… Most frustrating phone change I've had!.

                    • @evanssm2jp: Finally almost everything working…very odd bug….uninstall apps, reboot, reinstall and re-login/configure… And all good…

                      • @evanssm2jp: Good to hear!

                      • @evanssm2jp: I had similar experiences with my Note 13 Pro but now all the apps are working fine after reinstalls, including all banking apps.

    • POCO F3 no problem with Woolworth Mobile (Telstra)

  • It's cheaper at some other places such as here for $729 with $20 off your order code ''Yes20''.

  • Don't waste money on grey imports now. Recently bought Sony phone and received a message today that it will stop working in 28days.

    • Telstra?

  • Telstra blocked me on 2nd November switched to Vodafone they sent this message

    • That is just shocking, proves the block process is not ending in the foreseeable future

  • Yes they don't want you to buy phones from overseas

  • Ah man, wanted to buy the Xiaomi 14 when I go back to India on December.

  • Aliexpress singles day, if you can still get a coupon this is selling for $579.57 (i literally just punched the confirm button)
