Bulova 98B407 'Devil Diver' GMT - Sapphire, Automatic, 200m $799 Delivered @ Starbuy

100

At first glance I was ready to dismiss this watch as overpriced, but on closer look it's actually got quite a lot of features packed in. Firstly, it's a GMT so good for tracking multiple time zones, next it has a fully lumed dial, hands, and bezel. The bezel itself is bi-directionally rotating with proper dive markings so combined with 200m of water resistance you could quite possibly take this one into the water. The crystal is one of the nicest-looking pieces of sapphire I've seen and the understated grey colouring would also lend itself well to suits of all types - business, dive, or birthday. Thickness is stated as 12mm on Starbuy's page but the reviewers below measured 14mm, so that's what I'll go with.

  • Case diameter 41mm so not the usual Bulova whopper. Nice.

  • I couldn't see any mention of the dial material, is it ceramic?

    • I doubt they would use ceramic and then just cover it in lume or do you mean the bezel?

The bezel looks like a highly polished acrylic or could be ceramic.

Edit: just did a Google. It's an acrylic bezel. Interestingly the lug width is 19mm which can be limiting in swapping options.

      • Where'd you see 19mm? In the Time & Tide review they measured it at 20mm, plus two online stores also specify the same.

        • Surprisingly, this is a 19mm strap.

It was the first hit I opened.

          • @MS Paint: Fair enough. Specs for this model seem inconsistent so it would be interesting if someone who’s got one could confirm.

            • @Chazzozz: I'm guessing it's 20mm. I think my link just got it wrong. It makes no sense to go 19mm in 2024. Having said that I recently purchased a watch with 19mm lug width.

  • Absolutely gorgeous. Would buy but not needed.
