Belkin Surf Wireless N300 Router - Now $5 @ Officeworks - Clearance!

610

Model number: F7D2301 v1

Photo

This was posted last week as a $10 clearance item at OW, but it looks like it's dropped down to $5 now.

I just picked up a couple: one to use as a wireless AP (which I've just set up and is working pretty well), and one as a spare. Not compatible with DD-WRT, but hey, $5!

While there I also picked up a Netgear N150 Wireless USB Adaptor (WNA1100) on clearance for $15.

I got these at the Shepparton store, but it may be available from others.

  • no stock everywhere :(

    • +2

There's some in Queensland… none near Brisbane, though.

Bet you there is more positive votes on this deal than OW has stock in Australia

Few more months and this will be $0.01. Will buy then :)

  • Can't find a proper review but the 10 user reviews on the cnet site aren't very glowing, but hey it's $5 lol.

      5 DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +1

but how much is your time and effort worth.

    • Haha. Would say its not too bad, for casual use. I live in an apartment so do consider range isnt a really big prob. But this is so cheap. I paid, 120 for a N150, 2.5 yrs ago. Then again its 2.5 yrs ago

  • 5 dollars for some junk.

  • +16

Like a bird and shiny things, I get attracted to the word 'Clearance' regardless of what it is.

These routers are crap. Bought one, didn't work. Traded for another one, didn't work. Got refund and bought a Cisco the end.

However price is right so +1!

    • +2

So, +1 to pay for something that doesn't work? Lol

      • That's ozbargain for you :)

    • If you skimp on anything, don't skimp on networking products.

Swapped my cheap OPEN iConnectAccess 621 ADSL2+ modem for a high-end Billion BiPac 7800VDPX and haven't looked back since. I'm getting no time-outs (from constant time-outs), consistent speeds (from inconsistent speeds), unbelievably high speeds (18 Mbps from ~7 Mbps), lowest ping scores (8 Ms from 15-20 Ms) – you get the picture.

  • There seems to be only a couple of stores with any stock here in Queensland. In store only

  • Sounds like the router isn't worth the hassle, I can see someone buying a bunch and reselling on ebay for 15 each.

  • +3

    Not worth the hassle …
Would save my $5 for next clearance and buy something 'more expensive'

  • It looks like an alright paperweight with LEDs…

  • None on the Gold Coast

  • missed out the belkin n300 gigalan router which was $30 :(

  • Can you buy two, and set one up as a repeater?

Even if this is pretty crap, it would surely give me better speeds than my 54G equip?

  • +1

    I got one last time.

Total piece of crap. Couldn't get it to work so just threw in the bin. Not worth the effort of going to pick it up and the hours you waste trying to configure it…

    • And I'm not a Noob when it comes to networking devices. Worked as network engineer previously…

      • Mine has worked from day 1 - bought it home - plugged it in - and good as gold ever since.

I have no previous experience as a network engineer…

          Moral of the story………………

          is you got downvoted.

        • and I think you only got upvoted because of your Homer picture !!

Logitech harmony 600 for $20. Cheapest on staticice is $27. I think it has free shipping for orders over $15…

    • I dont see Free Postage :(

      • It said it somewhere in the checkout.

In your picture, the Bathurst racing chair innthe background, is that going at a similar price? Make playing racing games a lot safer with the 5 point harness setup.

    • That chair actually looks pretty cool :)

      • I bought one the other day. very comfy.

  • +2

Got one 1 year ago. yeah u got 11n but the range is rubbish + wireless disconnect randomly.

If u want some cheap router just buy 3 tier brand like TP-Link or Edimax or whatever.

There is a reason they can't sell this model and need to clear..

  • +2

For $5 you get a wall wart and a cool case for your next arduino project.
    Good value IMHO.

  • I bought this earlier this year and its an average product, I'd suggest using the self healing feature which you can schedule reboots every evening.

Either way if you don't use it as a gateway or access point, think of it as a $5 hub/switch! So +1 from me

  • It has to be worth at least the $5 for parts alone!!!
I'll have to check out what power supply it comes with!!!

  • Tried the OW stores around me for the router."none in stock" damn seagulls lol :)

    • What area's that in?

  • Good deal if it works, but like others have said, bought one for relatives and couldn't get it working. not a noob etc

    • +6

So there's bad news and good news. Bad news is that it doesn't work. Good news is there is no stock.

  • OW is also selling a $5 Virgin Prepaid Phone. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pho…

  • does this have a modem inbuilt? i just want a router.

anyone have a link for the clearance section?

  • Picked up the N150 during HN's $18 clearance sale during an emergency wireless AP need- setup was easy and initially worked well, after 2 months for no apparent reason (without changing settings) it would have some sort of error every 10 minutes and need a reboot- no new firmware to update, didn't change after factory reset. Couldn't be bothered returning so just went back to my Billion modem/router.

Served it's purpose for $18 (short term use) but if not required I wouldn't bother with it presuming N150 and N300 quality is the same.

  • Harvey Norman just pricematched at Broadway!

    • For $5? Receipt please…

  • So I have a billion modem in the study and some Sony HT equipment in the lounge one of the sonys has a wireless adapter plugged into it and streams the iview(sometimes this stops working don't know if its due to being wireless or bigpongs fault)

Could I instead put this N300 router in the lounge have it recieve the wireless from the study and then distribute it by wired connection the the HT equipment would this result in a better sony iview experience?

  • Does this have a modem built in ? Is it a modem router or just a router?
