        He's not all there

      • MG ZS EV. You can buy a used demo for $21k.

    • -8

160km range. Good luck. They say 220km range in specs but it’s actually 160km if you’ve owned one. Plus battery depreciates a few % every year so that gets lower. Sit at charging stations twice a week.

    • All yours brother. Keep buying this. to be HONESTL, we are happy for you lol

  • MG4 at $32,990 worth a mention too, if anyone was looking at EV option.

  • +4

Use it then throw away when starts to breadown. Just like Kmart $4 T shirts.

  • +5

Does MG stand for Motoring Garbage?

    • -2

The 10 year warranty is misleading. Read the actual document, there’s a range of issues that MG won’t cover.

    • +3

Just like all the mechanics in the 80s said to stay away from Japanese cars

Glad we all listened to them then!

      • Japanese then Korean car has been proven during these years, and how about Chinese?

        • At some point, Japanese, then Korean cars became reliable, after a period of not. Chinese are probably near that point.

      • Yeh stay away from early Japanese cars still applies (120Y etc anyone?)

    • they say: as a high school dropout, i dont know how to service the Chinese cars; they are technically too advanced… oh well as least those Chinese EVs and PHEVs are.

      SB!

      • I wouldn't be saying that with your post history.

  • +6

There's a pricepoint where that you can't look past it without saying its a good deal even if the car isn't the best. 20k cant even net you a 'newer' used car if its the other 'big brands'. I was checking out hybrid toyotas the other day and damn the prices I definitely wouldnt pay given that they are second hand.

Sure its a Chinese car so what.

Last time I chatted with a mechanic buddy whos being in the trade for like 15+ years and asked his thoughts on Chinese cars. He told me this (or something to that effect):

'You get what you pay for, there are issues, years back we used to see batches with manufacturing defects, but as long as its within warranty, then its no big deal, definitely wouldn't get one without warranty so dont even think about getting them second hand for a cheap drive.'

This one have a 10 year warranty so I mean?????hell yeah???? unless we got another mechanic guy pitching in here.

    • -1

Warranty is only as good as the manufacturer honoring it and not doing excuse gymnastics to avoid it. This is already happening with the previous MG3.

    • but as long as its within warranty, then its no big deal
This one have a 10 year warranty so I mean?????hell yeah???? unless we got another mechanic guy pitching in here.

This always comes up with these "MG has the best cheapest car now with a 100000 year warranty" posts and it's exhausting.

The warranty is only as good as the company that's willing to honor it. Would you be happy waiting 6 months for a part? But hey it's UnDeR WaRraNtY right?

      • +3

You have ACCC to cover your ass in this case,

        • +1

Tell me one person who wants to go through that process?

  • +1

Alot car deals in the last few days.
Let's wait and see what the Japanese, Korean and German will be doing.

    • +3

Putting their prices up because comments like in this post emboldens them

    • +3

Playing make belief and pretending like it's COVID times in which cost of living crisis really isn't a thing and all cars have 2+ year wait times so they can overcharge you!

They still think that every man and their dogs are dropping $50k+ on brand new cars these days because they don't have anything better to do with their money

  • +1

    Any fine prints about warranty?
There can be tricky terms and you end up not covered with expensive parts after few years.

  • -2

    Now with 10 years warranty.

Do they accept Afterpay over 10 years?

  • +3

be me. See a massively upvoted really cheap SUV. See that it has 2 downvotes/negs. Scroll through comments searching for 2 negs to see if they have a point. Somewhat.

  • +2

MG is like Kia was back in 2003. Good enough for most, but still a long way to go. Quality and style lifting with every generation. They will continue and eventually you'll be paying 45k for a MG3 in the year 2045. Assuming we're all still here

    • Chinese have much more effective Collaborative system & are already ahead of most.

    • -1

Chinese must sell cheap to compete, just like Hyundai before when they become the 1st car manufacturer who offering 5 years warranty.

  • +4

MG4 is a better bargain atm

    • Only if you hold it until the battery dies cos MG will keep slashing prices so lousy residual value especially after warranty runs out. At least BYD has some care for their brand

    • Way more expensive though

  • -6

The CCP thanks Australia for allowing this rubbish on our roads

    • if it is cheap enough someone will buy it

at least good for 10 years

      • +1

at least good for 10 years

        doubt

        • +1

warranty but issue is taking it back to get those repairs done

  • +1

I remember when a brand new Corolla manual used to be this price in the early 2000s

    • My pay was half what it is now… so that Corolla was no where near a bargain back then!

    • +5

Early 2000s? As recently as 2018 a Corolla was $20k.

      • was it? Didn't know it was possible

  • +1

This or chery tiggo 4 for $23,990 ?

    • Test drive both. We went the Excite.

    • +3

Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is a much better car, comes with a full safety pack along with a much more powerful turbo 1.5-litre engine. The interior of Tiggo 4 is much better presented as well. This car lacks a few safety features.

  • I wish we could get away from stating it's an SUV like that gives it any extra credibility at all. It's a car. Is it the cheapest one? If not get the other which is cheaper or actually maybe buy something worth owning.

  • My mates all work in the auto industry as mechanics, parts interpreters etc for large multi brand dealerships.

They cannot speak poorly enough of MG. The amount of them that sit in the shop for ages waiting months for parts. The second hand car yard is overflowing with them due to the sheer amounts of tradeins.

Not to mention the feedback they hear regarding warranty claims through MG themselves.

When I told them my parents were considering an mg3 they told me to immediately put them on the phone to talk some sense into them

    • +1

The amount of them that sit in the shop for ages waiting months for parts.

Breach of Australian Consumer Guarantee. Would be entitled to a refund. Take them to court.

    • im hearing alot of negative about the mg

not hearing any reccommendations of alternatives

      • GWM/Haval. But not as cheap.

  • That instant depreciation is going to sting.

    • Don't even know if you are joking. 🤔

      • +2

For current owners of this model

  • 1.5l engine but lowest price for a suv?

  • What was it priced at before?

    • like $24k from memory

  • Can I buy this car and become an Uber driver? Will I get riders?

    • +12

No. They will probably cancel when they see the car

      • +6

Can confirm. Long time Uber Passenger. If you don't drive at the bare minimum a BMW 5 series or a Mercedes Benz E-class don't even think of pulling up next to me.

  • What's happening 🤔, imagine who purchaed it last month.

  • Forget about value for money, resale value, where it's built, etc. Go test drive it for as long as possible and check it out in person. Fold the rear seats down. Find a comfortable driving position. Pay attention to where your left foot would go and how the seatbelt sits across your body. As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of this car.

  • +1

buy now and pay later or get an ignis for $1.5k more, or maybe cheaper than one of these thru a broker. how many of the upvoters are gonna buy one anyway?

  • 3 of these vs 1 byd shark.

  • -1

    Shit car don't bother

  • -8

And this is exactly how you get tariffed. Another stupid Chinese company cutting prices when they dont need to. Everything is expensive for the average Joe in 2024, why would you be stupid enough to bring back 2015 prices when you can and have already charged more. Simply lining up and just asking for governments to slap them with tariff and national security sanctions.

    • +2

So who are you trying to protect?

  • +8

84 kW with 4 speed automatic spells excite in any language.

  • +4

I just browsed the replys and found some comments that made me feel uncomfortable. If you check the historical OzBargain posts from the past years, you can easily see how much progress China has made. You may have started by getting your clothes made in China, then moved on to small gadgets, appliances, and electronics; nowadays, they produce high-tech products and cars; you should already can feel what they'll bring to us tomorrow..What a miracle they have achieved in just a decade or so! Meanwhile, here in Australia, it’s disheartening to see some people still holding onto their biases and using sarcastic language. Some comments even indicate a lack of education. Wake up, mates, set aside your biases and face the world!

    • +2

The bias is more often than not directed at the authoritarian system of goverment which over the years has slowly eroded the best of Chinese culture and ethics and created this us vs everyone else mentality.

      • No intention to discuss politics here, and shouldn’t be here…the fact is, the Chinese products are here, it’s totally your choice to buy or not to buy. No one is gonna force you.

      • That's your opinion

      • Lmao this guy with his fake pity, never step foot in China and he KNOWS China's 'culture' and 'ethics' have been eroded haha.
What a joke, China have lifted their population out of the dark ages, had to build their own Space station because of the exact us vs them mentality put on them

        • -1

          50c for you.

PS China got its big boost when the Americans (for their own selfish reasons) got them into the WTO and foreign companies started investing heavily there. It wouldn't have been able to lift itself up otherwise.

          • +1

@gadget: wow you got me good.

Of course you addressed nothing I said, standard.

            • @TightAl: Nothing to address as far as I can see. Have a nice day!

  • +3

A Toyota camry now with fake leather seats is $60k. Let that sink in.

    • Well Mercs have come with fake leather since the 60s?

And if you don't like leather the base Camry is like 44k? Not much more than a mid spec Mazda 3 these days.

      • +2

A $60k Camry or the new BYD PHEV Shark Ute for $60k?

    • Fairly sure all cars use artificial leather nowadays, and have for a while. Otherwise they can't sell the cars to certain people and/or countries.

  • Service is similar or slighly cheaper than EV MG4, mostly from $250-$350 every 12 months. Why? shouldn't EV less things to service?

    • A friend that works for BYD said that Dealerships freaked out when EV manufacturers early on said no need for servicing apart from cabin filters that customer can do themselves and coolant flush every 5-10 years. Dealerships panicked so much as Servicing is their bread and butter, that manufacturers were forced to implement yearly 'fake services' on EV models and manufacturers were forced by dealerships to make the parts less robust so it needs servicing or replacement. A good example is coolant flushes, manufacturers early on designed a system with an engineering solution to eliminate coolant flushes in EV vehicles but dealerships didn't want that as they lose that $700 coolant flush service that takes then 15 mins to do so it was implemented as a required service. They have advanced coolant innovations and coolant engineering solutions to pretty much never needing a coolant change but damn dealerships…won't let the manufacturers implement these more robust solutions.

      • Dodgy we need the models that need minimal servicing. Which ones? Got a list?

        • All dealerships. Servicing is their bread and butter. Even if it's for a $5 filter and a 'check check check' service. Free $350 into dealerships pockets. Can't blame them, I would do the same if I was a dealership owner. II would also force manufacturers to 'invent' fake servicing schedules for EV's.

  • My Aldi microwave popcorn will get some good use tonight mmm tasty

  • Do these all have the acceleration issue. I've test drived one and know someone who has one. Same issue on both.

  • +1

Fuark moi that's cheap. I bought a second hand 2015 Honda Accord from a dealer this year for $17k. Nice car, but still … a new car with 10y warranty for $20k. That's nuts.

    • I sold my 2012 Camry for $15k last year. I bought it $17k in 2015. People are so crazy about a Toyota or Japanese car.

      • -1

Yup, if saving money was a concern, the only car the world should buy now is a Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid. I bought mine for $53k 2 years ago, I can sell it now for the same price even after 2 years and 41,000km. $0 depreciation. Free car for 2 years. I am really thinking of selling it and putting a deposit on the new model coming next year. Whilst my friend who bought a MG HS Phev for $45k with a lot more tech than the Rav 4 2 years ago, he would be lucky to get $27k for it after just 2 years and just 30,000km. $18,000 loss in 2 years even though his car was $8,000 cheaper than my car new and has more features then my Rav 4 Hybrid, drives better and also has more tech than my Rav 4 Hybrid. It's nuts. He told me that he can't sell it and upgrade to a new car without taking a substantial loss. So he is forced to keep it for a decade and run it into the ground now.

      • Got to like Honda after having my CL9 (original) Honda Accord Euro for 19 years with no major issues. Still drives nicely, but but now wife has it (and treats it like a shopping trolley, which makes me weep). So needed another car … couldn't justify the price of a new Honda tho. Ouch.

      • Something doesn't add up in your story. A new Camry in 2012 was at least $30,000. Yet you bought one for $17k after just 3 years? That's over 45% loss of value in 3 years, on a Camry. Even in 2015 resale values weren't that bad.

        • the one I bought has added touch screen it wasn't even the basic one. At that time the really basic one was about $15k to $16k for a 2 years old Camry. my was manufactured in the end of 2012 I bought in mid 2015 so less than 3 years. when I bought it, it stillhas the 3 years new car warranty. and also at that time the new Camry was on special. it was about 26k for a level higher than the basic level one.

    • -2

MG it's very bad car I can tell you

      • +3

Do tell. I am interested in, time of purchase, how many years of ownership. model of MG. Tell us about what happened, issues with servicing? Cost of servicing? Fuel use? Vibration noise? I would like to know your experience, do share it.

        • -3

Just go and try it when you do car hire at Eurocar. It's not that hard. Uncomfortable, stiff steering, aesthetic is not there. Indicator is on the left like European cars. Engine rattles and noisy.

          The quality is not there

This is a new one with less than 2k km done MG3 model

          • +2

@neonlight: So you took a rental out. And also not this model? A totally different model? Anyway, how much do those MG3 vehicles cost and compared to a new similar car from a Japanese manufacturer, can you advise how much less they are?

  • -3

    Is this an EV?

  • -1

China will take over EV market within 5 years.

Jap car makers would probably be bankrupt in that 5 years….unless nukes start flying.

China makes everything for cheap and floods the planet.

How you compete ? Say they dropped this to $15,000 and it proved itself who will buy a dogbox second hand car for 15k or how can jap car makers offer anything for 15k. They can't.

    Goodnight

    • the issue is Jap cars are too expensive. Toyota is so greedy. no price negotiation, increase the price very frequently even Jap yen exchange rate plummeted. long waiting time and when they increase the price you have to pay the higher price even if you paid the deposit. I am happy to see more competition. Who care whether Jap car is bankrupt or not. I just want to buy a better value car.

      • JPY in the hole and their prices have increased 50%, effectively doubling the price of their 2000's technology cars.

  • +1

    1994 Hyundai Excel 1.5L 4cyl 65kW MT $13,990 drive away
    2024 MG ZS Excite 1.5L 4cyl 84kW AT $20,990 drive away

RBA calculates $14K in 1994 to be the equivalent of $30K today

So 30 years later, MG is selling a larger and better equipped vehicle that is 30% cheaper than the Excel ever was

Regardless of what you "feel" about the country of origin or what you think is "fair", the fact is this MG is VF cheap regardless of competition or general economic conditions

    • Thank the God's for people that are willing to work for Aldi bread money in countries like China and India. Without these people, we would be screwed. This is why inequality is good if you are on the other side. Imagine if they were paid at Australian wage levels living at Australian standards, we would go broke buying things. Yes their lives would be better but our lives would be worse. We need poor people or else the world collapses.

      • +2

The pay is proportional to the cost of living. This is high tech manufacturing, not underwear manufacturing
