  • I have a question what would you do if you had a family member living in au for say 4-6 months then live overseas for 6-8 months. What type sim would you get? When they are here they need data and int calls.

    • my understanding is that telstra is probably better in this scenario, as you might not receive calls internationally from boost (due to optus network) unless they add roaming. i believe both will still receive sms but will only be charged if they reply.

if anyone else can also confirm, that would be ideal

      • Nope Boost can receive and make calls overseas using Wifi calling. Just pair it with a data esim and you’re good to go.

        • and wifi calling works for all calls?

@misunderstood98: Yeap works for all calls. Everyone back home was surprised that I was overseas when they called. Was also able to call landline as well which helped with banks.

            • @nightelves: interesting, thanks for sharing, curious how it knows to still use the boost number rather than the one associated to the data sim?

              • @misunderstood98: If you have an iphone you still put your local number as primary and data as the secondary. Enable the data sharing across both so that it uses the wifi calling when you need to make calls and data when you need to surf the internet. Well worth keeping Boost just for this feature. If the other esim has a number and it can to both.

boost is on telstra's full network.

      • I thought boost was on full telstranetwork mvno

For that long of a period you'd want two separate sims. You'd probably do a 180 day sim here (like Lebara) , then a local sim in the remote country. If they are country hopping you might want to look into an e-sim with Roamless.

Id just get an amaysim 30 day plan until the first 6 months, then switch to pay as you go, as you keep the number active for 12 months regardless of use

      • Thanks this is what I wanted to know.

Be careful with this lot. I purchased it on 1 October, but they didn't send it out until 16 October, and Auspost delivered the envelope two days later.

For $5 more I go this with an Optus sim included so I could port out of boost and back in-
