[PC, Steam] FTL: Faster Than Light $3.62 @ Steam

1340

FTL is now available in 9 languages! English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Simplified Mandarin!

The free expansion, FTL: Advanced Edition, is available now! Content additions include: new alien race, events, weapons, playable ships, drones, and more! Also adds additional musical tracks by Ben Prunty, and events by Tom Jubert and guest writer Chris Avellone.

If you already own FTL it should update the new content automatically. Advanced Edition is included free for anyone who purchases the game from this point forward.

In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

The game was an Epic freebie in 2019.

Apparently I have this already? Lol

Perfect game imo. Worth even full price.

  • +1

    Very good game.

  • Is it easy?

    • +5

      Not really

    • +3

It's hard even on easy. That's part of the fun.

    • +8

It’s easy to play. It’s not easy to win.

There’s an easy mode. It isn’t easy.

      • Same. I've played this nearly 10 years ago. I could never get that far.
I wouldn't call this an easy game. It's definitely harder than Binding of Issac.

    • Contrary to the other posters, I find easy is actually quite okay. Excluding any stupid decisions (or deliberately choosing a dysfunctional ship), I can win most games on easy and I'm pretty rubbish at games. Normal is quite challenging for me.

    • Final boss presents some challenges when I play, kills me much of the time

  • I feel old. At what stage would this game be considered retro?

    • 30 years

    • +1

I mean it was pretty retro aesthetics when it came out.

One of my favourite games of all time still along with Into the Breach from same devs.

      • It was like a mini renaissance when FTL came out, quite a few noteworthy titles. I could never get into Breach for some reason though, it reminds me too much of Super Robot Wars and all the SRPGs back in the day.

  • +4

One of my favourite games of time. Its mechanics are very well designed and it was one of the main games that popularised rogue like genre. It's still one of the best of its kind.

  • +5

100% this game. I still wish for FTL 2

  • Is there a mobile version of this?

    • Need tablet (or Apple vision, lol)

    • +1

Only ipads I'm afraid. Or you could use winlator to get it on android if you have a drm free version (ie humble).

  • +5

10+ years on I'm still slowing working through getting all the achievements in this. Great game.

It can be a little tricky for new players, but the systems are easy to understand. Once you get the basics and start to learn the events and what to prepare for at the end, you'll start to get a few wins under your belt.

For long time players the balance is almost perfect. Playing Hard Mode in the Advanced Edition can be very punishing, but when you eke out every advantage and come away with the victory in the end it's very rewarding, even 10 years on :)

I highly recommend installing a variety of mods (some are standalone overhauls, too). Multiverse is my personal favourite, adding music, weapons, races, ships, quests and also allows you to heavily customise a ship’s modules.

Challenging and true to the core game!

I cheated to get maximum money and I still lost in this game wth

  • was this ever on the c64…looks familiar…

    • You're probably thinking of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_(video_game)

  • Looks like it's back to full price

  • +1

Highly recommend everyone check out the Multiverse mod. It adds so much content to the base game. Super easy to install now, compared to years ago.

  • That's weird, has a Steam sale ever ended early?
