Damn that feels like a lot of laptop for the money!

  • Top it with 15% cashback at TCB…

    • +6

I think Education store isn't eligible for cashback

      • +6

Purchases via the Lenovo Education Store, Outlet Store and any Employee Purchase Programs such as corporate partner stores are ineligible for cashback.

  • +8

Anyone seen a 14ish inch version? Just the absolute perfect laptop, just not portable enough for client meetings etc (which it's not designed for, of course!)

  • -1

Can't find how much it weighs on the Lenovo website

    • +3

      About 1.89KG.

      • I ordered the Pro 5 16" which starts at 1.91kg. Id have expected the slim to be much lighter.

  • +7

    2048x1028?? 😂

    • +4

      It's 2048 x 1280, not x 1028. It's the exact same 16:10 ratio as the common 1920 x 1200 resolution found on 16" laptops but with a few more pixels thrown in.

A bit odd but shouldn't be an issue for most people.

      • -1

I had a big issue with screen repairs on lenovo laptop.
The repair bill is almost as much of the laptop!
Please make sure you get a standard laptop size screen (so no 2.8k, even wary of 2k tbh).

        • Not sure why the down vote, but I bought a laptop for $1,000 and they wanted $700 to repair the screen.
I got downvoted when I added this comment originally to another post (with people disputing it). But yet when i started to discuss it my last post was upvoted.
They told me it was expensive because the screen was overseas.
I asked if they sent it via airplane seat, because they could put in the cargo hold.

  • +1

Any other size that has centered touchpad?

    • +2

      Preach!
Offset touchpad is a brain melt

  • does this stack with new users 10% off

  • Yesterday I bought this with 512GB and finger print reader, total $1236. Chatted with agent, it can't offer further discount.

    • Whats the anticipated battery life for doing office work/ watching youtube etc.?

  • +3

    That’s a weird resolution

    • +2

It's closest to something called 2K (2048x1080). That's not the same as 1440p (2560 x 1440) which is a higher res. At best I'd call it a nicer FHD. At 400 NITS FHD content should look pretty good on a 16in display.

      • I can’t believe 2k caught on for 2560x1440 resolution.
Fun fact, 1080p IS 2k, since the horizontal value (1920) is closest to 2k, or 2000.
        16:9 1440p should’ve been called 2.5k instead of 2k.

    • be aware of repair bills if you hurt the screen and need a replacement.

      • +1

I opted for the upgrade to 3 year onsite for $100. Don't normally buy extended warranty but in this case I thought it might make sense

  • No 4060….

    • +2

A GPU means low battery life and more weight.

    • +2

It doesn't need it. The 780M can perform most of online gaming.

      • +2

Whoever negged this guy needs to go outside. Radeon 780m is perfectly fine for competitive games, since most major esports titles optimise for the lowest common denominator of computers.
So long as you have a life outside of competitive gaming, this is more than enough.

  • +1

Mine arrived yesterday. I got it during a Shop back Lenovo promo a few weeks ago but via the normal store which was nice. Very good machine but also consider the Pro version during black friday if you can wait.

    • +1

Looks like a killer laptop! Apparently the oled panels on these use PWM for dimming. Do you experience any noticeable eye strain? And how does the resolution look on a 16" screen?

      • It's a beautiful screen. I have it in front of an AOC QHD monitor and the Lenovo screen is vastly superior

    • +4

what is the advantage of pro version?

    • Hows the battery?

  • +1

Got very similar one from AliExpress (Xiaoxin subbrand) earlier this year.

Screen different resolution being 2560x1600 and not OLED, and officially 7840HS CPU (which is the same as this one just rebranded).

Paid about $1300 which I already thought was a great deal, as local equivalents were closer to $2k.

Already dropped it once though which bent the frame a little haha - still works fine however.

  • I assume you need an .edu email address to buy this? A friend is starting her studies next January and I'm wondering if she can buy this before then.

    • One of the institutions I attended gave me a .edu email account with my application to a course (via their website), another only gave me an email account upon admission. Worse comes to worse, just apply at several institutions and cancel after you get your discount 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Does anyone have a current openapi link to view these deals that they can PM me? Please and Thank you! 😁

    just to compare ..https://www.metabox.com.au/store/b508/note-One-2-Laptop

    • Fhd 60hz, but 64gb ram.

I do miss clevo/sager/metabox from back in the day when they shoved thermal throttling packages together.

    • Thanks for that.

I am currently looking for a new laptop but would like a little bit more graphic power. Why would I not go with the note 3 instead? https://www.metabox.com.au/store/b503/note-Three-1-Laptop

I guess you still need to pay for Windows which brings the price up to $1,689 but would the extra $400 compared to this deal not be worth it?

Maybe best to wait for Black Friday at this point in time.

      • +1

I guess you still need to pay for Windows

Paying for Windows in 2024 is crazy

        Windows activation scripts, brother

Just realised how thoroughly decent the 780m seems for gaming!

  • Wish I was still a student to capitalise on this… whatever

  • My daughter begins high school next year and needs a laptop. Is 16" too big?

    • For a 12 year old, yeah 16" laptop is way too big. It is $2kg and too clunky

Get her a MacBook air. Battery will last forever and she won't feel left out since all her friends will have macs l

      • Can add my 2c - definitely get Mac Air 13 if you don't care about parental control. Battery life on ARM and weight would be a killer comparing to any Windows Intel/AMD.
Though I still didn't find any parental control apps for Mac that would actually control anything and not be cheated

    • +1

My son is year 7 this year and we bought him this laptop (intel ultra 7 chip instead). He love it. screen is beautiful and I am comparing with my 2023 macbook pro 16". Their school use laptop almost all subjects at class so bigger screen is better in my opinion especially with this weight. Battery last full day easily.

    • Would argue 14" is the sweet spot for high school, keep in mind your kid will have to lug that around with books, bottle, lunch, etc. Will definitely need a bigger backpack.

      • +2

14 is the sweet spot for everyone probably.

  • 1.9kg?

  • What’s the shipping time like? Will it make it to me for TRS if I fly out in 22 days?

    • TRS allow you to buy within 60 days + value over $300

      • Yeah but u have to actually take the laptop out of the country… and if it doesn’t ship in time for that then cant do TRS…

        • They say usually ship in 6-9 days. It's abnormal to receive a laptop more than 22 days.

    • I ordered 17th arrived 28th

  • Which has a better build? IdeaPad Slim or Pro?
Needs to stand up to daily uni commute.

  • Crazy price

  • No thunderbolt 4 by the looks of it

  • Wait for black friday or pull the trigger on this?

  • This or the ips deal for 1299? I bought the latter with 13% cashback but can cancel. General home use and light music production.

    • +1

I have cancelled the 1299 and bought this one because of the oled.

      • Leaning that way also for the bigger ssd. I should have upgraded to 1tb and didnt. Went to upgrade today through topcashback and wait is now 5 to 6 weeks.

        • +1

topcashback won't track as it is educational channel.

          • @paddywide: Yes i meant upgrade the ips option from last week which was normal store ;)

    • OLED is nice but it is glare.
On a sunny day you will see your face reflection instead of anything else … Plus all the fingerprints…
I'm still cannot decide myself which one to buy IPS or OLED. I just hate glare screens :(

      • Yes noticed that but i wont use outside

        • It is the same inside when you sit near the window. But yeah, if you always close the blinds it should be fine
Just comparing my work MacBook pro and personal Lenovo with matte IPS and cannot decide myself which is better to grab for a family member

          • @kanu666: Good point, though I figured it cant do everything at this price so i dont think most users will go wrong with either deal! I was happy with the IPS but was a hassle to change my original order to 1tb as the wait times blew out

  • how to get edu email?

  • -3

the low res screen destroys this otherwise perfect speced laptop

    • +2

      It's a 16" screen not 46"…

      • Its pretty low for a high end speced laptop standards, this is basically FHD, if its a gaming laptop I sort of understand the pairing, but as a productivity machine even the 14" have 2.2 - 2.8k screens.

  • That's perfect. I was undecided whether to buy a gaming laptop or workstation and ended up buying HP omen with 4070 for $1800. Had I seen this deal, I might've chosen this one

  • But I have no access to the education store.

  • +1

PSA you only need to login with an edu email address. You can change the order email address during checkout. My edu email will be switched off soon so i placed the order with my personal outlook account, no confirmation to uni email, all came to personal account. Reduces the hassle of using a kids' school account for example as you will have the order details linked to your personal email but edu price. Sorry if this is obvious!

  • +1

May be relevant to some, you can get an alumni email address from your Uni. Has the .edu and works for almost all student deals.

  • Is anyone else having troubles signing up with an edu email address? Confirmation email isnt coming through, is there a trick to this?

  • +1

Buy or hold for Black Friday sale??

Looks expired just now - price showing as $1,970.53
