Completely agree. This product creates dependency on genuine Dymo label rolls.
The saving on the printer will be neutralised in no time due to high label cost.
Good price for 5XL printer typically around $100. Happy shopping :)
Devices are not too bad but don't buy unless you are ready to spend $60 per roll of labels. Genuine labels rolls come with NFC microchip & aftermarket labels will not print on this machine.
I replaced all Dymos at work with Hotlabel printer purchased from amazon , works absolutely fantastic
I'm assuming this is a 'feature' of the new 5XL? I use a 4XL and non-genuine rolls without an issue.
It was the software update that happened on the printer - we had the 5 XL & used to work fine before the update
It's a "feature" off all new 5 series devices, including the Dymo 550. This is why second hand 4 series devices now fetch a significant premium on ebay. So take good care of your 4XL!
Just don't. The NFC thing is so anti-consumer it's ridiculous.
Also next to impossible to share across the network as you NEED to have the Dymo software installed on each machine, even if you create a print queue.If you want brand name - Brother QL series is the goto - but others are mentioning many others available around now.
Horrible devices, I've owned multiple. Buy from some other manufacturer.
They waste heaps of labels configuring themselves. Their software is heavily dated. It's extremely difficult to network. The genuine labels are really expensive, and they'll accuse you of using non-genuine labels to void a warranty claim.
