Just be aware some of the cheaper bikes have steel spokes, cranks, handlebars & seatpost which always rust.

I'd recommend to never buy a bike with steel spokes and cranks, better to buy one with stainless steel spokes & aluminium cranks.

based on this advice, "Urban X0 Hybrid Bike Black" seems to be a good choice?

      • +8

You might want to look through the old posts before deciding to buy. Lots of bad feedback & the Rep hardly ever replies.

        • Thanks I won't be buying one now!

    • +3

      any bargain ?

    • +2

Both wife and daughter have 2 of the cheaper Reid bikes, must be 5yrs old by now and no rust on them.
Then again they make sure that if the bikes are wet after a ride they get dried and lubricated if needed .

      • -1

Yeah, wife had one of the X126's for almost 7 years, sold it a fews ago during a garage cleanout - no issues with it

Does WatchNerd work for a competitor?

        • +12

Yes my 13 years as an OzB member & 887 deal posts, not one (from memory) is a bike post is just a disguise so I can bag out Reid, lol.

          • -4

@WatchNerd: Ummm you post on all of their posts bagging them out? Was a serious question - not sure why years on here or post count mean anything? Just seem like a bit of a pattern

You seem to just hammer them when you obviously have zero intention to buy one of their products?

            • +1

@the-fuzz: I checked the commenting guidelines & there's no rule to say you can't comment on a post if you have no intention to buy.

Members history definitely means something otherwise it wouldn't all be kept on record. No different to your reputation in real life.

              • -4

@WatchNerd: Why comment on all of their posts? Serious question

                • +5

@the-fuzz: WN posts on TONS of deals bagging them out, what makes you think Reid cycles is special?

If comments were only allowed from people who intend to buy something, it would be a pretty empty forum!

                • +3

@the-fuzz: Bee doo bee doo bee dooo… Look out!! The comment police are here…

Why comment on all of their posts?

Perhaps it's an open forum and people are allowed to comment?

You seem to just hammer them when you obviously have zero intention to buy one of their products?

So, the bar now is, if you have an issue with a product, company or deal, the minimum requirement is you cant leave a comment unless you have at least the "intention" to buy? Maybe to comment on deals, we all need to upload our receipts?

            • +1

              @the-fuzz:

not sure why years on here or post count mean anything?

It's highly relevant. You are accusing WN of being a competing bike store, yet out of the ~900 deals WN has posted, not a single one was a bike, or bike-related deal. And is not associated to any of them.

Some people are yet to get off 0 posts in all the years they have been on here. WN has contributed a lot to this community.

Does WatchNerd work for a competitor?

Cell Bikes died ages ago. There isn't really another brand in this segment. (Cheap bikes built by people who actually know how to build bikes)

Reid city bike which I bought in 2017 was fine as long as stored inside the house. The moment I put under the pergola, it rusted.

Also would like to know what improvements have been made to the ladies vintage bike to justify the price jacking, now $299.99?

VINTAGE - Classic Vintage FROM $223.99
These ladies vintage bikes (steel frame) are really poor quality & even at this price they are not a bargain.
Many parts are steel including the handlebars, spokes & front cog which always rust.
Also they were posted for $199.99 last year so another reason why it's not a bargain.

These prices aren't really bargains because they're always on sale.

Thanks, I ordered a Rapid Flatbar

Nothing for the kids unfortunately. Sad black Friday sale imo

  • +6

This is crazy. I put my details into the checkout to calculate shipping, did not buy anything.

20 minutes later I get a marketing email. I did not create an account.

    ridiculous tbh

    • I highly doubt that this is legal. Unless you ticked a box to marketing.

      • Yeah, I would have had the "Email me with news and offers" box ticked

At no point did I sign up, buy anything or save

It's just this annoying af grey area that they're exploiting.

        • +2

Sites capture those details for free marketing. You can do the +Reidcycles trick with Gmail to help you track this stuff.

Always use fakes details until you commit to buy.

        • +1

Unfortunately very common, always get those "you left something behind!" emails… annoying.

Come on, Black Friday? Might as well call it Black November, we are 29 days away from Black Friday, what sales are you going to have on the actual Black Friday?

    • +1

      99% off

      HODL

Nothing special about this sale or any other Reid sale. Everything is always on permanent sale… but you do get a free $5 helmet.

Funny how they ask for your email address before your physical address, common practice nowadays when you want to check shipping. or decide not to push the order button.

    • But you don’t need to add an email to check shipping costs.
Add item to cart go to checkout, stick in some random address near your own location and see shipping costs.

    • +1

i always just enter a fake email for those situations.

  • Rapid Flatbar Bike Black

it doesn't even have reflectors on front and back which are very cheap. be cautions when driving / riding night.

using one since 2019, still going strong.

The Vantage 3.0 for $1,599 with full Shimano R7000 105 11-speed (including hydraulic brakes) seems like a pretty decent roadie for the $$$…

    • +1

I'm impressed with the granite 4.0.

    • +2

It is good. I have an earlier model. Done over 10,000 km as an obese rider. Upgraded to a carbon di2 bike

  • +3

My REID Blacktop 2 battery lasted 4km before glitching out. It was an error that repeated infallibly. It also took them 6 months so send me a backup key to remove said battery.
They sell rebranded bottom shelf imports.

    • Infallible error - sounds like an oxymoron to me.

    Tract 4 Mountain Bike
    Considering its specifications and cost,
    it's quite appealing to me.

    • +2

Deore m6100 12 speed groupset and shifters, add the Tektro disc brakes etc and that would be the price they are asking for the whole bike wouldn't it? I wonder what the catch is? The frame is 6061 Aluminium, not steel. Does it have terrible geometry?

It was $799 in May. So $599 is $200 off the usual 'sale' price.

I've had good experiences with their bikes…

Got the Transit WSD for the wife a few years ago (non LE model) for $410.

Now $360 for the current model.. seems good:

The E-Trail 2.0 eBike Charcoal has an Ananda M100 mid drive motor that puts out 110Nm of power.
Unfortunately it's speed limited to 25kph. The cost is "from" $1,999.99, this is only for the small size, all other sizes M,L,XL come in at $2,499.99.
I would like to think they could drop the price of the larger size frames upon request or spirited negotiation!
The reviews seem good, 110Nm on a 29er mountain bike would be plenty of power to climb the steepest of hills.

  • They can only discount stock on hand and sales are to move slow or excess stock.

The Ananda M100 is an excellent motor and MY23 E-Trail a big improvement. Easy to speed hack.
