Earn up to $50 cashback promotional offer is available when a new Bankwest Easy Transaction Account is opened via https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/bank-and-save/lp/cashba… between 15 October 2024 and 6 December 2024 by 6:00pm AWST and the below conditions are met:

  1. Open your account - Open a new Easy Transaction Account online in minutes.

  2. Make your purchases - Make 10 settled and eligible purchases (5 in your first 30 days, and 5 in your second 30 days) using your linked Platinum Debit Mastercard®.

  3. Get your cashback - All done. You'll receive two $25 payments once you’ve made your eligible and settled purchases.

Limited time offer, not available to customers who currently hold or have held an existing Bankwest transaction account in the past 12 months. Cashback payments will be paid 30 days from the end of the qualifying 30-day period.

What are eligible purchases?
Eligible purchases are purchases made with your linked Bankwest Platinum Debit Mastercard but exclude:

  • cash withdrawals
  • cash-out transactions at any merchant
  • payments and transfers from the Account (for example, BPAY, Internal Transfers, Pay Anybody and Faster Payments)
  • direct debits
  • gaming, lottery or gambling transactions
  • purchases/transactions that are subsequently refunded to the account
  • fraudulent transactions.

What are settled purchases?
Settled purchases are transactions that have been finalised by the merchant and posted to your statement. ‘Authorisation Only’ transactions are not fully processed and are considered as pending transactions. The date the transaction settles may differ from the day the purchase/transaction was performed.

T&Cs -

  • Customers must not have held (either in your own name or jointly) any ‘Bankwest Transaction Account’ in the previous 12 month period from the date of account opening. In the case of joint accounts, all account owners must meet this condition to be considered eligible for the promotion.

  • To earn $25 cashback for each 30-day period commencing from the Account Open Date, for 2 consecutive periods, you need to make 5 ‘settled’ (fully processed and not pending) ‘eligible purchases’ for each 30-day period. For example, if the Account was opened on 24 October 2024, the following periods would apply: 24/10/24 – 22/11/24 and 23/11/24 – 22/12/24 in which the customer will need to make 5 settled purchases for each 30-day period. A maximum of $50 cashback is payable, i.e. $25 for each 30-day period.

The cashback payment will be credited to the Easy Transaction Account within 30 days from the end of the qualifying 30-day period, providing the Bankwest Easy Transaction Account is still open at the time of crediting.

You will be ineligible for any cashback payment if your account is closed or reopened, switched to another Bankwest Transaction or Savings Account or the account is considered not to be in ‘good standing’ at any time prior to the cashback being credited to your account.

    Looks ok.

    Not great, but not terrible.

  • you have typo in your link - "andsave"

    • -4

You started a sentence without a capital ”Y”

      • +5

You're missing a full stop at the end of your sentence.

  • What's the minimum age?

    • -7

      Why?

      • They may like to open for their underaged children.

@Gogetter2023, most banks in Australia allowed 14 and over to open on their own (can be vary by banks). Otherwise, need parents/ guardian open for them.

        • -3

So they can get an account regardless of age then.

    • … You can apply online if you're 16 years or over. If you're 11-15 years, you'll need to give us a call on 13 17 19

      • -7

        What if you’re 10?

        Is there a different number?

        • why are you getting negged this is genuinely just funny

          • @dongltron: There are a lot of unemployed, ex-bank tellers on OzBargain…

  • +4

Just be more careful with Bankwest. Refer to this comment.

If you're going for this deal, try making transactions at different places with varying amount.

    • +6

Hah, I was just going to post to this. Beware of Bankwest, they take a subjective view of their T&Cs.

I was using the card at cafes for coffee, Maccas as well as the afterpay transactions and when enquiring re: the promotion they said I was committing fraud (seriously!). Other people on australianfrequentflyer.com.au using the card for similar transactions did receive the promotion so it's very much a case of who you get answering your support tickets if you do lodge an enquiry.

Even though owned by Commbank, the Commbank Yello promotions are at least honoured.

      • +1

Hmm, reading the comments on there, I think some people were splitting their transactions e.g. buying two items at the same place at the same time but in two separate transactions.

I'm guessing that is what the bank claims as a 'fraudulent transaction'.

Anyway, sounds like there is an easy way around it - just go to a different shop for each item e.g. coffee at one cafe, croissant at the next cafe…

        • +2

Exactly what I did. I never bought two items at same place at same time, nor did I split transactions at the same shop or process 1c transactions.

Main problem is that Bankwest is bending the T&Cs to suit themselves rather than applying them equally to all participants.

          • @bdl: did you just do the minimum amount of transactions and that's it?
I mean, that's all you are required to do, if they want you do use it more, they should make the minimum transactions 30 or some bullshit heh

            • +5

@bohn: I think the minimum was 10 (?) and i did 12-15 just when I went to get daily coffees. Didn't use my HSBC 2% cashback for those purchases just to get the transaction count up.

Yeah, I agree, if they're trying to offset the cost of the promotion to themselves they should just set a hard limit of say, minimum 10 (or 30) transactions $5 or more - rather than just subjectively apply T&Cs.

Ended up cancelling all my accounts with them and won't sign up for any new promotions so I suppose they got what they want.

I don't mind if Ozbargainers want to take advantage of the promotion however just wanted to make sure people knew what they could possibly in for.

I never took advantage of the Qantas transaction account points loophole in the past, either.

              • +3

@bdl: You should have taken them to AFCA and made them pay it out ;)

                • @bohn: I wanted to, but was very unwell at the time so the last thing I needed was to deal with shitty bank customer service :)

              • @bdl: Thanks for the caution. I'm planning on doing this but never used them before.
Is there anything else I should be careful of? Like fees/charges/fine print?

I read that it's free to open, and there are no ongoing fees even with $0 balance.

                • +1

@ozilicious: The only thing was a pain for me was identity verification - needed to go to the post office to do the manual form because the electronic version didn't work.

      • how was the complaint

    • +1

Thanks. After reading your comment and bdl’s, I think $50 is not worth the time.

  • So, it is only for 2 months not ongoing.. that's how I read it

    • +1

      yes, correct.

    • if ongoing they will go bankrupt in 6 months

      • Lol true

        • Remember good old ING days?
Using HSBC currently cash back works with Google pay as well as I don't carry physical cards

          • @777: You should for Aldi if paying by HSBC

Have been told by Bankwest that I have been blacklisted and can’t get any of their products.

    • wow, how? when you went through the application process?

      • +3

When I completed the application process and didn’t hear back for a week about my account. Called up and ask what’s the hold up and they told me.

        • Not good customer service …
Unless if you were their customer in the past or other problem.

    • +4

Is it because of the Qantas transaction account from few years back? ;)

    "Bankwest Platinum Debit Mastercard"
What's good about getting "Platinum" debit since every customer can get this card? Just marketing, I think.

I don't mind with the 10 settled transactions within 2 months. Not bad for just one more bank account for differentiation. Recently I got $50 from Westpac within 18 days after my first small deposit. Not too bad, even though they got internet banking problems for few days, lol.

I have ING bank account that I have for a while, but I didn't get the bank bonus for new customer because of Ozb's expired referral link, they said lol. Instead I got $100 from "salary" deposit promotion recently (sent money in, then moved it after the bonus). Better than nothing.

I have St. George bank account also because of $50 bank bonus.

The recent Westpac problem should be a good reminder for everyone to have more than 1 bank account. At least several problems with other banks had happened in the past too. Keeping some cash is also good for backup or for discounted cash transactions in certain stores and restaurants.

    • Heritage Bank offers a bonus on new account as well.

      • +1

Yes, we can still register next month because everyone will receive it later …

always find complaints about the service of bankwest

  • Does Bankwest still have a maximum limit on PayID/Osko transfers of $1000 capped at $5000 per day? Meaning if you need to move $4k via PayID, you have to do 4x $1000 transfers?

I left them years ago when they refused to increase it (like ING, who have now finally increased it).

I was with them for many years but they got really frustrating to deal with in the end so I closed my account about 3-4 years ago, my main bank is now Macquarie and they're awesome.

    • Bankwest have a maximum limit on PayID/Osko transfers of $5000 capped at $5000 per day

      • Thanks, that's still pretty pathetic tbh. Not sure what CBA have but the likes of NAB, Macquarie, UBank and most likely others all have much higher limits.

  • hmm tempted.. just make sure dont make 5x in the same place.
does online purchases counts? or like buy something linked to paypal ?

  • need better interest rates for savings

Ppl forget the bank is a business and if they deem u the person as not profitable for them more than happy to cut u off. By blacklisting u they are making more profit.

    • When more people say something bad about the bank, that's not good for the bank. More people won't be customers that otherwise could be great customers and more profits.

Money sit idle in the bank? The bank can use people's money to give loan/credit to other people or invest etc.

More card transactions mean more profits for MasterCard from fee …

  • Signed up, installed the mobile app. I want to add the card to Google Wallet however unable to do so, anyone else?

Google Pay wants me to call the bank to verify, guess need to wait until Monday.

    • yep thats with all cards from bankwest. not optional you have to call them but weekends usually work as they are 24/7 they have to compensate with every branch being closed

    • Never had an issue here? Just adds to wallet and good to go

  • Tried to apply and not eligible, possibly because I had a bankwest credit card years ago?

  • at some point i was considering a bw cc https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12187435/redir

  • This doesn't seem to make it worth it, did everyone get this, or just me?

We've got your application. There's just one more thing we need to check before we can open your account.

    Verify your identity in person
So that we can finalise your application, you'll need to visit a participating Australia Post location to verify your identity in person in the next 14 days.

You'll need to attend with a completed Identity Verification form. Remember to include your application number XXXX and bring with you the required ID listed on the form.

    • +1

Not everyone. I guess you are special…

      • Ah I realise now, recently moved locations, so I suspect my address didn't line up neatly. Rookie mistake by me.

    • Yes, had it a few times in the past with Bankwest with transaction and credit card accounts.Their electronic ID verification never worked for me.

    • You're not alone

  • wants to verify ID in person.. why!!!!!!!

    • Because they know you will just grab that 50 and run…

Know Your Customer … What's stopping Scammers from using someone else's ID? Photo in ID doesn't match with real person?

      • This doesn't make sense, why would it do KYC for some, but not others?? Think about it

        • -1

Duh… they do kyc on everyone no exception… but some need to visit post office to get certified… some no need…but its still kyc…

  • Anyone know if the fx conversion they use is good on these for spending overseas?

    • They just follow Mastercard exchange rate, calculator can be found here.

  • Pretty easy signup process for me, everything went smoothly. Account set up and running, with money deposited from my Up account and digital Bankwest card added to Apple Wallet. Ready to make first transaction in less than 30 minutes from start of application.

    Easy $50 IMO! Thanks OP

    • wait, you've the $50 already?

or this this like one of those amazon orders '5/5 will review once again after I get the package'

      • Haha yeah guilty, 5/5 haven’t received the money yet, will update when I do! :P

Still need to make the 5 transactions in each period and actually have the $25 x 2 paid out by Bankwest, but the whole account set up process went without issue for me, whereas it sounds like some others had issues with having to verify their ID in person.

        • try doing just the bare minimum to see if they shaft you ;)

  • TIL $50 for new accounts is cheaper than running a branch network, apparently.
