Does Anybody Else Here Think That 'Black Friday' and 'Prime Day' Are itshay?

Thanks to OzBargain, I can find bargains year-round.

So much so that the Prime Day, etc, all pale in comparison.

This is part of Amazon Prime Day sale for 2024

shouldn't it be hitsay? instead of itshay

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too

    • No? It's pig latin used by the lad and eshay subculture that goes back decades. It's not generational. I'm Gen Z and when I was a kid, I heard Millennials use it. And the Millennials probably heard Gen X use it. The majority of active members of the subculture aren't even Gen Z now, it's Gen Alpha. But Gen Alpha slang isn't associated with that subculture.

    • is this a gen z slang

Actually instances of "itshay" as pidgin English can be found as far back as the 1950s - and likely even much older than that.

  • I like Prime Day because you can guarantee the Biozet laundry liquid will be 60% off.

Yes, good to stock up for Kris Kringle gifts…

  • I pick up a few staples each year and generally end up with a few impulse purchases - I think Prime day is better than your average sale.

For things I want/need i'll generally have watches set up or purchase with the aim of using price protection. I've very rarely purchased something in this category from a major sale.

    • Prime day purchases are for shmucks who buy things without thinking, which ends up being an inflated cost without actually saving much at all.

      • Really depends - stuff I've bought from Amazon sales has been below normal price and increased afterwards.

But yeah, the large majority of items are not that great a deal.

Must be a Coutura watch wearer thing. Get off the gear. FFS

Like I say to my daughter… "Everyone has to have a 'gimmick'" For some, it's the really cool word they found on the internet and made it their own and use every chance to inject it into any situation hoping it will take off like a forced meme…

The gimmick doesn't have to be good, often it's a case of being bad that makes it "memorable"…

      • +2

        That makes sense. Cheers

  • definitely don't get as good deals as a few years ago but at least i can (almost) be guaranteed a deal for the specific things I want to buy that aren't as cheap any other time of the year.
