Xiaomi 14T 5G (12GB, 256GB) - Global Version - $799 + $12 Delivery ($779 Delivered with First) @ Kogan

41

This could be expiring today. I'm not sure. Let me know if it isn't. I also posted another deal on Oppo Reno 12. Not sure which is better. Or maybe neither?

Mod: Buy with caution, there are credible reports that this phone will no longer operate on Australian carriers for phone calls and mobile data.

Just a heads up before you buy any international versions of Xiaomi phones https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15873110/redir

According to chat on Whirlpool, this device is blacklisted with all carriers since 3g shutdown

Neg to highlight this comment and scrimshaw's comment that potential buyers need to be aware of.
      No offense to OP.

No offence taken. Thanks for pointing it out tho. I just took for granted that given all the fuss around 3g shutdown, no seller would actively sell blocked devices anymore. And I'm actually shopping because my mother's Reno 5 got blocked. So if I end up buying another blocked phone, imagine the rage I would have lol.

      • Not a problem if your IMEI passed check here https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/3G-Network-Closure-Block…

I would rather assume that all current, and especially new models will be supported. This issue is just a reason for official importer to scare away customers and bring the money to them.

interesting scenario, if you bought the phone and it was blacklisted by carriers, could you get a refund?
On one hand the vendor has advised it is a global version, and you didn't do your research so one could argue its your own fault
On the other hand, the typical consumer may not know it isnt supported just by saying 'global version'

Could ACCC step in and say something like mobile devices being sold in australia need to have a disclaimer stating that they will be blocked by carriers?

The fun part is the law change is driving anti competitive behaviour and while the phone could be supported, the carriers are choosing not to and one could argue they are colluding to control what phones can be used in australia

You are entitled to a refund if you are sold a product that is not fit for purpose, it's part of Aus Consumer Law, it's just that the process of chasing for a refund (or Store credit) is a potential headache, and you do need to expend your own time / effort to fight for you own consumer rights. • Got the 14t Pro last week - no issues with calls with Vodafone, showing 5g in the city, 4g at the outer suburbs.
From their product page, 14T and 14T Pro has the same connectivity specs for 4G to 5G.

You might be right, but NB with the Redmi 13 series, some networks have blocked some versions but not others 0 base model, pro and pro plus being treated inconsistently despite having the same connectivity specs. See this discussion in Whirlpool https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/36yz200w

So it's possible that the 14T and 14TPro might not be both on the blacklist/whitelists. SO far nobody on this forum has tested the 14T (this model) https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3kpyk7mm?p=13

Whirlpool forums have extensive discussion of this. TL:DR is if you're on Telstra, you should be OK, but Optus are blocking a lot of grey import phones, and Voda somewhere in the middle.
      Buy at your own risk.

Nevertheless looks like a brilliant price for 14T

      • Oh wow. I didn't even consider that the carriers could blacklist individual models even if it meets the specs. Guess I got lucky.

        • +1

Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all working off different data/information that they determine themselves. That the heart of the current problem. Based on people's comments it looks like Optus is being the most conservative or has the least amount of data so more phones are blocked from working on Optus than say Telstra.

  • I ordered the 14t pro after having issues with my Xiaomi phones which hopefully is arriving today - I will provide an update once I can test but I was advised by Kogan support that it should work:

    POCO F3:

    amaysim not working (optus)

    true mobile not working (optus)

aldimobile working (if other sims added it stops working)

    Redmi note 10:

    amaysim working (optus)

    aldi mobile not working (telstra)

    true mobile not working (optus)

    Poco X3:

aldimobile working (if other sims added it stops working)

    amaysim not working (optus)

    true mobile not working (optus)

Oddly the True mobile Thai roaming sim (optus) wouldn't work in any of them!

The 14t pro is also a bit cheaper in the sale - $1058 vs $1079 that I paid for the 1tb version

  • It's cheaper at some other places such as here for $729 with $20 off your order code ''Yes20''.
