  • Thx. 22kw not campable on models 3 and y.

    • Yeah but it’s worth to ask installer to do 10mm cable so you can ask to change the max current in the future.

At the moment, installer need to set max current to 16A for three-phase, and keep 32A for single phase.

      • +1

Would setting 16A for three-phase provide 11kw max?

        • Yes 16A for three phase provide 11kW

      • No jumpers to set in the Gen 3, it sets automatically.

        • Not physically, it’s a software configuration that only for installer (Tesla One app).

    • 12kw max for model 3 and Y 22kw for model S and X

    • +2

7kw is more than enough for home charging

      • +2

I use the mobile connector, 2.3kw, and it's more than enough for me personally since I charge overnight.

I just wish I could still have home charging when I move into an apartment.

I'm not going to neg the deal, but I ordered the Tesla wall charger from them nearly a month ago.
Emails and phone calls were never answered.
Their online chat person promised me 3 separate times that they were going to send me my tracking details .. this never eventuated.
Got sick of their lies and got my credit card company to do a chargeback.
Got a refund and bought the Tesla charger via ebay for $720 after discount and gift cards. The ebay seller delivered it the same day as I ordered it !
Check product review for other similar horror stories from other buyers.
P.S. I also bought this for my new MG4 :)

    • I'm looking for one for my MG4, we already have a 30amp breaker in the box for a now unused piece of equipment in the garage. How much was installation, and what was involved?

      • +1

The electrician that will be installing mine said that it's best to have a dedicated circuit for the wall charger.
We also have a 32amp breaker to our garage which is feeding the automatic door, lights, power points and a nearby shed.
The electrician will be diverting all of them to an existing 16amp circuit from the house and leave the 32amp to be solely used for the wall charger.
He is also changing the circuit breaker to an RCBO type for overload protection.
As for price, I haven't been quoted yet but I'm tipping it will be less than $500.

Get a third party if u have a non Tesla car those wall chargers are designed for teslas u will not benefit from all features of the charger

      • +2

Get the MG charger!! It supports OCPP which is basically a necessity if you want your solar panels/inverter/battery to talk to each other. E.g. having an inverter and charger with OCPP would allow you to only use excess solar to charge your car. This would save a lot of money in the long run. Even if you don't have panels now, you might decide to in the future and this will really limit you as it costs a bunch to reinstall a different one.

Good call Tesla are so far a head in the charging game. You won’t regret it.

    • +3

Yep. Exactly the same with me. Bought it from these guys in September. A month and a half later still nothing. Phone calls and emails are never responded to. Online chat is useless also. Have just done the chargeback on the credit card. Save yourselves the pain and order from somewhere else.

    • Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah I saw the one Ebay too. Currently $715 including shipping. I'll add it to the ad so people can do their research.

    • Actually, I'll remove the ad. Don't want to mislead people into a potential scam. Thanks again.

Good luck buying from this mob. Product review says they’re a sketchy bunch.

These aren't actually "chargers", they are simple AC safety switches.

The car has the actual charger inside.

Elon is making a killing for a couple of relays, diodes, CT and a couple of contactors.

    • +4

What cheaper one would you suggest?

      • +2

Basically any. But cheaper units will have cheaper relays. In fairness the relay in my OEM and the "Ali Express special" both died after around 3 yrs of use. But 4 relays were $10 on eBay.

For this money, I'd be looking at a smart type EVSE setup so it can follow your solar output.

        • Thanks. Will check them out.

        • +3

          “Any”. How specific

          • +3

@askbargain: The Tesla charger is actually one of the cheapest chargers from the reputable companies.

  • +6

If you want something a lot smarter the Victron for $670 is probably a better option.

I realise that you don't get a cable with it and need to buy your own. Many people buy one anyway to take advantage of the occasional free AC chargers that are still around.

Anyway: the Victron will kill the Zappy. Functionality is on par, and the price a lot cheaper.

    • Good timing! Plenty of people now have dead EVSE's to grab the cables / plug from.

    • +1

I have one. I paid about 1k. Its awesome, It also has 5 years warranty.

      • +1

And for all Victron products you can extend the warranty from 5 to 10 years for 10% extra. Just shows how much faith they have in their products.

I hope you installed the latest software, it supposedly is a much smoother experience now.

        • I have the latest software. I set the timmer for night 8cent charging at night and it's never missed a beat.
BTW how do you extend warranty?

          • +1

@harryzee: Wherever you got yours from should be able to help you. From what I read you have time until the last year of the 5 year warranty to get the extension.

            • @team teri: Cheers, I will check it out. I got it just over a year ago for $1100 and thought I was doing well, It's a steal at $670.

    • +1

      Interesting.

Looks like to get the same level of smarts (solar monitoring, etc) as a $2k Zappi, you also need one of the Victron GX series of devices - which adds to the cost of the Victron.

Interesting to see the feature set of the Victron, which seems to exclude OCPP - which is pretty much a must have.

    • -1

Is Victron Home Assistant compatible? I can't find any obvious integrations

      • Cheapest route is to run the venus os (cerbo gx) on a raspberry pi and use mqtt to connect to home assistant.

  • How “smart” is this when used with a non-Tesla? Does it work with HA?

    • +1

This one is not smart at all. The car controls everything.

Although word is they are getting OCPP support soon as some states are requiring it.

  • +1

Just bought this without reading the comments! 🥲

Hopefully no issues! 😭 Otherwise, will dispute it!

This store is run by Esquire Group. I think they have become insolvent as of last year.

It is possible that this business is still keeping it's website running and taking orders, but might not have any stock to sell. You might want to keep an eye on your order and if nothing moves within the next few business days I'd do a chargeback. But it's best to strike while the iron's hot and do a chargeback now rather than wait.

        For those interested…

I cancelled my order and initially they advised they have cancelled and sent a request to accounts for my refund. They said it would take over 10 business days and I have seen nothing.

They have ignored my messages now and I have raised a dispute with my bank.

        These people are scams!

        • Horrible!

Added a neg on the deal as this business clearly isn't in favour of any form of customer service.

  • I bought this charger from them last year and had no problems.

I use it on my MG4, set it in the tesla app to only charge midnight to 6am (8c kw). Single phase max 7.4kwh i believe.
