Proudly embraces AI, raises prices during a cost of living crisis without offering a single decent update to stop After Effects from crashing every 40 seconds and offers no one time purchase.

If there ever was a product to obtain through other means, it's this one.

Adobe is the only piece of software that is morally acceptable to yk what

Unless if you are a business $527.64 p.a or $1055.28 p.a is totally overpriced for what you get, there are better, cheaper, permeant alternatives on the market

        Paint.Net replacement for photoshop lol

    • Adobe has to be the worst of the worst abusers of the subscription model. As an almost monopoly, they charge quite frankly ridiculous amounts. No person should be paying over a grand a YEAR. You can buy yourselves Win 11 Pro and 4yrs of MS Office 365 from Microsoft itself!

Coming from someone who has used Adobe CC for the last decade, I can confirm it's an absurd price, particularly given the competition it now has.

It feels like they're 'only just' keeping ahead of the competition in certain areas, have the eco system and leveraging the brand name to warrant maintaining silly pricing.

Note that they will give you the $43.99/month price any time you go on chat, making this even less of a deal.

    • Agreed. Used over the last decade also. And I got it at student price after having a chat with them as I was doing a course on Skillshare at the time. No evidence required. I think if you ask, you will receive (at least for the first year anway).

I'd say their biggest advantage other than brand and name recognition is all the apps under the one stack.

Having left their ecosystem, learning a stack of different tools from all different companies has been challenging, there is definitely some degree of value in having the one umbrella.

  • Whats a good alternative to LR that allows syncing edits across windows and ios?

  • this is not a good deal.

Good luck cancelling outside the "cancellation" window.

Don't be fooled by the monthly price, you are actually locked in for 12 months.

A 12-month commitment is required if the annual, paid monthly or annual, prepaid subscription plan is purchased.

Changed to Affinity with black friday sale last year and couldn't be happier. One time purchase for all platforms. Pair that with DaVinci Resolve and I'm free from Adobe.

    • I'm with Adobe for photoshop & premiere pro. Do you recommend switching? Are they similar in terms of how to use?

      • +3

Affinity Photo has some odd quirks like how it handles masking and smart objects but can replace vanilla photoshop. DaVinci has plenty of YouTube videos to help with the transition from Premiere.

I think this video by Bog on YT explains quite well some of the differences in main workflow on the Affinity Photo vs Photoshop side: https://youtu.be/zabpcOP7H3U?si=AOO_fmfp0IM2SKBl

As for Premiere Pro vs DaVinci, I don't use many of the more advanced features so I probably don't know what's missing from DaVinci, but it overall feels super solid to use.

never heard of Affinity will check it out

    • Just out of curiosity, how much was affinity during Black Friday last year, roughly?

      • +1

Suspect this was it (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/814000), $164 for Affinity Publisher, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer.

        • Yeah that's the one. I use it for Affinity Designer on PC as an alternative to illustrator, and for Affinity Photo on iPad to draw.

Affinity Designer is a pretty solid alternative to Illustrator, although I did find it was missing some more advanced features like 3D object rotations.

Just need a decent Lightroom alternative with database management and I’d be happy, nothing out there I like atm

    • ACDSee worked OK when I used it. Still not as good as LRC though

Changed to Affinity. I think after a couple weeks you'll be as productive.

    • never heard of Affinity will check it out

  • For Mac users, Apple recently purchased Pixelmator Pro, which may be a viable replacement for Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom, depending on your requirements.

Unsure yet whether Apple will continue to charge a fee or simply make it free.

  • You can keep on cancelling and ask for 50% from.support. Have been doing that since 5 years now
