      For $30 more p/m

      • But cheaper minimum cost with JB isn't it?

        • Cheaper min cost with JB but you do have to then get a mobile plan.

1656-899 is 757, 757/24 is 32$ extra across the life of the plan.

I'm on a $35 plan so cheaper for me to get the 24m deal, not to mention better for current cash flow.

          • @NotSuchABigMac: I mean if you want new phone/plan then maybe but then its back Optus network.

  • +22

HN has closed the loop for cancellation, not worth it anymore

    • Have they really? I signed up to the launch deal that had the same 4 month stipulation but the cancellation fee was always 50% of the remaining term. I also confirmed this over live chat with Optus but have not yet gone through the cancellation.

    • +3

how is it not worth it? looks like total cost is $1656 over 24 months. If you want to buy the phone now, its more. Its still a good deal.

      • +4

It's $899 for the phone at JB. 2 years of phone plan is not worth $757.

        • $1697 at JB, how do you get it for $899. This is still a decent deal. I got the same deal last year for the Pixel 8 Pro, ended up keeping the plan and getting them to knock 50% off for 12 months

          • +1

@chromium: Read the description of the JB deal, it's also been explained in the comments multiple times.

            • @pennypincher98: I just saw the actual deal. Some cancellation thing. I don't read ALL the comments lol

I'm pretty happy with the Optus plan, I don't need the 100 GB but it's nice to not have to worry about while streaming FLACs all day on the days I got to work. It's nice and fast too, in some areas I've got 3000 Mbps on speed tests. I won't be paying $69 for a plan once the 24 months is up, but I may take it up again if they do they same deal next year when the Pixel 10 comes out. The other thing is, I want Optus Sport and it only costs me $10/month with the plan, it'd be $25 otherwise.

Zero interest in International calling either

          • @chromium: @chromium any tips on how you convinced Optus to give 50% off the plan for 12 months? Think I only managed to get 10%. Just gotta politely escalate the issue?

        • -1

whats 100gb for 2 years worth?

          • +2

@Variableaperture: Most people don't need 100GB per month.
Especially not without international calling, (unless it's changed recently) no access to cheaper roaming rates and a 128GB phone.

They just think they do, and are conditioned to use more data because they have got it - playing right into the telcos hands.

If you're one of the few that fit this exact criteria it might be worth it.

            • @pennypincher98: my work internet is garbage, bandwidth taken up by 50 tvs and hotspotting games downloading at gigabit speed is a dream

    • I can't see where HN has closed the loop for cancellation. Can't you still cancel after 4 months and walk away by paying ($69 X 4) + $690 = $966? Still a significant saving.

      • yup

  • What's the cancellation fee?

  • Do we get the $350 gift card with the purchase as well?

    • +2

Pro tip: click the link the OP provided

    • nope

    • -1

No. GC is only for 256GB. However, simply get $128GB in this deal. Don’t open it, and next day return it, buy 256GB pay the difference and get $350 GC as well.

      • +2

cant do that lol we can see if a optus pixel phone is returned

        • -4

Not sure why can’t it be returned.

A lot of OZBs did that without any issues for 9 Pro XL and S24 Ultra deals for JB/Telstra deals.

The way it works is that phone does cost the retail price to you, but you get a GC for signing up for the plan, which is used to pay for the phone.
Once you return the phone, you get the price of the phone back in form of a GC, either keep the plan or cancel it and pay the mentioned early termination fee.

          • @OZBsince2018: at HN you sign up for a plan and you get the phone on a discounted outright sale, if attempted to be returned we can see that thats what was agreed upon.

            • @HardlyNormal: Last time, I didn’t receive a GST invoice when I got a Samsung Flip on the $69 plan. Also, they said that I can’t exchange it.

            • -7

@HardlyNormal: And under ACL, you have no right to refuse the item to be returned, regardless of the reason or intent. Just because you don't like it, doesn't outweigh what is legal against what is attempting to get the best value possible. That IS what this site is specifically designated to, so people are going to come up with all kinds of radical ideas. You yourself shouldn't even be getting involved unless it's to provide factually accurate information for those who require it. I might just grab my Pixel from HN today instead, so that I can return it tomorrow and show you my receipt)

              • @parad0x: everyone please downvote this numpty

              • @parad0x: What makes you think ACL gives you the right to return for change of mind?

    • Don't forget the free house and car !

  • -8

Not sure about reliability of Pixels battery.

  • Does anyone have a link to the terms and conditions regarding cancellation? I can't find it somehow…

      • Hi @Hardly Normal, can you confirm that the cancellation fee is (4 x $69) + $690? Also do we get the $350 gift card as well?

        • Thats the cancellation fee, $350 GC only for outright

          • @HardlyNormal: Oh I see. Wait would the cancellation fee be (4 * $69) + $690 = $966, or is it $34.5 * 24 = $828?

            • @Mani88: $966, cancelling within 120 days will incur an additional $500 penalty

              • @HardlyNormal: oh lol, nvr mind then. Would basically be $1466 if you cancel straight away. I don't see how this is a good deal if you don't want the plan.

                • +2

@Mani88: Yeah, I think thats the point

                • +2

@Mani88: I think the point of the deal is to keep the plan lol In which case it's fairly decent as you're paying less than RRP for the phone spread out over 24 months and getting a decent phone plan for that time.

                • @Mani88: If not for the plan these will never be a good deal right?

                  • @AshleyLiang: Nope don't think so. The JB deal is much better imo.

      • Invoice gst amount there or zero?

        • $0

        • but can claim phone bill 🤷‍♂️

  • -4

Wonder if you can pay extra to upgrade to Iphone 16 and use the $350 GC

    • $350 GC with outright purchase only, Can’t swap pixel for other product.

      • +2

Any offer on the 256gb? 128 in 2024 is a rough time.

  • If you are already on a plan directly with Optus, can you get this deal?

    • Same question but pre-paid with Optus?

      • you will probably have to port out to a $5 sim first

        • ^

          • @HardlyNormal: @HardlyNormal - how about a company powered by the Optus mobile network i.e. amaysim or circles.life, assuming that would work then as its a different company right?

            • @papskies: yes, only optus postpaid numbers arent eligible

    • No, unless you want a new number.

  • -1

Incredible deal. Getting a 2 year plan pretty much for free

    • +2

If you're paying RRP for the phone, and $69/month for an Optus plan with no international calling then Ozbargain has failed you.

Look at what is included for $69/month on the Optus website, or what phone plans cost elsewhere before you call it "free".

These are #1 and #2 companies for me to avoid personally lol, they stuffed me around so much last time.

      • +1

        $1699 RRP phone for free on a $1656 2y plan 🤷‍♂️
yeah the optus choice $62 has better inclusions but no free phone

        • +5

But you don't need to pay $62/month for a SIM lol. I get it's your job to deceive market to people - used to be mine too.

      • +2

Who still rings overseas? Far easier with messenger, whatsapp, skype what not.
It's not like international roaming is cheap nowadays with anyone.

        • Vodafone $5/day (unlimited)?
          Optus $5/day (5GB+talk/text)?

          These are not expensive lol.

          • @pennypincher98: Well it is if its over a month or two euro-trip etc.

            • @Bimbobob: You don't need to use it every day, but even if you do you can guarantee without these rates instead of $150 you'd be looking at $800+.

Ringing grandparents overseas is incredibly common, who may not use Skype etc.

Used to work in telco and people would come in for the plan just for the roaming savings.

Of course, you're forgoing this by going on second rate plans like this (also Vodafone/Apple plans same deal) that are also more expensive.

      Username checks out

    • +1

      But why?

  • not a good deal compare to jb $99 Telstra deal

    • +1

not worth it to cancel if you’re paying more than $35/m

      • +1

        What do you mean?

        • +3

          sorry, $31.5/m
          HN plan = $1656 - JB cancel cost $800 + 1st month ($99)
          $757 difference/24 = $31.5
          thats the difference

  • Is worth it to upgrade from pixel pro 8?

I wonder if you can pay extra for the xl.

  • +1

Are they doing a deal for the 256gb version? 128gb is too small these days.

    • +2

      pay the difference

      • Happy to do that if its an option.

      • @HardlyNormal: Can we pay the difference to swap for the Pro XL?

        • nope, you missed the pro xl deal we had when that phone came out.

  • Got my XL today. Don’t mind the size

  • That's hardly normal!

  • Can be current Optus customer?

    • +1

number must not be on optus postpaid to qualify for port.

  • +1

Is this available for the XL models too? Or can you only pay the difference for more storage on the non XL models?

    • nope, you missed the pro xl deal we had when that phone came out

  • Can you return the phone after signing up?

  • just started a 10% GC promo this weekend, includes P9P deal!
customer will receive an additional $169.7 GC with this deal.

    • You mean for buying it outright, not on plan (this deal)?

      • +2

both, extra $169 GC with $69 plan

        • Just to confirm, you now get $350 GC + $169 GC if people signed up for the $69 / 24 months plan?
