Spotted this when I looked at B&H Photo Video's newsletter this morning. Panasonic Lumix DMC-DH2 Digital Camera (Black) for USD $499.00 (with $400 instance saving) + USD $58.06 postage to Australia = ~AUD$531 delivered.

Product Highlights

  • 16.05MP Live MOS Sensor
  • 3" Free-Angle LCD W/460,000 Dots
  • 1920x1080 60i HD Video
  • Fastest Level of Light Speed AF
  • High Sensitivity Up to ISO 12800
  • Touch Screen Control for Stills/Video
  • iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode Stills/Video
  • Dust Reduction System
  • Dolby Stereo Sound W/Video

It's micro four third and mirrorless. It's also a 2 year old camera (released Oct 2010) which I guess is the reason B&H heavily discount it. It has got its own Wikipedia entry for more information.

  • Reviews from Google — 11x 5 stars, 4x 4 stars and 1x 3 stars.

    That's ridiculously cheap.

However you'll need to find a bargain lens first!

    • True. My head hurts whenever I think about how expensive lenses are. Those Panasonic LUMIX G Vario ones aren't cheap…

  • I have had a play with a mates great little shooter, very easy to use for first time DSLR users. at that price a bargain.

I'd still rather get the g3 from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87398
Unless you're a video person, g3 has the edge in still photography. Especially in low light.
On the otherhand, it has one less dial which means you have to use the touch screen (im not a fan of them)

    • Please correct me if I am wrong but GH2 and G3 cameras are in completely different leagues ?
Hence, G3 is significantly cheaper than GH2.

      • Nope, same league.
If you take a look at the cameras, internally, the GH2 has a bigger sensor, but G3 still shoots better in low light. GH2 shoots 5fps instead of 4fps on the G3 (Big WOW).

For still shots, most things which the GH2 can do, G3 can do.

Only for videos, GH2 is far better than G3 in terms of performance. It also has an external mic jack.

So, imo, for stills, get G3 and spend the saved money on better glass, for videos, get GH2

  • This is the best price I have seen. Amazing video camera, I picked it up for $700 a month ago

  • Good deal if you need a camera with good video capabilities (who doesn't ?).
