Check here to see what kind of nbn is available at the rental. Does it say FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC, Fixed Wireless?

    • +2

it said : nbn® Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) has been used in your connection to the nbn network.

FTTP is the fastest and most stable internet you can get. There is no need to get 5G home internet in this case.

nbn providers that do 100/40 are Aussie BB, Leaptel, Launtel, Superloop and Exetel. 100/20, 250/25, 1000/50, 250/100, 500/200 and 1000/400 speed tiers are also available on nbn FTTP.

        • real question, any recommended provider? Heard some bad exp with Superloop and else

          • +1

            @Guob1n: There's 5 recommended providers…
Aussie BB, Leaptel, Launtel, Superloop and Exetel.

You'll hear bad stories about all ISP's (people complain when something goes wrong) but as a general rule these are all very good to above average in the Australian ISP market.

          • @Guob1n: Superloop's connectivity is good overall. The most common complaints I've seen are about Superloop's overseas based support and having to give 30-days cancellation notice.

How much do you want to spend a month?

            • @Twix: anything below 80-90 is good to me, but since this is Ozbargain I definitely want to find the most valuable for me to use

              • @Guob1n: That would be Leaptel, Superloop and Exetel. Usually you have to swap ISP every 6 to 12 months to get the intro pricing deals.

Its doubtful 5G home broadband is available.
          Very limited, very slow rollout.

          But yes FTTP is perfect

  • What speed do you need ?

    • I have very good experience with 100/40(which the current one my brother registed) So that should be enough? Sorry I don't actually good at this thing

      • Why do you need the higher upload speed?

Do you do a lot of uploading of large files?

        • oh that was my brother registered, so i dont know the reason behind of that. Is there any provider you recommend for my heavy wfh?

          • @Guob1n:

Is there any provider you recommend for my heavy wfh?

Most are the same. Difference is usually customer service.

    • What speed do you need ?

No, that's not the question. It is what speed are you willing to pay for. This is OzBargain. Whether you need it is irrelevant.

  • Given your heavy WFH situation definitely go wired (and therefore probably NBN) for reliability.
50/20 would be sufficient, 100/20 obviously preferable.

The rest depends on your budget I guess, but ideally steer clear of the absolute bottom feeders as connecting to a new NBN service is arguably one of the few times you might NEED good customer service.

    Are you living alone?

Im on a 25/4 plan and this is enough for me and my mother. She uses the phone only.

I use it for online gaming and Netflix and youtube. This is enough.

I was on a 50/20 plan but there's not really a difference with noticeable steaming and browsing speeds.

"Mainly IT wfh, my partner wfh 3 days/w, other 2 ppl at the same house with some gaming things"

50/20 might cut it, but 100/40 is only like $10 more a month these days.

      • +1

Yeah then 50mbps should be fine. 100mbps may be overkill.

But even then people are fine on 25mbps with 2 people even wfh depending how internet hungry they are

        • +1

My nbn provider charges $5 more a month for 100 over 50, so for $1.25 extra per person a month, I'd go 100

May come in handy when everyone is using the internet at the same time.

  • +2

    100/40 for 4 adults. less than a $1 a day per person.

Copied from above but Aussie BB, Leaptel, Launtel, Superloop and Exetel are all decent.

use More Telecom if you are a CBA customer, you can get a 30%-40% discount

    • +1

      Not all CBA customers.

        https://www.more.com.au/personal/nbn-plans

ah yeah it looks like 20%, there is a switch here to select whether you are a CBA customer.

Sign up with a CommBank credit or debit card by 28/02/25 and continue to use an eligible CommBank online bill payment method to receive 20% off your nbn® plan fees for 12 months, then 10% off ongoing

That offer in yello is better if you have that.

        • 40% off for 12 months with the yello offer.

I'll be churning thereafter, although have learned my lesson with superloop and their 30 day notice cancellation policy.

          • @JimB: 40% offer is only with a mortgage.

            • @bazingaa: One perk of having a mortgage lol

              • @JimB: lol I am on the same plan, $69 for 250. It was $81 for 1000

                • @bazingaa: I'm too cheap. I'm on the $58 100/20 plan.

    • +2

huge! got 40% off for 100/40 cap at 65/m

    • +2

Thanks a bunch for this! I always forget to look in the app… got 35% off just signed up with free upgrade to FTTP. Much appreciated reminder!

Compare & check out NBN plans at
    https://www.whistleout.com.au/

I did my comparison there and selected the value for money plan that I needed.

      😲

Why would it be against the rules?

If you have NBN FTTP, then get that. Don't bother with 5g or wireless. Cable is always better than wireless.

  • +1

If you have FTTP then don't forget you can have more than one isp connected. With Launtel you will get 7 days free trial. You pay by the day and can pause etc the service. Minimum speed is 100/20. Just saying if you are on say 50/20 with another isp and then work from home and need a boost just turn the Launtel 1000/50 on the night before and just pay for the days it is on? Just a thought, but only with FTTP.
