While looking for a place to buy the recently released (November 2012) Sony NEX-5R mirrorless camera dual lens kit (16mm-50mm and 55mm-200mm) I noticed that it is currently available at JB HI-FI online for $933.30 with free delivery (black only). I don't know if/when the deal expires, but while the camera is in the current JB HI-FI catalog for $1,098, it's cheaper on the website. You may even be able to do better by taking the online price to a store and bargaining.
For those that don't know, the NEX-5R is a 16.1MP mirrorless camera system with interchangeable lenses (E mount). It has a 3" touch screen, does full HD video, wi-fi and uses a reasonably large APS-C sensor giving good image quality. Basically it's approaching DSLR level image quality while trading some flexibility/features for lower size/weight. This model falls between the NEX-F3 and NEX-6 in the lineup.
It's certainly not cheap for what it is, but it suits those who want good image quality without the bulk of a DSLR (Note: there are passionate views for and against this category of camera as compared to DSLRs, so you'll have to make your own mind up about your own needs).
RRP for the dual lens kit is $1,299 and I haven't seen another price for Australian stock that is below $1,000. Even the grey market imports seem to be around (or above) $933.30.
I have the NEX-5N with a number of E Mount lenses and it's an excellent camera (previous model) - great price for the local kit.
